Why don't you just host?

ADSL

I have ADSL (6m down, 512k up) and I can host lag-free games.

Are you sure? I asked my friends and they told me that lags was noticeable. Ping is important too and maybe more important than connection speed. I live in a sparsely populated area and I often have games with players on other side of Earth.

I do.

I don't see the problem then.

Try hosting an U/U/G match on a non-operation weekend and watch how long it takes for people to join.

Playing with people in the same "Internet continent" = generally no lag.

Playing with people across transatlantic cable or satelitte = some lag.

Sorry a game made for millions of people disrupting your style of living, wouldn't mind BW fixing the search settings and possibly add a map exclusion list.

Other than that, deal with it. It's like that crazy boss at work, be mute, deaf, and blind and you'll be fine.

Yeah what he said thats what  I do.  Start the match alone and usually people join and alot of the time if they see that you are doing well on the scorebaord they will stay.  Its not foolproof but I have met some decent players that way and some stick around after that 1st match and keep playing.  It also improves your game by having to solo Gold.   I have had games where no one joins but I still can get to wave 6 before I need use consumables alot of the time which is just like playing silver.

I live in the Highlands of Scotland, my connection as of right now at 06:47 is:

Image IPB

I haven't played off host in weeks, it takes me on average less than 5 minutes to fill up my matches, I've never had complaints of bad lag and randoms regularly play more than one match in a row with me so I assume that my connection is fine and playable for them. Even 2 days ago I added two Americans to my friends list after they played about half a dozen matches with me.

Really I always wonder where people live if they can't fill up matches.

Not to knock you but waiting 5 min JUST to fill up a match is ridiculous. It's bad enough that I have to wait nearly 3 min just for the game to boot, check with EA servers, get to MP screen, check with EA servers, rinse & repeat.

I'm starting to think the reason we see FBW and the other farming maps popup so often is because they are pretty much the only well designed maps that can be easily defended. I believe military strategy is to always fight with your back up against the wall so you cannot be flanked. most of those other maps you can get gangbanged in Gold+ with ease.

i know in Halo, etc we always enjoyed well designed maps that we could easily fight with our backs up against the wall. In this game it is almost like the map designers were paranoid bout giving us well defend positions and real cover w/o peppering it with 100 obstacles (looking at you firebase london)

You sound retarded mentioning that in a forum dedicated to a game's MP element. You sound doubly stupid saying that when I never once exaggerated the extent of this issue in my life. You act like i can't expect more from a game in 2012 than i would have in 2000.

Not everyone is a child with no work, school or kids and has 5-10 min to host a game and 30-40 min to play straight through a single set at all times

Feel free to leave the thread if the title doesn't apply to you.

FBW isn't any more 'well made' than any other map. It's just the easiest with the Geth due to the layout allowing for easy melee kills.

Most of the other maps are easy on Gold, some people just like to farm like they're WoW chinese gold farmers. I don't think playing the same map with the same race over and over and over and over and over and over and over is fun. It's work.

I should point out people farm FBW on plat as well. Whether it be Cerebus tossing grenades or Banshees or Geth it makes no diff. They can all be slain under 25 mins. I know when I farm Rio or FBw or whatever with my friends we care not the enemy type. They are all pretty easy with a good group

* This is in response to your suggestion to give Geth the ability to toss grenades. Not trying to be rude but what would that change? People do farm FBW with Cerebus all the time too. We just sit there and tank the grenades no big deal yo

/facepalm

Now think about those players that are looking for YOUR lobby.

To the OP: what did solve the issue for me was to set enemy type to Cerberus (or Reapers). I never encountered a FBWGG farming game that way. However, be prepared to be put more often into lobbies with the selected enemy type. But as Geth do not get the love they want....

You said 5 minutes to fill up a match is "ridiculous". That is the very definition of first world problems and I really don't see how you consider that to not be exaggerating. You also just said I act like you can't expect more from a game in 2012 that you would have in 2000, which really makes me wonder what games you were playing in 2000 that could fill up a match in 5 minutes, or heck even what console you were playing on in 2000 that had online play.

Something tells me you're not as old as you make out if you can't remember what gaming was like 12 years ago, and if you consider 5 minutes to be ridiculous. Also if you're taking 30-40 minutes to complete a match you really should look up speedruns, 25 minutes is about an average match length and that's just for the notoriously ineffective FBW strategy.

Granted when I search U/U/G I usually dont get farming matches. But if for some reason that fails then simply select the desired map. It is not that difficult if you do not want to host or have friends to play with. I fail to see how FBW is ruining your game

It takes 10 minutes of searching 'random' to finally find someone who isn't playing FBW. Instead of more weapons, characters or maps, the next thing that needs to be improved is the search function.

Either the Geth need to get grenades or ME3 MP needs improved search functions. This was the same issue with Dead Space 2's MP. No lists. Give me a list that shows me the map and the latency. This is 2012, why is this so hard to understand?

*edit*
I'm talking about setting the maps to random, not random players

And i don't host b/c it takes longer to get a full game going than it does to surf around for 15 aggrivating minutes to find a near full game.

What platform are you playing on? I see this complain a lot, and it's just puzzling - on pc, the FBW is never a problem for me. Yes, it comes up in gold lobbies more than any other map, but not so often that it's aggravating. If i'm not in the mood for farming, i just leave the lobby and generally find another one set to uug or whatever right away. *shrug* Hosting is always an option too.

ETA: I even saw a lobby set to Condor/Geth/Gold the other day. I left, and god have mercy on their souls.

It is ridiculous by 2012 standards. You must be playing on a console or something.

What game in 2000 could fill up a server in less than 1 min? 2 that immediately come to mind are CS and Half-Life DM. Yes, in 2000 they had better search functions than a 2012 EA game.

If all some of you feel like doing is handwaving off my point by herp derp le 1st werld pr0bleMz derp, then why even bother coming into the thread? In fact, why own the game from this year? Why have a console/pc for timely entertainment? I'm not going overboard with my explanation like, say, the ME3 SP forum. This has no real relevance in my life and you wont see me cry over it or an hero. I just would like better search options. It would definitely increase my enjoyment and would allow me to experience more than 1 map. This game has a lot of great maps and I like to play them all against all enemies. If i wanted monotony I would just hop in bed with my wify :P

Playing on PC. Maybe it was Operation Alloy that had people trying to farm for XP.

I had a valid point that it's frustrating to find a non-FBW game and that additional search options needed to be added, yet i'm starting to get bombarded with variations of 'U mad bro?!'.

I think everyone thats arguing against me are simply the same chinese credit farmers i want to stay away from.

Well, what do you expect acting like a spoilt 12 year old? I play on the same platform as you. I play a lot and have no problems filling up lobbies or finding non FBWGG games. Ass opposed to you I excercise some patience but it rarely takes me more than 5 minutes to find a game.

Try making a larger friends list and that should help.

With the current buggy matchmaking system, chances are you'll be thrown into FB:White anyway even if you could exclude it from search.

well... you really have to build a solid friends list to avoid the FBW cycle... otherwise it will always be FBW...
