So, for example, Liara or Ashley don't count, as they are in the squad in ME3.
For me EASILY Samara. What a powerful character. Such great stories could have
been told! Pity.

Well, for me it's a full set of characters:
Grunt
His role in ME3 is more or less a cameo. You can't even use him as temporary squadmate in that mission and he doesn't join your crew after you did the job.
Samara
For those who wanted her to be a LI, ME3 was disappointing in every possible way.
Zaeed & Kasumi
Seriously: that's it?
Jack
I never cared for Jack that much, but her new role in ME3 was interesting and I'd have loved to see more of her.
Jacob
Without words
Miranda
I want her back!
Ashley (also Kaidan)
That's why she counts. She's in your squad, true. After she got removed for the first half of the game. And as soon as she's back, she feels like a DLC character, like an extra. An extra you can use in your squad. But if you never romanced her and don't intend to do so, she has nothing to give. The "best friend vibe" she had with fem!Shep in ME1 is gone and for male!Shep she's working best as romance. If you don't romance her, there's no need to recruit Ash after the coup.
And yeah, that comes from a die-hard Ashley fan.
Tali
Returns too late to the Normandy ...
Thane
Cameo role and no way to save his ass. I like that Drell and -really- want to have at least a chance to save him, even if he can't return to the Normandy.
Liara, Garrus, Mordin and the new guys had quite decent roles.

I would have loved to see more of Samara cause... Justicar!
Miranda because she was such a powerful character in ME2 and at the center of the story.
Also, Kirrahe ;P
EDIT> as for Ash, not an expert cause well... Kaidan.

Grunt I got so excited after his mission, I thought I had my Krogan back, he would have ate Vega too.
Jack, I miss her smart-mouth and I would have loved to have seen more of the psychotic biotic.
Kasumi, I miss the resident gossip on my ship.

#1 Miranda
Clearly the most potential wasted. She is introduced as a major character, especially great material for the Cerberus arc and is then suddenly completely reduced to her subplot. I mean, we are already fighting Cerberus 50% of the game... why wasn't she on Cronos?
#2 Jack
One of the most interesting characters, but it seems like she was too badass for the boring ME3 squad.
#3 Grunt
I just love that guy personally and would have wanted to see him back in the squad. Maybe he has the same problem as Jack, though.

What they did to Jacob was pretty rotten though. Would rather have Jacob forgotten than having his character's morality being maimed like that.

I will never forgive Bioware for what they did with this character.
So few content, and a ridiculous role .. this is absurd.

precisely.
even though Miranda is always top choice, I feel sad for all ME2 characters.

One short conversation (and if romanced, a very ooc one for both Shep and Thane) and then cue unavoidable cereal killer.
*Deep Sigh* *Flips every table in sight*
What about a plot with hanar/drell? And what has Kolyat been up to? So many questions and no answers...
Jacob.
Where do you start with Jacob? His role as a friend is ok, he might sound a bit condescending, but that's a breeze in comparison to what happens when romanced, which is abysmal.
Yes, us Jacobmancers aren't numerous but still, was that really necessary?
Miranda.
Ok, I get it, Oriana's safety is important. But uhm...what happened to your ties with Cerberus?
Aren't you an awesome, highly intelligent, Operative...What? Oriana? Nvm.
(In a game with Cerberus being one of your biggest enemies, this was just...weird)
Jack.
Like all ME2 squaddies (sans Team dextro and Mordin) the quantity of her content lacked.
Ok, her character isn't "maimed" in the sense like Jacob/Thane, but c'mon, her romance...
And from what I gather, much focus on the physical aspect of the relationship.
Samara.
Much like Jacob/Jack her content as a friend of Shepard is "ok". Short? Yes. But what is present? Ok.
But what about that elephant in the room known as potential LI?
The elephant it's still there, and sure hasn't moved an inch.
Morinth.
Random banshee? Come on...that wasn't just a cut corner, that was an entire page ripped out.
Zaeed & Kasumi.
Yes DLC characters but still...cameos *sigh*...
Legion.
The "Geth heretics + Reaper code to ascend = Bad" mindset in ME2 went...backwards in ME3.
Suddenly it's "Geth + Reaper code = Good". Er...wait, wut?
Grunt.
Goddammit...I wouldn't mind having that Krogan back...Miss him
[Edit] Sheesh...formatting went to darkspace...

Seriously though, i think shepard was the most backstabbed of all characters, as he/she loses those characters from ME2 as if they were nothing + the fact that you dont really really get that epic dreamy ending.

Jacob - I never romanced him (hated how predatory my femshep was around him) but gutted for those that did - horrible way for that relationship to end up. Unromanced? Sure, end up with Brynn, but if he romanced Shepard then there should have been a different outcome!
And all the ME2 supporting cast roles - cameos all round! I would love more interaction with each of them - Thane's death had me in tears, but the rest of the crew couldn't care less - that hurt! If he has to die at least show that it has an impact on some of them.
Agree on the Kaidan/Ashley roles once on the Normandy gave you barely that much insight into beloved characters, I can't imagine how newcomers to the series would view them.

And nice job on leaving this potential LI in the dust
Zaeed - He was a former leader of the Blue Suns and generic Cerberus Troop No. 531 gets more screen time then him
Emily Wong - Killed by Twitter i didn't even here about this in till i came here as i don't have Twitter...
Jacob - I sort of liked him and you make the people who romanced him suffer that way!
Kal'Reegar - The most badass Quarian is killed by email..
Morinth - Turns into named banshee....

1. Illusive man! No, seriously. From back-scene schemer, practically invisible "puppeteer", capable to give us something like "Unusual suspects", instead ending up like this - cartoon villain? Come on!
2. Kelly. Really, one and only character who could help Shepard to deal with "blue baby syndrom" (okay, she may not been able to deal with her own issues) and she was taken away and replaced with that chess player... I understand, good psychologist could totally remove whole Me3 plot by her own presence, but it doesn't excuse beaware in any way.
3. In my signature.
And I guess I agree on all other characters - they all felt like plugs, placeholders and added for show. Many characters felt being thrown overboard, undergone unnecessary plastic surgery (cough, Ashley, cough), resemble "empty husk of former self" (ditto), have little to no content (ditto, most ME2 characters), or have more (can't say "a lot" since it's still too little) of content, but their content felt detached and impersonal. And "more" doesn't mean it's good (Liara). Against this background Team Dextro definitely look better, but being best among horrible doesn't mean much.
TL;DR another sample of slipshot job. Boo.

This. Besides, eaving Miranda out of Cronos is something like Mordin out of the genophage cure or Legion out of Rannoch. She needs a closure with her past with Cerberus. She spent more than half of her life (20 years) in the organization but didn't have a single word about Cerberus new directions.
I would also have to say how horrible done was Jacob.
I liked the path they took with Jack, but it only works is the player used the paragon way with her. I still remember a renegade Shepard telling her that she was a killer and shouldn't think otherwise (instead a teacher she should have been a freelance like Han Solo).
With Thane you don't have many options. he's not the same from ME2 if you romanced him (he was afraid of dying). And after the coup he's never mentioned again. Not giving him a chance to live, when there were lots of cures being investigated, nto to mention some lazarus tech to help him... bioware, you droppedthe ball with him.
Ashley. The main difference betwen her and a NPCis that you can take her to missions. She's like a furniture on the Normandy.
And the romances for the ME2 characters were also screwed. None of them get an exclusive scene for the romance (no romance scene), neither a pillow talk. And the way they were horrible sidelined in the EC too (we give the romances drom the squad two emotive and welldone scenes, but if you romances Miranda/Jack you'll still have the poor ****ty holovid goodbye and a 1 sec slide. They didn't even care for contacting their VA for the EC).
ME3 is a disappointment for the characters from ME2, the only character who got a fair treat were Mordin and Legion, the rest was screwed one way or the other.

You interact with Jack a grand total of --------------------------------------------- 3 times. The exact same amount of time as Thane and Jacob.
Jack getting pushed out of this game is the biggest injustice since the "no touching" rule a strip clubs.
