As far as the ME franchise is concerned, I think the change took place with ME2, not ME3. The shift from ME1 to ME2 was a shift from shooter/rpg hybrid to linear shooter with a few rpg elements and dialogue trees. ME2 was very well received critically and sold well, so it makes sense that they would continue even further in this direction with ME3. It seems a lot of fans who grew up on Bioware do not like this shift, and are justified. Bioware seems to no longer be making the types of games that they are interested in. On the other hand, this shift has attracted a lot of gamers who otherwise would not have given Bioware any attention. I know a lot of people who got into Mass Effect/Bioware with ME2. I like RPGs, and I can go ahead look to other developers like Bethesda and Obsidian to get my RPG fix. I also enjoy a good third-person-shooter, so I can look forward to any ME2/ME3 style games that Bioware will release in the future. For better or for worse, the days of BG/DA:O type RPGS from Bioware are probably behind us.

You're right, they'll lock it. Although that doesn't mean what I wrote isn't true.

So long as you and we talk about the specifics of Mass Effect 3's story and how it relates to your ideal RPG story, I don't see why it would be locked. The truth or falsity of a thread isn't relevant compared to whether or not this is felt to be the correct forum for it.

Here's one thing to consider: ME2 and 3 had comparable development cycles. So it seems that perhaps you would have to conclude that it was mismanagement of time/priorities by the devs instead of pressure from the publisher.

For some reason, I thought of Bender when I saw this thread.

Same thing more or less happened to Pandemic's core projects before they were overwhelmed and absorbed by the Zerg-like creep EA emits.

RPGs need planification, a good story, great investment, and real consequences after your choices. All this things revolve around one essential element: time.

Good story is subjective. Besides the ending I thought ME3 had a great story. Not sure what you mean by great investment, but this game absolutely had real consequences for your choices.

Am sory but what choices mattered? Vimaire no, Rachni no, Save Quarian or Geth or both no, which pretty light show would you like yes. (pre EC DLC)

It was only fan rage that made them bring out the EC DLC, which does impove the endings as much as air freshener inproves a bad smell, but you can't claim that choice matters in ME anymore.

Dont get me wrong I liked a lot of the game, but am not blind to its failings.

Can you guys still remember the glorious stories/RPG's Bioware used to make?
Star Wars: Kotor, no need to tell you about that game's quality :)
Then:
The incredible colours and beautiful artstyle from Jade Empire, with a fantastic story to immerse in and when you're at the end, the most well thought-out plot twist greets you.
The first Mass Effect. No need to continue on that. It was the best.
The overall epic Dragon Age: Origins, wich is fundamentally complete in terms of RPG's.

Jade Empire had KOTOR had the best twists I've experienced in video games.

EA were thinking of charging people for extra ammo in Battlefield 3. They are making people rent out servers so they don't have to take up the costs (slowly phasing in Rented servers and slowly phasing out free servers). Origin monitors your activity to sell information to 3rd party advertisers. Whatever your opinion of ME3 or BioWare, you have to at least acknowledge that EA are in it for money over customer satisfaction.

never stated i did. im just saying instead of blaming just ea why not blame the industry as a whole?

heck i think activision and capcom are the 2 worst publishers when it comes to pricing dlc.

i mean shoot man 20 bucks for extra costumes and like 3 or 5 charachters for street fighter x tekken?

15 bucks a pop for map backs for cod from activision?

i think ea has been fair when it comes to prices regarding mass effect dlc

I disagree, besides a couple stupid things (Rachni, the ending) ME3 was an awesome experience, the ending was even pretty epic however bad.

I despise Origin. I went through hell just trying to synch my Bioware profile with my EA account just to register ME3. I had to create an entirely new one.

Most of that is true, however the charging people for ammo thing was taken out of context: The EA dude in that audio is giving an example of price sensitivity: he says charging people for ammo when they're 6 hours into playing BF3 wouldn't make them money. As far as I know they were never actually considering it (not because it would be immoral - which they obviously don't care about - but because they'd lose more money than they'd make)

The concern for me was that it was even entering their thought processes.

Oh, yes, I remember. Some people just randomly started posting Spiderman gifs and you got banned? I'm honestly just tired of seeing these types of threads, since there's dozens of them and usually devolve into precisely what you've mentioned.

EA is all about the money there's no doubt. But if such a bend-over-and-take-it strategy ever succeeded, the players would be more to blame than EA.

No they aren't. If me3 flopped, then it might be a possibility, but it did the opposite.

I think I understand quite well how things work in the gaming industry, in fact I think I can express myself more freely about the situation of the gaming industry than many people who work there because unlike them I won't have to confront any negative repercussions if what I say is an uncomfortable truth.

Speaking off topic, but I'm really glad I got the console versions of the ME games. I will never install origin on my computer.
