Never bought game guides, but this game is so promising and I am already such a huge fan of all things DA, I think - will it be worth the money? Just out of the principle I hate to throw moniez away, so... Any thought on this? Don't want to buy this book just for [x] sign.

p.s. I know, it's not really a smart question or smthn, just rumble.

The book will likely contain little notes on where secret treasure chests (or socks under mattresses, same principle) are, and ought to (in my opinion) contain detailed notes on how to deal with your companions. Both of which are extremely useful.

However, there's something to be said for finding it out y'self.

There's also the forums. We'll likely have most of the information from the game guide posted here or in the original Dragon Age forums.

The last game guide I ever bought was the Diablo II one, which would've been over a decade or so ago. Never really been a fan of them, however Dragon Age has broken that trend... and since the hardback of the guide is 30% off on Amazon atm I couldn't resist.

Probably won't be using it much for my first couple of playthroughs, after that though I'll be studying it for things I missed and then going back and trying them out. Want to experience as much of the game as possible :P

Never bought a game guide, flicked through a few and they seem to be mostly filled with generic knowledge that can easily be picked up on a first playthrough, and nothing I couldn't find online under a week after release. I have enough patience to wait to either discover things myself or search some forums, so I'm saving my money. For beer.

Game guides are only useful if you don't have a connection to the internet or if you're playing a console game.

With all the extras that come in the DA:O CE game guide... I couldn't pass it up.

I find that quite a few guides are pretty good (with maps, stats of enemies, equipment prices etc), but in some cases the guides are a bit useless after the first patch or two (when the patch changes stats or costs etc).

But in Dragon Age's case I say go for it.

Are you insinuating beer is evil?!

For shame!

Ahghhh. And thinkin' continues. I will have money in account in about four hours... it's still time to decide.

ABout that dark side - I'm 100% rogue - I drink. ;)

Beer is always the safest option.

The best being both.

This is my biggest concern also: the guide will be written for the 'original' game however a lot of DLC is expected which will thus not be covered by the guide.

Instead of the guide I'm going for the forum and wiki :)

I've never really been a fan of this kind of guides, especially now that online material is just a click away, so to say. It's really becoming more of a collectible object.

I usually find guides ruin the experience for me. But that's just me.

It's like the pope always says; "The only good beer is an imported_beer."

Considering that the user contributed Dragon Age Wiki going to contain every little grubby secret, than I would say that a strategy guide is a moot investment.

A game guide would destroy the gaming experience for me. I would be too tempted to read through things I shouldn't, and thus spoiling the story. No I'm not a fan of game guides.

And as others have said, all the info will eventually be available on the net anyways...

Waaay back when the Baldur's Gate games came out I had the guides but never really used them. While they showed me one or two awesome quest lines it was ultimately more fun to discover new elements by myself on a later run through the games.

If you want to do most possible content for one play of the game then you should get one as a checklist. Then again, constantly flicking through pages to ensure you don't miss a moment detracts from the games overall appeal.

In the end it's really about what your motivation for getting the guide is.

If it's a collector piece and something that will entertain you while you are not actually playing then it might be worth it. If it's so you don't get stuck on something or want to know how to do something then the internet is free =)
