Gamebanshee should have a pretty good guide up soon after release. They keep it updated and add new sections should expansions or DLC be released. They've been pretty good about it for a lot of the RPGs i've played including NWN, Oblivion, KotOR, The Witcher, etc.

What does the strategy guide include? Is this where we get to find out what spells really do? My gut tells me "no", I'm afraid...

I generally don't bother with buying guides as there's the Internet, but I'm buying the Xbox version, so I might buy the guide in case I get stuck and I don't have time to pour over the forums for advice (I am currently attending classes and working on graduating). It depends on how much the guide ends up costing.

There is no way in hell I am going to avoid buying the game guide. Given that I have been notorious about sticking to just one class my entire adult life in the dnd universe, this guide can help me craft a character I can "own".

Also, if I get stuck someplace, I don't want to be cussing every game site in the universe for not having their walkthrough up within 30 seconds of game release :)

Oh god, I know the feeling - I had such endless problems with the keep in NWN2 before any game sites had posted its mechanics that I thought I'd tear my hair out. It's not enough to make me buy a guide, though - I'm too weak-willed not to spoil myself by browsing through the guide ostensibly looking at the pretty art instead of exploring the game. With DA:O, I figure I'll play through it more than once, so I can catch stuff I missed the first time. I

I usually don't buy game guides. The lack of good spell descriptions has me a little worried though, I'd rather know ahead of time how much damage and how long spells do/last, without having to spend my points and try everything out to find out. So...I've been considering it. For something that small though, an online walkthrough will prob work just fine.

Ughh... Yeah, Crossroads keep was rather frustrating.

I was poorly prepared at Crossroads the first time around. Then the online help guides went up. Never had the Keep in anything less than stellar since.

When I'm in the bathroom I can't play Dragon Age. I can, however, read a guide. And if I'm doing a good job in there I'll need 300+ pages to read.

Don't read it, it will ruin the game if you don't discover things by yourself.

I use guides, but only online ones and only after I've already played through the game once. By that time there are usually plenty available, often with much deeper discussion and more thorough coverage than store-bought and professionally published ones. However, that hardcover collector's edition guide does look pretty sweet...

You know, I can't help but feel diminished when I see product promotion based on the packaging (like the Rugged Hardcover!!!!) It feels like I'm back in the 15th century, when the europeans presented the native americans with *shinies* oooooooooo :P

And I think that guides in this day and age are pretty useless, even for console games. I use my laptop next to me when I'm on my console if somehting is too difficult or I get stucked

I certainly won’t be buying one but I will be looking for one on the internet at some point. I play on pc so they’ll probably be the start of one on the internet by the time I get a go on the game.

Kinda hoping that there isn’t one out for a while as I’m just too weak willed, I’ll find a site & have my laptop on next to me, with the site up, checking it as much as I play the game. Crap I know.

Tempted by the lore, signed cover, and interviews. Very tempted, but probably won't bother. I've already spent a lot of money on this game. :P

Well, after reading all this, I have found two good points:

- it's on paper [i hate to search for guides in teh internets in the middle of game and to read it on actual paper sounds super nice];

- lore [the same - even will accur online, reading on paper is so much beter and rewarding].

I usually buy them mostly for the artwork. I prefer to try to figure out how to get through the game myself the first few times, but sometimes there are little extras that are just so much fun to have =D

If I love the Game I buy the Guide. After I play through the Game a few times I like to read the Guide and find out what I missed and start playing all over again.Plus for me its the pretty book I can't resist.

I did that with BG2 too.

I haven't had a game guide since the original Diablo, and that one came with the game.
