They could also be in a party.

I'd feel awkward trying to start up a conversation with the other people in the lobby.

Mine is busted & I honestly cannot justify getting a new 1 as I basically only play this game on Xbox live. I *could* use a mic for talking to people while I am skyrimming, but... it is not really that crucial
Odd thing to hear when playing a different game.

Most 12 y/o's break that cheap 360 mic within a week of getting their 360. Since I'm pretty sure that is a majority of the XBL community = no mics.
/joking But still, mean.

I'm in my 30's. The thought of chatting up some stranger on a mic is odd to me. As is the notion that its possible to have a conversation - or maintain a relationship with someone - via text message, or that I should advertise personal details about my life on Facebook
I'm sure many people in my generation use mics (and text frequently, and use Facebook); I suspect, however, that as those of us in our mid to late thirties make up a good number of gamers (last I heard, we are the largest single demographic of buyers... mostly because we have money), that we're less likely to use mics than, say, teenagers or twenty-somethings

Want to tell me there's a brute coming up behind me? I'm good, key your mic and let me know. Want me to listen to your trailer trash music or want to tell me that your strategy is better than mine? Go pound sand.

I often don't say anything because I don't like people. Maybe that's a big part of it?
Ha! Same here.
Most of what I hear on XBL is stupid and crude, racist or misogynistic.

This. Some players are extremely picky. In my time in L4D2, I've been kicked, simply for not having a mic. At the time, I didn't have my headset, because I was near Austin and not Houston, and I left my mic at home. I had just bought L4D2, and wanted to play Versus mode. They kicked me, and I assume it was simply because I didn't have a mic. I understand, in Versus/Scavenge mode, communication is vital. But, me and another friend of mine can collect all the cans on that Mall Atrium map every time, as long as we have the two of us, and the two of us have mics. Good, mature players don't kick someone simply because they don't have a mic. I see how they play, then decide if I want to kick him. Simple right?theillusiveman11 wrote...
I never really saw a need to get one. Until I joined a community and was required to have one.

Lol "Why does no use mics" xD
In truth, I'm always in a party when I play ME3.
I pop into game chat at the start of a match, say hello, etc.
But when I hear Goon #1 shouting at someone else in the background, Goon #2 having absurdly loud music, and Goon #3 in a wind tunnel--I go back into Party chat and talk with friends playing other games.
