Because when I play this game it's for entertainment, not to talk to retards.

Anything of value that I'd have to say would fall on deaf ears anyway.

I have a mic, but I rarely use it unless I'm playing with friends. Sometimes revealing the fact that you're a female gamer has it's downsides...especially on Xbox Live, haha.

-Using a mic is not required for playing the game.
-Mic might be broken.
-Player quite simply doesnt want to talk to other people online.
-Player might not own mic. -
-Player might not care about tactics or improving his chaces of success by talking to others.
-Player might be shy.
-Any other reason

How can those clrear reasons escape anybody? I refuse to believe that the OP or others do not have the mental capacity to understand this.

LadyNemesis, one thing I've noticed about gaming, is that most males who play video games react like that. Its typical. My friend at college said she dealt with the same thing while playing WoW in the days when WoW was actually difficult. Its typical, at least with a girl. When I play Mass Effect 3 with my friend's wife, it is a little bit different. For example, we don't make a big deal when she uses a rocket on an Atlas on Bronze. The problem with males in online games is that they need to be a little more mature, and learn how to deal with a woman.

From what I've seen, the majority of us in this community actually don't care.

We're more concerned with whether or not said player is actually any good. I haven't witnessed rampant sexual harassment in the ME 3 community, especially when compared to that of say... CoD, Halo, or Gears of War.

Players that have in-game awareness are by far better than a team with mics. I'll take a team with no mics and an understanding of the game and it's mechanics over a team of mic users who constantly brag and don't use consumables. Mics are not needed. Situational awareness is a key component to success.

Why do you think I love my Drell/Shadow so much? Any class that can move faster than others is a blessing, not a curse. Any time I spec a character, and have an option for movement speed, I take it. It is life saving, especially with no communication. When I play my Destroyer, I dont have Devestator Mode on most of the time, because without it on, I have the Mobility of a Quarian, but I move the same speed as a Turian.

One of my cousins tends to steal my mic frequently, only to give it back a week later with a shameless "sorry" as company.

Other than that, I'm just not fond of using it when PUG'ing.

I have a wireless 360 mike, which is hard to toggle from muted to unmuted. And it beeps at you when it's muted which gets rather annoying. So I usually play without a mike unless everyone has one.

I think they truly don't understand the concept that mics help the team in the game. Or they are just lone wolves who want to run and gun and be top of the scoreboard. I gave up on the mic in random matches after the weekend. Even if they don't have a mic, odds are they can hear you but when you warn then that a brute is about to flank them and they don't respond by moving out of the way, all I can think is they had a death wish - especially since I use their ID or part of it.

When I play with friends I use a mic, at other times itÄ's not really neccessary if everyone can play at least halfway decent. Of course if you are dead and the surviving morons don't even try to accomplish the Wave goal that sucks, but it doesn't happen that often.

Sometimes playing with microphones can even be irritating since we have players from all over the world, with some whose english is quite... let's say basic.
I recently played with two people whit mics who loudly talked during the whole game in some slavic language. They screamed, they cursed, they laughed. It was almost the worst game I ever played because I couldn't get into the groove at all.

I think age plays into it somewhat

I'm in my 30's. The thought of chatting up some stranger on a mic is odd to me. As is the notion that its possible to have a conversation - or maintain a relationship with someone - via text message, or that I should advertise personal details about my life on Facebook

I'm sure many people in my generation use mics (and text frequently, and use Facebook); I suspect, however, that as those of us in our mid to late thirties make up a good number of gamers (last I heard, we are the largest single demographic of buyers... mostly because we have money), that we're less likely to use mics than, say, teenagers or twenty-somethings

This one is 17 and I feel the same way (about texting and the likes).  I have a mic but I never wind up using it.  I'm right there along with a lot of people on this thread, where I have it, but feel awkward when trying to start up a convesation.  It only gets used if there is a phantom preparing to enter melee range unseen.

Thank you, Ashen, you took the words out of my mouth. I'm always well informed on changes, like the Typhoon "Nerf" I've been telling people since launch that ULM doesn't work on any SMG. In multiplayer, it works when you pair it with a Pistol ULM. Like you said, what I have to say usually falls on deaf ears. I tell people ULM doesn't work, they choose to use a Hurricane  by itself with ULM, then spend the match complaining that their powers aren't regenerating very fast. Typical, at least in my experiences.

On the other hand, I've seen people use mics but I can't hear them because I'm in a party. They think I can listen but they haven't a clue...

I have a mic, and i don't bother plugging it in. 90% of the time, the only other players with a mic, are little kids screaming;
"YOU DUPID NOOBER!!! HAHAHA! IMMA GUNNA BEAT YOU GUD!!"

And yes, the spelling is purely for context.

I personally don't like to talk when I'm gaming, not if I'm playing with unknowns anyway. My friends list is small as none of my friends are gamers. I disagree that communication is essential in this game. Know the spawns, enemy movements/patterns/actions become predictable after a while etc.

Right now I have a choice. I can plug in my mic and the rest of the group can hear my old A/C window unit rattle in the background. Or I can turn it off and sweat. Since I'd rather be comfortable while I play, and I don't want to annoy the rest of the group, no mic for me.

On xbox using a mic usually ends in a screaming match. Then someone's feelings get hurt and they quit. Games always go smoother without them.

I have been playing since release (on and off) and i can count on my fingers how many times i have been in a lobby with mics. This sucks because in a game like this communication is key well at least for me it is.

no need to use a mic unless your on gold or platinum, and most of them play with friends

I find it annoying when people have mics, unless I'm in Plat I mute them. I don't communicate at all but I top lobbies regularly and usually finish wave ten then wipe unless they want to live, in which case I will try, but no more consumables.

I always listen to music when I play.

In fact, I have to mute half of the people that do use mics so it doesn't get interrupted by intermittent heavy breathing or their Kinects.

Usually, as soon as I notice someone else has a mic, I make a party with just me in it so I can switch over to party chat and have silence. I only use my mic when I'm playing with friends (and then we're in a party together)

I Only talk when others are talking. unless they sound like an a****le. And i mute kids, heavy breathers, and kinect users. on principle. since the rest of the people are so quiet i just keep my headset on in the rare event there is someone polite to talk with while playing.

I personally don't use a mic because I hate talking...
Plus, I usually play Bronze and Silver; no need to communicate when it's that easy...
Don't really need to use it on Gold since I usually just farm Firebase White after getting the Unwavering achievement...
Communication can be helpful in this game but it's not needed for victory...

Been playing on Xbox live for years, the reason why it seems no one uses there mic is because of Party Chat.

Party Chat is the main one, but it can be that some people just don't feel like talking or their mics don't work, or other issues.

Hell if I know.
I'll have mine plugged in just because and besides calling out stuff I deem crucial, I don't really talk.
Unless someone else is talking about something relevant to the game of course.
