I don't have the DLC and I will not buy it at the moment. Can someone who has played it please PM me the story (in 4-5 lines, or as much as they feel comfortable writing)?

Argueing about what? What is the point with argueing with a shackled AI?

I could ask the same question about shackled BSN posters.

Don't matter. I'm right.=]

you -------------------------> the point

The point I was making is that the catalyst is shackled. Are you saying I'm blindly saying that?

yes you are, because even if he was or wasn't doesn't really matter and you end up ignoring everything else we say because your so stuck on trying to be right about a shackle

But my statement has a point. What is the point of argueing with a shackled AI?
You'll just yell at it for doing what's it's doing andit will just do it any way.

Hey now, I'm all ready and willing to declare the mid-to-late 90's the treasure trove of gaming as far as compelling storytelling is concerned, but ME1, ME2, and ME3 were made in 2007, 2010, and 2012 respectively, and I love them all! It happens from time to time, you see.

nowadays it's all about the quick or even instant satisfaction, the bigger the explosion the higher the sales apparently (marketing really works like that, alway assume people are idiots who do not know what they want, so you have to tell them what they have to want)

So... Anyone got the scene with the extra dialogue choices with the Catalyst?

And this Intelligence, the Catalyst. It is the Citadel. So the Leviathans built the Citadel or did the Intelligence built it to start the whole cycle trap?

Feeling that sick feeling I get whenever I see Liara's image fizzle out after she explains they lost and the credits start, like this is somehow a valid excuse for an ending. There's nothing.

I can not recommend this DLC. It has some good ideas, but they're sadly ideas that have already been done. The Mech suit, but in another location, even if it is a cool one. The bit with EDI investigating the lab was great, too bad she gets nuked in Destroy, and it's just a rip of of Liara's apartment, even if the dialogue is amusing.

The characters introduced are weak at best, and they try too hard to be deep or emotional like with the ****ign Vent kid, only this time with Ann. And it falls so flat. The acting is atrocious, the dialogue is poor, and we ultimately do not care because we do not know the woman.

Hell, I feel more attachment to Grace Sato and Aethyta, and they didn't get their own DLC.

As for the Leviathans, they are an utter disappointment. They look like mini reapers made of coral. Finding Leviathan was interesting, but everything after he first enters the screen just goes downhill. No mention of the Catalyst, they just skip right over it's relevence to the Crucible (even though they know of the Crucible and have had plenty of time to obtain the plans for themselves once the Reapers retreated). Another plot hole. It feels like the entire point of the plot is to justify or rationalize and explain the Catalyst further. Again, it falls flat. Plotholes and idiot logic are the name of the game. And for some reason, the Leviathans can think a Reaper to death, or enslave it or whatever. Which begs to question how they lost the war in the first place, or why they can't do that to every Reaper.

Worst of all are the implications for the future. Leviathan ends abruptly with NO choices. You do not get to choose whether you even want Leviathan's help. You can not elect to destroy it, which would be a wise course of action given that these beings once conquered the galaxy with their simple PRESENCE. It's especially bad for Destroy, because with the Reapers gone, there is nothing to really stop them from doing this again.

All in all? I'm not impressed. Here, there is none of the character of Shadow Broker, none of the satisfaction of Bring down the Sky, none of moral questioning of Overlord, and none of the novelty of Arrival. Leviathan is devoid of charm and character, lacks coherence, has absolutely no impact on anything, and any implications that arise are forced and only add to the futility of the endings. I feel as though I just sat through several hours of Mac and Casey trying to shove my face in crap and convince me it smells good. I am left only with a desire to vomit.

That is my subjective opinion, take it for what it is. I am glad I was able to bring breaking information to you guys, thank you for giving me the opportunity.

Take it worth a grain of salt, but just finishing, I actually enjoyed the DLC.  There's full squad inclusion, and I played with EDI and James, so I'd be curious to try this with others like Tali & Garrus. I suppose that if any of these are LI, it adds to that, but I had a romance with Jack, so nothing of course there.  Agreed, some emotional parts that feel a bit forced, but I felt fine in it.

Also, several instances for interrupts, and one intense interrupt(s) scene for Renegade Sheps ;)

BUT, Riptide, I'm with you on some good points you make about the implications of it. Even though I enjoyed it, it is unfortunate that you lose any choice in the end about the inclusion of the Leviathan in the war, not even if nothing else requiring a charm/intimidate check.  And great point about Leviathan threat to the galaxy after the Reaper threat is nullified.
.....

To add, there was an intriguing comment made by Leviathan about the "intelligence" searching for something, using the cycles as experimentation to find what it was looking for, that the solution isn't really the cycle itself but the means for the solution.  My guess, in other words saying that the cycles ultimately are purposed for the goal of what Synthesis comes to represent, an experiment to get to that point. Not necessarily new info or not deducible before, but more direct.

So, considering that we have the impression that within the Reaper shell, there's a shell that's a representation of the original species harvested. Does that mean that Harbinger has exactly the same thing in miniature on the inside? Is Harbinger the Universe's first Babushka Doll?

Exactly, unless they are the most idiotic people ever.  First rule, program the big bad AI so it won't hurt us, especially if other big bad AIs and synthetics have been hurting people.  And the problem is that if shackled the AI kid would have had an extremely linear idea of what "create peace and balance" would mean.  He couldn't interpret that to mean create war to create peace.  In order to do that he would have to be more adaptive and sentient and less shackled.  His programming would limit him to do certain things and other things would be illogical unless he was given freer ability to decide.

To sum it all up after watching it on youtube:

Powerful race enslaves lesser species...

Lesser species built robots that turn against them...

Powerful race is concerned & built an AI (star child) to solve the problem...

Star child turns against powerful race harvesting them & from their essence, builds the very first reaper: Harbinger...

Oh god this is hilarious-I never thought of it like that.  That was a way I think in order to explain away proto reapers and the lack of diversity amongst the reaper reapers.  I still have a hard time seeing a human proto reaper inside a reaper, flying it around.  But even more hilarious is the idea of a flying biped reaper, like some evil mechanical anti-Superman in space.

The Leviathan claims the rest of the Leviathans hide in the derkest corners of the galaxy, I think that confirms there are more than three.

Paraphrase:

Shepard: Met your creators. They're a part of this war now.

Catalyst. Good. I welcome them. I am only doing what they wanted.

If that doesn't say thecatalystisa shackled Ai doing what it's programed to do, I  don't know what would.

Why are you so hung up over that fact, anyway?

You have no idea how many arguements I had about this on this forum.

Mostly because you failed to see that it didn't even matter whether he was shackled or not.  If someone said the choices were his-you said no, because he was shackled.  And that didn't matter.  The choices were still seen as the result of him and his crazy logic, even if that logic was the result of his crazy shackled programming.  You completely, always ignored anything anyone would say acting like "he's shackled" made it all ok.

He caused war, but was supposed to create peace-so his shackling was done by 2 year olds who couldn't program a DVR.  We repeatedly said if he was shackled it was the worst attempt at it ever.

Yeah, and EDI is shackled because she does exactly what she was amde to do. Run the Normandy.

Whatever Starbinger is, it isn't shackled. Shackled AI's do not turn and overthrow their creators.

So you never heard of Hal?
What's happening in ME3 with the catalyst is not new to scifi. Shacled AI can defy there creators programing by doing thing the creators do not expect them to do. The leviathean wanted the catalyst to presevere life, it in turn preserve life in a form of a reaper. The leviatheans never thought the catalyst would do it so no block were in place to stop it from doing that action. A shackled AI is a slave to it'sprograming, not it's creators or masters. What you miss understanding is the concept of interface. A machine has to be program to obey the interfact of the use to be stopped by it's masters orders. That is not how the catalyst was programed. It was progremedto think of a solution on it's own then impose it.

"Each formed in Harbinger's image"... retcons, they just simply love them. Instead of changing textures they retcon things. How lazy is that?

Umm, actually the Catalyst implies this in the Extended Cut before Leviathan was released.

Not so literal, the retcon is still there though.

As said word-for-word in the Extended Cut:

Catalyst: The Reapers are a synthetic representation of my creators.
Shepard: And what happened to your creators?
Catalyst: They became the first true Reaper.

Seems crystal clear to me

With literal I meant having the giant cuttlefish in the background looking exactly like Harby. Till that moment we only knew that the species form (the real image) was inside the giant dreadnought, just like Terminator in ME2 wasn't supposed to go flying like superman shooting lasers from his eyes.

So how it a retcon to explain where the dreadnought outer shell came from? That is what the Catalyst was talking about and what Leviathan supports. Leviathan never said anything about the inner shape.
