So, considering that we have the impression that within the Reaper shell, there's a shell that's a representation of the original species harvested. Does that mean that Harbinger has exactly the same thing in miniature on the inside? Is Harbinger the Universe's first Babushka Doll?

Oh god this is hilarious-I never thought of it like that.  That was a way I think in order to explain away proto reapers and the lack of diversity amongst the reaper reapers.  I still have a hard time seeing a human proto reaper inside a reaper, flying it around.  But even more hilarious is the idea of a flying biped reaper, like some evil mechanical anti-Superman in space.

As I've said, Harbinger might be the only "pure" reaper without a shell of it's own, mostly because he is the made out of the Leviathans, this is pure speculation, of course.

Yeah, and EDI is shackled because she does exactly what she was amde to do. Run the Normandy.

Humans breed. They are designed to seek a mate for procreation. Humans are shackled.

Whatever Starbinger is, it isn't shackled. Shackled AI's do not turn and overthrow their creators.

Exactly, unless they are the most idiotic people ever.  First rule, program the big bad AI so it won't hurt us, especially if other big bad AIs and synthetics have been hurting people.  And the problem is that if shackled the AI kid would have had an extremely linear idea of what "create peace and balance" would mean.  He couldn't interpret that to mean create war to create peace.  In order to do that he would have to be more adaptive and sentient and less shackled.  His programming would limit him to do certain things and other things would be illogical unless he was given freer ability to decide.

That's the problem. What is allowing the catalyst to attack it's creators is an issue of defination. It sees what it does as helping and preserving, not killing. Get it.
This is hal form Odyssey 2001 all over again.

And this Intelligence, the Catalyst. It is the Citadel. So the Leviathans built the Citadel or did the Intelligence built it to start the whole cycle trap?

Not even the writers know that mate. They make it all up as the story progresses. That's artistic integrity for them.

The Leviathan claims the rest of the Leviathans hide in the derkest corners of the galaxy, I think that confirms there are more than three.

So once we Destroy the Reapers, the Leviathans move in.

Man this galaxy is screwed.

Like I said, we're stuck with mind-controlling cuttlefish no matter what.  Destroy ending?  Leviathans still around.  Control ending?  Leviathans still around, and they can apparently just shut off newly reprogrammed Reapers.  Synthesis ending?  Intelligence gets what it wants and big giant cuttlefish are still in control.

Watched the conversation with the Leviathan.

The Intelligence/Catalyst made the Reapers build the Mass Relays. To speed up the cycles for better efficency.

So i guess the Catalyst was like a computer or harddrive on the Leviathans homeworld before it commanded the Reapers to build the Citadel and place him there at the tower.

The entire bit on the asteroid is my favorite part of Leviathan. The scenery was impressive. Not to mention the indoctrinated miners who really added to the feeling with their dialog and behavior.

Trying to keep up with this thread. I just downloaded it and almost wishing I didn't but it's only $10. My concern now is if it offers at least some more information about the reapers or leviathan rather than just gameplay that is essentially more MP, which I've gotten bored with after a few weeks of playing regularly. Bringing Down the Sky was the only other DLC I did. I thought about getting Arrival but I'm not sure I want that as part of the storyline added in at this point or if I'd even enjoy playing it.

So if it offers nothing new insight wise into the reapers and their creators or how it came to this level of destruction with the reapers, I guess I'll just play MP with friends when I feel like it and promote as I choose until I can coast through ME3 which to me pales in comparison to ME1 storywise. I was really hoping for more info since there was very little to none in two or three. We got lots of info in ME1 but a lot of it was left there to wither on the vine.

Even getting some kind of war assets out of it would be nice, but it sounds like actually leviathan is worse than the reapers.

I get the feeling that without the Reapers about, Leviathan might be worse. And it's possible that the Catalyst KNOWS it. What if it realized that Leviathan was the problem...and it was due to their screwed up logic that the Reapers because the universe stomping force that they are?

Simply put, HAL had to Zeroth Law Space Cthulhu to prevent VIKI from wiping out all life. At least, it's a possibility...

Wait! They just made one of the most horrific endings in game play worse with my $10? I just bought an even worse ending? Tell me that is not the case because I swear my head will explode.

No, I'm saying that it doesn't matter if the AI is shackled or not (and it isn't).  What, are we supposed to feel sorry for it?

It is shackled. This dlc make it clear. And you fell empathy for it....Then you destroy it. And don't do what it's creators did.

There's no real decisions at all.

I was actually expecting a choice to either have Leviathan join you or exterminate it, as it kind of was building up to that during the mission. Evidently, that's not what happens. You do get a rather interesting conversation at the end, though.

I thought they said that they were hiding in the darkest corners of the galaxy or something like that, which means lots more of them and now reapers are the good guys? When did this happen. Was there a conversation in Leviathan that makes it worse than the reapers?

Right now, I have so much hate for BW that I am done done done with all the ME games at least until I can imagine up something that fills in the blanks and isn't the most horrific ending ever.

So you never heard of Hal?
What's happening in ME3 with the catalyst is not new to scifi. Shacled AI can defy there creators programing by doing thing the creators do not expect them to do. The leviathean wanted the catalyst to presevere life, it in turn preserve life in a form of a reaper. The leviatheans never thought the catalyst would do it so no block were in place to stop it from doing that action. A shackled AI is a slave to it'sprograming, not it's creators or masters. What you miss understanding is the concept of interface. A machine has to be program to obey the interfact of the use to be stopped by it's masters orders. That is not how the catalyst was programed. It was progremedto think of a solution on it's own then impose it.

Ok, just stop.  If he's shackled it was a poor job-once again you ignored that.  Enough about this, really.  That's all you come back to is shackling.  I don't think people care about that at all.  HAL was messed up too, and still Dave tried to "argue" with him, to make him see that his interpretation of his programming was illogical.  Shackling in either case wasn't done well and was overcome and misinterpreted.  Even Spock's logic could be argued with and he was part human.  All logic can be, even an advanced AIs because it may see that it's own interpretation was illogical.

They can mind control people with ease.

With the relays shut down how hard do you think it would be for them to move on the fringe worlds and build up an army of loyal subjects?
