Anyone have any toughts on the orbs thing? i would like to have an informated discussion regarding those orbs so please jump into the discussion :)

I think they were just reaper activated mind control or dominate organics objects much like the sesory objects of the protheans. But I'm not clear on why some get triggered and some don't. I think Leviathan has something to do with that, being an advanced life for it probably knew to kill the doctor to keep shepard from finding it. It seems that it was doing a good portion of what it was in the DLC for survival mode minus the miners.

Honestly, it seems more like something they added in without a clear reason or purpose. More as a trigger to demonstrate and a tool to use.

Might add to my earlier comments, the VA of Ann Bryson was in quite a few spots sorely lacking. I can understand how hardened veterans like Shepard and his team would be unmoved by destruction they faced when picking up Ann but instead the lines that are provided are read with same level of emotion as one might having when reading a dictionary - let alone when learning from the death of her father. There is no shock, no nothing in the VA. It was really weird to see more emotion on screen in the character's face than to hear on her voice in a game like ME3.

Mmm, maybe you missed some of the dialogues during the DLC, and to be honest its not for lack of attention but because during the last dialogue with leviathan everything is pretty much tossed upon the player with little to no time for refliexion.

Leviathan stated that when they where forced to go dark to avoid beign "harvested" by the newly "out of control" (not quite since it was only doing what they programmed it to do) AI they created they used these orbs to monitor the progress of other species in a safe way, they where like mirrors or windows for the leviathan's for them to watch the exterior world.

Hence they are not at all reaper tech. They are pure leviathan tech.
Protheans left devices like the beacon at eden prime to warn other species about the reaper treath.
This was clarified by Vigil on Mass effect 1 and to a degree by javik on mass effect 3, they used those beacons not as a form of control, but as a way to communicate with other species (mainly prothean) wich could gather data with the touch, trough the essence of things.

These orbs seemed to be triggered at will by the leviathan's, the only way to stop this was using some sort of barrier to isolate leviathans control over other objects/species.

It seems to me the existence of these orbs is very well explained (on the DLC at least), as they are the tools leviathan's used to watch whatever caught their attention in a safe way, and to allow them to sieze control of other organics within the orbs range of influence.

Wich makes me wonder..
how did the consort got a hold on a trinket to actually "activate" a orb?
since the orbs where never prothean devices used to monitor and hence lean the development of certain species in one way or other, what was the point of leviathan monitoring the human race?
why did we got an orb on the firewalker dlc on mass effect 2? i mean, whats the connection with the research taking place on firewalker and the leviathans ?

I liked the DLC but it pales in comparison with the Shadow Broker. The water sequence was nice though incredibly short. Nothing compares with the Broker's base exterior visuals, quite a fantastic setpiece in ME2.

It's good to finally see the race the Reapers modelled themselves after, especially since it was very silly how in ME2's ending there's this big commotion about how the Reapers harvest and then make new reapers and then in ME3 you don't see any human or other reapers.

This should have been in the main game.

And is there any confirmation that it's the same orb as in ME2's dlc? Does it look the same or is there any statement to that effect?

I like the relation between the Leviathan(s) and the Cataclyst.
The Leviathan wanted control and "tools" and created the Cataclyst to come up with a solution. The Cataclyst follows this programming blindly.
It is a bit sad. The Cataclyst is like a child(cough) that wants his parents attention, when he to their fear lits a fire, as he has been told, but uses their furniture as fuel.
That the Cataclyst made the Reapers out of their image, a little sign of appreciation to its creators. While the Leviathan(s) disregard their creation with hatred and fear.

Please have a look at these pages.

this one refering to the orb from mass effect 1
http://masseffect.wi...m/wiki/Eletania

this one regarding firewalker dlc...
http://masseffect.wi...:_Prothean_Site

and i quote the trivia part on this last link
The relic found initially bears a striking resemblance to the one found on Eletania.

Eletania was the planet where you found the first of these orbs on the mass effect universe on mass effect 1

Answering your question...
-"And is there any confirmation that it's the same orb as in ME2's dlc? "
There has been no confirmation on them being the same orb as in ME2 dlc, wich anyway would be unlikely, not the "same" orb, but the point is to determine if these orbs are of the same kind and have the same creator.
-"
Does it look the same" ?
All these orbs pretty much look the same wich would be a rather unlikely "coincidence".
-"...  is there any statement to that effect?"
Theres no statement to that effect. but pretty much all connections on the mass effect universe have been deducted from the facts (objects, events, dialogues, etc.) that take place during the game and its DLC's

Some really interesting connections being made here. I look forward to seeing if and how any of them pan out in future DLC. Also, I thought Leviathan was pretty good. Like some reviewers have stated, placing the DLC before the end of the game takes some of the urgency and relevance out of the experience, but well made, fun, and interesting all the same.

It this DLC was in the original game, there wouldn''t have been a major sh*tstorm I think. Everyone would be like: "OMG, it's the intelligence Leviathan talked about!!!"
Oh man, that would be so awesome.

Hey guys quick question. I don't have leviathan yet. (Not even sure if I ever will get it.) However if I do get it, when do you think is the best time to start leviathan.

Does it feel like an end game DLC, or is it something you should pursue early on?

Well, the mission itself its avaible very early on, after palaven mission, where you get the primarch and get garrus on your squad if he survived mass effect 2.
I would recommend playing it before thessia, seems more fitting in my opinion in the story, but you can play it just from the start and its pretty much a sidequest with more relevance for the story of the entire series than the mass effect 3 game itself.
Also i think there are some lines regarding the love interest you have that will appear only if you start the relationship again on this game so... up to you, those are the things i believe you should keep in mind when playing this DLC.

Early on was when it came up for me. I was early on in the game, right after my first vid with hackett after kaidan is injured on mars. There was an email amost immediately around that time regarding me meeting with the doctor. I looked for him at the citadel as instructed but in a subsequent visit it came up as an option to go to the citidel or doctor's office. So for me it was early on.

Added interesting info:

I brough javick and Garrus on all my trips that were not to the office. Javick was perfect as was Garrus to have as fighthers as well as for commentary. Javick had the unique perspective of living through the reapers which had only begun to show up on Palavin's moon. And Garrus was with me from meeting Sovereign on vermire. But they are my go to warriors whenever I feel like advancing in ME3 and play it a little. Strong for Cerberus. Perfect for anything reaper related. Great warriors. Javick was just so interesting and I was suprised because (keep in mind it was 1am when I played it) it seemed like he was very curious about leviathan despite that it's reaperish, IIRC, and wanted to get to it. But he's focused on anything that will kill reapers. Javick and Garrus were perfect to have in all the situations that required battles and dealing with reapers or reaper issues like indoctrinated. Not sure how different the banter would have been with liara or anyone else.

Oy! I'm playing through it right now, and I have an extremely important question, if anyone who's played it is available.

Where the holy frijoles is EDI's cameltoe? I mean, I'm walking with her through the Doc's office, playing the patented, ME3, walk up to a reticule and click on it version of you're-not-shooting-anything-right-now-so-just-go-with-it gameplay, listening to my lady Shepster prattle on with Tricia and every time I 360 the camera around them to give the scene a bit more cinematic pizzazz (re: keep myself entertained), I'm remiss at the total lack of cleft in EDI's body-suit.

What gives?! Did they get rid of it due to all the anti-cleft naysayers? Anybody else notice this, or am I loony tunes here?

EDIT- In retrospect, prefacing the question with the words "Extremely Important" seems a matter of personal taste, now that I'm reading back through what I've just posted.

I just wanted to comment on how cool it was to explore subterranean environments in the suit. I have wondered why they never took to any water-dominated planets, and Despoina answered that cry.

I went with EDI and Liara as the team through most of the missions, bringing EDI felt right as she was present in the lab scenes, and the dialogue felt real natural and very good throughout. It's really great to hear that other combinations of teammates add some good insight as well. I'm going to replay it with different combinations to hear some of this.

Also I thought it was nice that they recorded specific crew dialogue in between the various missions, that was a nice touch that I'm sure many will have never noticed.

Cortez getting on the ground and getting in on the action was awesome as well, good to see the characters get out in the environments.

I personally enjoyed Leviathan. I thought it was fun, and there were a lot of fresh new elements and dialogue. Visually, it was gorgeous; I loved the hell out of Bryson's lab and the underwater section. I do feel that it raised more questions than it answered, though.

I'm not too sure I feel confident about winning one war only to walk right into the slavery of the "apex race," replacing one threat with another. Unless, of course, the Leviathans go out fighting, but given their self-importance I doubt it would come to that. Who knows, perhaps Shepard could reason with them.

I felt like a lot of what Shepard said to the Leviathan was what she SHOULD have said to the Catalyst. ("This cycle is different!") It was a little bit like a repeat of the Catalyst conversation, only this time, it worked. I do like that the Leviathans were potrayed as fallible despite their immense power.

And what I didn't like about it: more war assets that someone who has completed the game knows don't matter at all, especially since the EC, when the threshold was lowered. The most optimism I've ever seen from Admiral Hackett and the crew, again fruitless given the ending. No apparent impact on the ending at all whatsoever despite the HUGE advantage that the Leviathans were supposed to give us. Feels pretty disconnected.

Is there another part coming? (Crucible DLC? LOL)

Disappointingly Good!

All in all it was awesome. However, I would have loved it if they were incorporated more in the end, just a small cut scene where they pawned majority of the reapers and thus turned them against each other. That would have made my day.

A reference in the dialogue is not enough. We should have seen them in action.

As time has progressed, I have come to appreciate Leviathan, both for its design and its potential. Now, I haven't gotten the DLC...suicide in all choices still doesn't let me try more DLC (sigh), but I can appreciate the continuation.

As a promise for more DLC, it felt pretty good. We have approximately 3-4 months before another SP DLC comes out (judging from the ME2 DLC releases)...I hope it's a Reunion release. Maybe something like "Witch Hunt" from DA:O?

Something I was wondering and I dont know if anyone else would know. In ME1 you can find an artifact on a planet surface and and when you interact with it, text pops up about how you were knocked out and other stuff. Im wondering is that artifact a Leviathan artifact?

"We will fight, but not for you. We are the first Apex race...We will survive"

So basically, if you pick destroy, the Leviathans are going to want to enslave everyone again?

No. Those giant spheres that you find in ME1 and ME2(Firewalker DLC) were from the Protheans.

Unlikely, they can't do much without thralls and besides now everyone knows where they live.

Didn't feel like reading through all the pages...has there been any discussion on the War Assets gained through Leviathan? The one that I am most interested in discssing is the "Leviathan Enthrallment Squad" (not sure on exact title, but you should get what I mean). In the description for the asset it talks about how this could create an "anti-Reaper" Reaper army...anyone else get the impression that this meant that the asset could grow? And if it can, how will it grow? And what impact might it have on the ending (cause the Reaper's losing control of some of their own would seem fairly significant to me)?

That's the problem. The assets in Leviathan provide so much unused potential.
