Being able to restealth in combat is one of the best skills in the game in my opinion, especially if you're going to play this as your player character, and not have one of the party do it.

I love my sword/dagger rogue, insane DPS. Just make sure to always be behind things, and you will have a blast.

Mine is geared towards cunning/lethality, and it's awesome to play. High cunning does quite a few nice things for you as a main character, especially if you going the coercion route. That was probably my most fun playthough to date.

Given that the game surrounds you at the start of every major fight, and puts you about 3 inches from the bad guy, not having restealth as a rogue can be a real pain in the butt.

I highly recommend it. Besides, you have plenty of points to get all the other stuff you need, rogue builds can actually be pretty focused and be highly successful.

This could show it, I guess

Rogues have fun too -

And this could explain it fully

It's a talent, not a skill, obviously the one with the picked lock icon.

1 tier in deft hands equals +10 in cunning.

In my first game, I didn't use stealth much with Leliana. However, in my second game, I pumped stealth up since my main character, Julane, was a rogue. Wow, what a difference it makes! This is why I love rogue characters; all the sneaky backstabbing take-out-the-mage-early tactics are super cool, not to mention wandering around disabling all the traps before sending in the troops.

Player Character opinion = Thus I hide(clothe) my naked villainy

I'm planning on having a trio of rogues party in one playthrough with them all having stealth and just sneaking around enemies unless really needing to kill them.

Depends on your playing style. I played a duelist/assassin without stealth and it was great fun. She was able to go toe to toe with most enemies and hardly took serious damage.

However, stealth can be fun too. The first two may not be that useful, but combat stealth is great.

the thing is, if i remeber correctly, the damadge of a sword is based on str, but that of a dagger is based on dex, so i think 2 daggers are the best for a rouge as they need alot of dex for there skills

Yeah, I dual-wield daggers. It's much more rogue-ish and since I'm a duelist/assassin with maxed stealth, it seems more appropriate. Swords just don't feel right.

Although, man, these daggers are some huge. Short swords?

Longswords are half STR/half DEX for damage. You can replace STR with DEX if you take Lethality.

You still need some strength to wield the better longswords in the first place though. But it's possible to get STR, DEX and CUN high enough for all your needs.

Daggers do more damgage though if you go all CUN, since cunning also increases armor penetration.

Longswords are always full STR.

CUN improves armor penetration for all weapons.

I prefer dagger/dagger.

Better bonuses at picking locks and bard songs.

Higher armor penetration than a strength/dexterity/cunning build.

Slightly faster attack.

Higher bonus to backstab damage with that talent I cannot remember the name of.

Higher attack rating than a strength/dexterity/cunning build.

Cunning has a lot of perks for a rogue, so it makes sense overall to pump only dexterity and cunning instead of spreading points over dexterity, cunning, and strength.

Someone did some analysis of different builds, the highest potential dps was a cunning dagger/dagger rogue, highest defense and attack rating was a dexterity dagger/dagger rogue, while other builds were mediocre in both respects.

By all means go another route if you prefer but a cunning/dexterity dagger/dagger rogue with preference for cunning is the best build for dps.

Stealth is great. Stealth, walk up behind the emissary, and call the rest of your party in. When he starts to attack, whack him on the head and slice and dice.

In this game the rogue is my favorite class. With Stealth 4 I can walk into an enemy camp, disarm traps, break their barracades and throw bombs until most of them are dead, without being detected. (Awesome at the magi tower) When using bombs though beware of blast radius on your stealth will drop and you'll get pwned!

Stealth is pretty cool. It's the feature that will let your rogue take down an entire mob single-handedly. The first attack from stealth, if it lands, will also be a crit, and the attack has no lag time like critical shot.

Beware though: One of the biggest annoyances is the rogue's desire to auto attack right after Stealth during battle. Even after walking way from the target, the rogue just keeps wanting to break stealth with an attack. This is really bad when you are trying to get a breather to restore hp or adjust attack strategies.
