DA3 Will be F2P?

They say that this "Command and Conquer" will be a platform where the first game will be this online-only F2P Generals 2, and other games will follow it in the CNC platform.
Do you guys think that DA3 will have the same fate, will it be turned into an F2P online game? It might not necessarily be on the same platform as G2, but they may make a "Dragon Age" F2P platform as well. Will you buy it if that happens?

However - I think EA has gotten enough of the internet raging at them over the past couple years about DA2, ME3, and SWTOR, that I HOPE they have realized they need to let Bioware go back to doing what they're best at with DA3. The fact that it seems like it won't be released for at least another year, when then had such a short dev cycle on DA2, gives me hope that they're serious about getting people what they want out of this. And it should be fairly obvious that people want a strong, story driven single player RPG. Which really, has no reason to be F2P.
So I'm gonna be optimistic here and say I don't think it will happen.

I've seen a lot of articles lately about EA games pushing that F2P is the way of the future. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they start making a lot of their games F2P.

EA wants more cheap F2P games like Farmville and Angry Birds where they can rake in the cash for minimum development cost. I dont know if you remember Westwood, the previous developer of the CNC universe. EA bought them, made them develop sh**ty games with low standards and then gutted them and dissolved the company. That is probably what will happen to BW. Lets hope EA doesnt buy CDPR next, lol

This. EA has been naming studios "BioWare" left and right.Korusus wrote...
The studio developing C&C is BioWare in name and on paper only.
Changing what something is called doesn't change what it is.

But I usually don't play MMOs for the story, and DA2 combat is not good enough for hard core raiding. If I was Bioware I'd stay out of online for it's story centered franchises.

If you havent heard, Bioware butchered CNC Generals 2. They made the game F2P and called it "Command and Conquer", removing the "Generals" completely.

What happened to C&C was due to over-extension of budgets and projects; basically EA couldn't afford to dedicate what it was going to take to make C&CG2 what they had originally previewed at E3 last year; but at the same time, they had already put in too much work to scrap it altogether, not when there was a chance they could make money off of the work done.
So, they're throwing out the Multiplayer maps only version and tacking on this "possible" F2P component. DA3, however, is a major central title in development that could very well be what redeems the BioWare brand name.
They would not risk that for a quick cash cow, stripped down, F2P/Online version. Again, this shouldn't have even been a question. It makes this thread somewhat superfluous. I know we're desperate to talk about something new, but, yeesh.

Which doesn't totally rule out it happening I guess, but I don't expect it at all.
If I was really looking for a new business model for Bioware games, I'd look into some sort of episodic format.

I would argue that DA2 did scrap most of what made BioWare games special.Wulfram wrote...
I don't think there's a sensible way to make Bioware games - actual Bioware games, not games by random studios which have had Bioware slapped in front of their names - F2P without scrapping most of what makes them special.
Which doesn't totally rule out it happening I guess, but I don't expect it at all.

I haven't LOVED a single game Bioware has put out in years and it's getting old. I barely even liked DA2, ME2 was pointless, ME3 was pretty good but still doesn't come close to the first one in my mind.
This F2P, Online single player, forced multiplayer business that seems to be popular of late has no place in RPGs.

You wouldnt think Generals could be an F2P game, but somehow they did that. You never know what will happen to DA3.

They have ALREADY said this several freaking times already. <_<<_<<_<<_<
The game will be a single player RPG just as the first two were. This C&C thing was a fluke and when they eventually make the DA:3 announcement... everybody will see.
Wish people would stop being so gullible and making BLIND assumptions.

Gullible means easily convinced. Nobody tried to convince me of anything.

I also doubt it will, seems common sense to start a new franchise in the F2P model not shift an existing one to it mid way through a series. Then again, this is EA, it made sense to make the sequel to a succesfull game in a similar style to the game that came before ... but they made Dragon Age 2.
Similarly, micro transactions have slipped into Mass Effect, and Dragon Age 2 had oodles of extra weapons and armour that could be bought with "real" money which were game breakingly powerful (and that i'm well and truly ashamed to have spent money on) so the dragon age series already has strong "pay to win" elements.
With microsoft amouncing two "free to play" xbox live games today the "free" to play model is creeping into consoles and even if dragon age 3 isn't made using this business model I fear we will be seeing a lot more of it and its a shirt term licence to print money for devs. I'm very negative about f2p as a way of selling games as I see very little evidence that the reality is anything other than "pay to win" and exploiting the more obsessive gamers desire to have all the best stuff while removing the true competaive element of multiplayer gaming.
Free to play is everything thats wrong with modern gaming in a business model and I fear, we're stuck with it. It will make companies like EA money for a while because there are enough gamers out there with more money than sense that will pay silly money to have better armour than their friends.
Personally, i'd rather pay for my games up front in a pricing structure that is transparent and honest(I.e the game costs £50.00 and for my money I get a complete gaming experience, not one where the game is "free" but then you pay to have anything other than the most basic exerience and end up spending £100.00 in micro transactions.....).
Bottom line, call me crazy, call me old fashioned but I like the idea that when you play an RPG you get better armour, weapons or make your character stronger by playing the game and levelling up, thats at the core of what I expect from an RPG. F2p removes that mechanic and replaces in game effort with real world cash, thats why its terrible news for gaming as a fun way to spend your time and thats why its brilliant for companies like EA, in the short term anyway.
I have a funny feeling that in the long term F2P might not be quite be as wonderfull business model as it seems as in the long term it might simply turn people away from gaming. It is a system designed to suck as much cash out of the player as possible not to create as much fun as possible. An entertainment medium needs to balance fun with cash generation and I think F2P/p2w gets the blanance wrong.
Anyway, rant over, Da3 probably won't be f2p......
Ahem.
