Polymorph
It works with group tactics as well... I often send slimed Mazzy or Haer'Dalis ahead to tank in magic intensive fights;
You can’t cast spells from your spell book but you can use items such as “Ring of Energy”, “Necklace of Missiles” and wands... you can also use any innate abilities; spell sequencer (both), Trigger, contingents (both), Haer'Dalis can spin, Mazzy can heal/ haste herself and Anomen can ‘Turn’.
Alesia_BH showed me that popping out of form to cast important spells sometimes works as well.
Attacks per round;
I kind of agree with this sentiment as my Imoen will typically use bows (allows special ammo) or daggers in bg1 because they both get the extra attack... for range fighting in bg2 it is hard to pass up ‘Melf's Minute Meteor’.
Group:
Personally I think that group could work well together because the biggest problem that people have with Keldorn is the friendly fire aspect of his powerful ‘Dispel’ but Imoen, Aerie and yourself simply put up ‘SI:ADJ’ to become immune to it.

Thanks ussnorway.
Do you think Aerie and Imoen/Jan will compete for (too) many unique items? For instance, When it will be possible I would like to give the robe of Vecna to Aere, as it speeds up the casting of both divine and arcane spells, or it is better to give it to Imoen?

2 mages will of course have some rivalry for items. That is much less of a problem than scrolls though, since even without the Ring of Wizardry or the Robe of Vecna a mage will still be able to perform properly.Stezzo wrote...

The true power of Vecna only becomes visible once you have access to Improved Alacrity, so I guess Imoen would be my first choice for the robe for at least a good chunk of the game. Everything else is preference. Who do you think should unload their entire spellbook as quickly as possible?

Both Aerie and Imoen are pretty self-contained when it comes to gear...
Without giving any spoilers away I’ll just say that in my experience you are better off with your main Mage (whichever one you pick for that spot) being able to cast spells faster than any enemy Mages you encounter i.e. the quick and the dead!
EDIT: Lol see what I mean... Humanoid_Taifun slipped in before me.

I'm not completely sure about Aerie though.. Is Jaheira good as healer if necessary?

Jaheira can do the healer job, yes. She's lacking a number of cleric-specific buffing spells, but in return she has the insect spells which, if used correctly, can shut down enemy mages completely.

Fighter/ Druid & Fighter/ Thief are very cheap multis... You would probably get away without dropping an extra slot for them but Keldorns’ ‘Dispel’ becomes a potential issue again.
Play style:
Ask yourself, “How do I want to play?”... If the answer isn’t magic then you should probably go for more beefy types like Mazzy or Minsc...
Draw sucker;

Magic battles tend to be over quickly (for better or worse) and the tank/ melee job is just to mop up stragglers or buy enough time to cast the first spells whilst the arcane have all the fun... be careful sending J up front with you because the classic D&D mistake is allowing your healer (raise dead) character to get killed.
