Unfortunately, turning on the news usually kills my semi-buoyant mood because there's almost always some incident that reminds you of the mindboggling stupidity and violence that mankind is capable of - kind of like the two creeps who attacked this poor dog. Also, I've found that reading these forums doesn't help any when you're trying to convince yourself that the rest of humanity doesn't suck.

Then I'd laugh and ask them how it feels to suffer a fate they inflicted on a poor, innocent animal.
Okay, I doubt I'd ever confront them simply because the chances of me going to Ireland are slim. But simply put, animal cruelty disgusts me to the point where if I found out these two kids died in a car or house fire, I wouldn't shed any tears. I'd laugh.
And this story brought my faith in humanity down again. Which makes me sad, because I had just read a story the other day about a baker who saved two people from a burning plane crash while he was barefoot.
And that had boosted my faith in humanity.

Burning the dog is cruel, but some of the comments ive seen by some of you guys proves you aren't no better than the one who hurt the dog... stories like these are just designed to get people riled up. Besides this stuff happens all the time, this is small time compared to the other **** humanity has done.
No. Dogs (animals) and little children represent the weakest and purest in the world.
Those who would viciously and gleefuly strike at that are the lowest of the low, scum of the scum.
I could set ablaze a million ****s like that and it wouldn't come close to the depravity and wrongness they commited.

I'm with you to an extent but doesn't mean the dog story doesn't get me angry. It's not hypocrisy really, my views on the starving kids in Africa etc has changed over recent years. I so hate to see children suffer but it has got to point where everytime I see an appeal I scream at tv "stop having kids you can't feed". There comes a point when human stupidity over-rules my sympathies to a degree.
Then we have the people complaining about social workers taking children from bad parents. Honestly if I was a social worker, if you are a parent and take mind altering substances regularly, are an alcoholic or believe humans rode dinosaurs, I would take kids away until they have been proven clean for at least 12 months. No second chances.
The gang problem again stems from people getting pregnant to young and/or being to uncaring to actual be parents. Throw in a macho culture, women who let men walk all over them and stupid gun laws and you have a major issue.

The issues concerning animals are largely man-made, and unlike humans they are completely helpless. Do you seriously think people would ignore the news about a burnt homeless person or a child?
People are bound to get some form of assistance, whereas for animals it takes news snippets to actually bring any attention to their problems. Take for example starving children and homeless people, in here there are always polemics over why animal charities get more attention from society and the media. But the thing is, the government is already dealing with the problems of poverty, whereas animal issues are completely at the mercy of charity.

Yes
Just do a google search for
Homelessman set on fire. Or Hobofights. Its amazing how many of thse are done by middle class kids, and how many of these crimes are thrown off with community service or lack of proof. And its so common there are even vids of it on Youtube. A whole generation of spoiled sociopaths.
As to kids ehh just look up pedophilia rings and sweat shops. While you cry for helpess animals bare in mind there are more slaves today than in any point of history. And I don't mean low class people, I mean locked in a basement slaves. Litterally Millions of them. Funny enough slavery is illegal everywhere.
And animals aren't too helpless, some ofthe more timid house pets are. But dogs can and still DO maul people to death.
I'm not saying I okay what those guys did. But killing them? Have you never crushed a bug? Hit a bird in a car? Been in a car that hit a bird? Killed a snake? You either in the case of Animal cruelty flip flop the laws based on personal feelings, or turn them draconian. Nevermind diverse cultural views. In some countries a dog is nothing more than a mongrol and a beast not worth more than destruction. Do we dictate to them as well? So many problems and so few cures.

Getting shot sounds as bad as starving to me. I am not really sure how this is supposed to be a small problem. And why are we not allowed to care about people torturing animals?
You are certainly right about people getting their priorities mixed up.

THAT is the lowest of the low.
Or another example: lesbian women in Africa being 'purified' by getting raped, just because some dip****s can't understand their sexual preference and think they are 'possessed' by an evil spirit.
Disgusting.
