Now don't get me wrong, I am a Destroyer, as I felt that it fit the character of my canon Paragon Shepard. I felt that Control was a trick of sorts and that Synthesis was a load of manure (read: "final" evolution). Now that Leviathan is out, however, I'm starting to believe that refuse is becoming more and more of a viable choice. I think that the "Refuse" option captures our angst (not Bioware's artistic angst) about the ABC ending. Who says that refuse dooms the galaxy? That was a message sent from Liara, but it also said that measures were taken to stop the Reapers for the future cycles. There is a lot we don't know about the refusal ending, other than the fight is not over quite yet. Besides, guys, Synthesis, Control, and possibly Destroy (Depending upon EMS) wouldn't allow for a sequel. Refusal allows for a sequel with the Commander. This is EA we're talking about here. Now I'd love another Mass Effect game, like something dealing with The Morning War, First Contact, Space Pirates, Mercs, Prothean Empire, etc, but I think the era of Shep's creepy smiles and alien blastin are over and shouldn't be expanded. I don't know this is all just ranting and speculation from me, so feel free to read or not, as I just needed to write it all down.
