I have tried everything to get the console to work, including using VI in the terminal. Nothing works. I'm running Snow Leopard, would that make a difference? Also, if anybody is feeling charitable, does anybody know how to install some of the downloadable content, like from Dragon Age Nexus? I have the FULL version of the game. I also purchased it for Windows that I run via bootcamp and though it runs "OK", it's not as fast as the Mac version....plus Windows 7 can only access 2 gig of RAM and I have 12 gig installed. I imageine that's the reason why Dragon Age runs much faster on the Mac side.
Hmm, strange. I'm running 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard is required to run DAO on a Mac, actually, so you're not trying to run with an incompatible OS build), on a MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM and a 3.06GHz processor, and the console works fine. (Everything else, now, that's a different story. The system tries to explode if I run anything better than medium quality with high texture.)
Did you check with Terminal to make sure that the config file is in fact written correctly now? You might try downloading Mac Vim as a stand-alone application and trying it that way. That's what I did, and it worked fine. Also, did you modify your keybindings.ini file at all? If you left it untouched, you should need to hit ' (grave accent) to access the console, NOT Shift+' (which would be a tilde; this can lead to confusion, since people call that key the 'tilde key' in reference to the console, and yet you are not actually trying to type the tilde character to access the console - just the grave, if you haven't reset it). Also, remember that the console itself is invisible, though some people (including myself) get a few lines of numbers at letters at the top of the screen.
What sort of mods are you looking to install? If you've got a .dazip file, you can use Modazipin, which can be downloaded from the Utilities section of DANexus. It's like the DAO Mod Manager for Mac. The best mods, however, just involve a file or folder placed in your ~/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/packages/core/override folder (which you're probably going to have to create, unless Modazipin has created it for you). They're the easiest to add and remove.
If you've got something other than a .dazip, PM me and let me know what mod it is and what sort of files it contains. I've installed most types successfully, but some do require modifying actual files used by the game if they're not packaged as a .dazip and they're not a simple override installation (rare, but they're out there).
