I would also imagine that they wanted to further justify Tricia and Freddies pay checks for the Extended Cut with these DLC moments...just saying. They are more high profile then Hillis, Stroka, Keener, Brooks, and Sbarge.
Yes. Really lame.

Beat me to it. I was going to add Garrus to the list of guaranteed, but remembered that he can die in the SM, so yeah, it was a choice of 3, as Leviathan is available as soon as you reach the Citadel the first time (which is when i did it). James would make no sense at all in the role, and Liara, well, a hell of a lot of BSN's would rage even more if it was Liara that was in EDI's place (didn't stop me taking Liara on each expedition off the Normandy thoughComsky159 wrote...

the other 5 characters are optional, which is why edi and james got face time in critical events.

It's like walking around on the Citadel normally is, except EDI follows you and says ****. If she wasn't there then Shepard would be talking to himself like he did at the bottom of the ocean...
But yeah, EDI comes to help sort out the ****-ton of information present in the lab. The DLC probably would've taken a few years ingame time of Shepard sorting through papers without her.

I would take a real person rather than some computer pretending to be human.
And now we're at the heart of it! No, no, not your disdain for synthetic life. That's a topic best argued by stinking hippies. You think Liara is a real person!

Besides, there's nothing wrong with EDI helping out the Citadel investigation bits. She gets some good dialogue and it reminds me of the partners you had during cases in LA Noire. Of course EDI isn't a hard-drinking, chain-smoking, wife-hatin' gumshoe with a sharp suit and a sweet hat, but that will hopefully change when the next DLC costume pack is released...

Seems "coincidental" to me that the first robot squadmate is an attractive robot. And that Joker ends up with her.
To me, I think she is favoured, but only because she is a new character that they want to establish like the others.

Whats funny to me is the Joker's V.A; Seth Green, has his own show called "Robot Chicken", and in one of the sketches a scientist built a female-ish robot that he presented to his colleagues. Their first question: "Can you **** it?"

And I'm very glad they pushed for EDI & Vega to have more content than Liara AGAIN, especially after From Ashes was practically Liara DLC Part 2devSin wrote...
To be truthful, I kind of suspect the only reason it's EDI is because they thought better of thrusting Liara upon us yet again (probably the original proposal had Liara in the role of lab assistant).Comsky159 wrote...
But seriously, she's still nowhere near as bad as Liara.

I'm kind of glad they used EDI, though. Now I feel better about never taking her on missions. In the vanilla game, she never really felt like a squadmate, because I hardly ever saw her. ;-)
I'm still not picking synthesis, though.

That's sweet. They never actually say what happens to EDI or the Geth in the Destroy ending, so I'll just assume that they survived if I had high EMS. I'm not merging them together with organics because that defeats the purpose of peaceful coexistence.devSin wrote...

actually, they still will die. you see, DESTROY option actually kills all systems including Ships's systems that easily, so all ships affected would be dead or Destroyed as they short circuited and blew up.Apocaleepse360 wrote...

only way to prevent that it would have to shut down all systems before the blast.
EDIT:
forgot to add one more line.

EDI is absent from the squad at the end when they put Shepard's name on the memorial wall, and EDI's name is also up on the wall. Its pretty apparent that she's dead. The geth's absence from any of the slides in destroy also indicates that they are no longer there. I think Bioware was trying to be a bit more subtle about it and downplay the whole 'all synthetics die' part of destroy, but everything points to them being dead. Doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me - the device capable of detecting and altering the DNA of everything in the galaxy via 'science' is somehow unable to differentiate between the Reapers and other synthetics - but its pretty clear that EDI and the geth died in the destroy ending.Apocaleepse360 wrote...

Although if you want to headcanon it a bit who am I to say otherwise? I already headcanon the ending quite a bit, so I don't begrudge anyone else doing the same. I'm only pointing out that the game is pretty clear on what has happened to EDI and the geth.

Seriously, EDI is logical choice and it is not a big deal, you don't have to take her on combat missions...

If you didn't notice, the whole thing was more about calculating coordinates and accessing data banks than finding rumors.
