Edi, Liara, and James are the only characters that are in every single ME3 save file.

the other 5 characters are optional, which is why edi and james got face time in critical events.

I really wonder if the people complaining about EDI being there even considered this, or thought about it at all.  Instead they are butthurt about BioWare making use of a character they don't personally like.

And besides, why wouldn't you want a walking quatum computer to help you investigate.  Liara may be the Shadow broker and extremely inteligent, but can't perform the same in all conditions the way EDI can.

I agree with you OP! There should be possibility of different characters being used.

Shepard: Rachni invasion routes... Squaddie, can you add this filter to galaxy search, please?

Tali: *too busy stealing small items to even answer*

Garrus: Ummm, I could calibrate it for you instead....

Liara: Prothean artifact! *_*

James: *kicks the galaxy map*

Yeah, that would work great.

um.. i find it ironic that you don't like her... EDI is not forced on you. you do not know that EDI IS REAPER AI that was born from Rogue VI on Luna in Mass Effect. she was reborn as EDI in ME2. and her secret was revealed to us in the Attack on TIM's base. get your facts straight. EDI is more than just computer. she is Living machine, like Legion.

She isn't actually a Reaper AI. Part of her code is based on fragments of Sovereign, and she had access to some anti-Reaper algorithms or something in ME2, but she isn't actually a Reaper AI. Its not like the ME3 geth where they directly uploaded Reaper code into themselves; EDI is more reverse-engineered from Reaper tech.

I agree with the rest (EDI being a person and all that) but I just wanted to clear that up.

EDI makes a fine Watson here. She can gather this informations faster than everyone else. Sure Liara and Traynor would have been acceptable for this job too, But mnay people feel Liara does get much spotlight already, while Traynor doesn't say a single line in the whole DLC, which probably means her VA was unavailable.
Other squaddies are not good for the job or possibly dead. Making different variants here when there is a squadmate perfectly fitting for the situation would be wasteful. As everyone gets a fine amount of lines, i see no reason to complain.

I wish we had a DLC where we could kill Liara. I'd actually forgive the endings if we got that.

I wouldn't kill her off (Vega's higher on that list for me, guy's useless in the grand scheme of things, atleast Liara had prior experience with Reapers).

Requiring her for Thessia was legitimately annoying though "I have to go!", "Uh yeah, I don't think that's a good idea, I was on Earth when it was attacked and it didn't go so hot for me - I'm still screwed in the head by PTSD-esque episodes and dream sequences... Oh well, nevermind, off to the shuttle we go!".

Next DLC focuses on James, BSN: "Too much James"
Other DLC focuses on VS, BSN: "Too much VS"

Really? EDI is forced on you in Cerberus HQ and in (literally) one DLC. Her presence is totally logical. So please, give it up. There's someone blue who is forced on you for 2-3 games, 2 missions are nowhere around comparision.

But you are forgetting all the favoritism they showed her during ME2! She completely hogged all the dialogue during the planet mining.

But really,

It is just refreshing that it isn't Liara T'soni. Even if I dislike EDI she is better than having Liara force fed down my throat.

Liara and her archaeological knowledge would have been the more logical choice considering the leviathans are an ancient race. This is coming from a Miranda LI person. I don't think they would be shoving her down our throats. But the organic quantum entanglement also was a factor that EDI would have understood a bit better than Liara. I feel the EDI this is Bioware shoving synthesis down our throats.

EDI is the writer's pet. Look at this Leviathan DLC. It's pretty obvious EDI is realy forced on you from the very beginning. I don't get why she has to be with me in Bryson's room. It's so unnecessary. Liara is Shadow Broker and archeologist, so she will be better. Tali knows lots of tech and can hack and gather data. People sometimes say Liara is the writer's pet. I don't think so. EDI is forced on you far more than Liara. All the stupid questions about being human, Illusive Man base, and Leviathan. I hate how she is protected by the plot. She is more unkillable than any squadmate.

EDI is forced on you more than Liara? Are you kidding? I like Liara but thats just dumb.
  • Talking to EDI is optional. Dont want to answer her questions? Dont talk to her.
  • She's forced on Illusive Man base? Duh, she'll be able to get past their firewalls and other objects because she knows their codes. Liara's forced in on Thessia. She also forced in From Ashes. 1<2
  • She is NOT forced in Leviathan, because she can do the job better than Liara and Tali. Liara's an archeologist, but knows nothing of Reaper artifacts. Tali is a tech expert, but what exactly do you need a tech expert in the lab for? You go around and find the clues yourself, EDI is there because she can quantum compute, and work much faster than Tali and Liara can.
More unkillable than any squadmate? Liara cant die until the beam run, because she is protected by the plot. Face it. Liara is the biggest writers pet.

Liara's research was all about Protheans, so no, she would be utterly useless.

Yeah....

Those of you claiming EDI is the writer's pet (and somehow ignoring Liara T'soni) are really grasping at straws.

Is this whole thing because of synthesis?

I liked EDI in ME2, before ME3 I was really hoping that the Alliance would not strip EDI from the Normandy, but well I hate her in ME3 now. I would've preferred EDI to be that orb-shaped AI on the Normandy.. I miss all those "What's this area of the ship?" conversations we had, now all we talk about is questions EDI has about trying to be alive, trying to force Synthesis down my throat.

1st bold. All it does, is add filters to the galaxy map. It does not require a quantum computer to do that. Tali or any other tech could have done it in enough time if BW wanted. What would have been really cool, is if they would have let us choose what tech to help us.

2nd bold. Did I miss something here? EDI can't die until the beam rush either...

But I really don't care, because I blow it straight to hell when I shoot the tube.
