If you're going to play a game based in a fantasy setting, then why not play as a fantasy race?  Unfortunately, many people want to copy+paste themselves into the game and don't even know what it means to roleplay a character, or be in character.  As much as I love playing as dwarven characters, I'd be surprised if Bioware lets us play as anything other than a human again.

If most people play as male characters, then why not also get rid of gender options?  Same about hair and eye color.  Heck, if Bioware really want to conserve resources, then why not just release DA3 as a book and not as a game at all.

The Illusive Man disapproves of this message. :P

Being able to play as a human keeps the game true to the player, who IS human.

Not everyone wants to play as themselves when they pick up a role-playing game. (In fact, many people choose role-playing games specifically for the chance to step into a role outside themselves.) We're human all the time, but we can't be a fantasy race. That's part of the beauty of role-playing fantasy games that give us the chance to role-play fantasy races.

You're missing out on a lot of great moments/content then.

No I'm not. I played through all of the origins and I liked the Human Noble best, so I played through the game 3 or 4 times as a Human Noble. I didn't even beat the game as a Human Mage, and the farthest I got with a non-human was the elven mage just finishing Lothering. I just liked the Human Noble story, especially when it connected back into the main plot near the end.

So what if some people want to play as idealized fantasy versions of themselves? If that's what they have fun doing, then good for them. I'm all for multiple playable races even though I never play as them, because I know how much other people love them. It's just not my thing, but I understand.

I wonder how many people actively chose to be human, and how many simply went with the default option. I think that if DA3 is going to do telemetry like this, they should randomize the option that starts selected and the order they're listed in to get better data.

80-85% played human

The most popular Origins were Human Noble/ Human Mage then the elves, and then dwarves.

I played all the races....

I prefer the dwarf commoner to Adeucan and I like city elves better than the Dalish.

They simply are not going to waste resources on multiple races. It sucks but its the way it is.

This doesn't really respond to what I said, though. I don't question that most players had a human Warden, my question is why. It's entirely possible that the number of players who actually feel strongly about being human is much lower.

I never play human if I have something more exotic to choose from, if truth be told, but Iwould like to have options.

Same here. I can't get enough of Sith purebloods in SWtOR for example :D

I don't really care about race. My favorite warden was a Surana, followed by a human noble (male or female). I prefered city to dalish elves but both were about equivalent to me (since they were rogue/warrior only). I couldn't get into the dwarves, was only able to get an Aeducan through Orzammar (did it first before any of the treaty quests), and the attitudes of a lot of dwarf players on the boards here really killed any chance I'd enjoy playing one.

So, for those who do want something different for DA3, I don't mind if there are options for them to pick from (elf, dwarf or even kossith), but I'm just as happy playing a human. Not being an elf or dwarf didn't kill DA2 for me, it won't kill DA3 either if I am forced to play as human (or any of the other races).

My toughts exactly. I am simply incapable of getting through Ostagar with a non-human.
I'm all for having different races available for those who want it but if there can be only one option, I hope it's a human.

That is such a foreign concept to me. I love experiencing a world beyond my own, putting myself in the shoes of people who can experience the world differently than I do. I usually play as male characters for that reason (I am female) as well as almost always playing non-humans and only playing humans when I've done everything else. Just so I can see everything. People who "can't identify" with the opposite sex or a different race...I just don't understand.

. I'm much the same, though I am a male that often creates female characters.  That's partly because whenever I create a male character I find myself role playing as myself rather than the character without even meaning to.

At any rate, Hawke hit my quota for humans, so I really hope I can be something else in Dragon Age 3.

Hate to break it to you but according to research...80% played humans in Origins.

They want the game to SELL. I know that sucks but thats the way it is.

80% played male shep in ME....Image IPB

Which I find odd because about 90% of the art and fan created stuff on the internet involves FemShep...:?

I genrally do not think Bioware will include again a multiple race option, but if they were, ti should be Human or Kossith, the customisation of a Kossith will be imense.

Well, yeah. Men like to draw boobs, and women find Femshep an awesome character. Therefore, loads of Femshep art.

How on earth could that be calculated?

Yeah, I played male Shep in ME1. Once. I played four unique femSheps in ME1.

I did one import in ME2 of male Shep. I did 10 imports in ME2 of femShep.

So technically, I did play male Shep in ME1. But I actually played femShep MORE. How does that scenario fit into that "statistic"?

Do you have a link?

Oh, heck, nevermind. We're talking DA2 here. How did I wander into this thread?

That 80% played men in ME is irrelevant unless you were somehow only allowed one playthrough. I'll bet most of that 80% also did Femshep runs.
Regardless, 99.9% of all statistics are pulled out of people's hindquarters. Including this one. Image IPB

That's because the majority of fan art and fiction is being created by females, who are more likely to play FemShep.

Yes, like being able to say to Isolde: 'It's because I'm a dwarf, isn't it?' and hearing her stammer and nervously deny it.

Well... I'm pretty sure these statistics also say barely half of people (as in, unique accounts, not individual characters) even finish the game once, much less do multiple runs. And of the ones who do finish once, most only finish the once.

Forumites talk about multiple run throughs like it's a common thing because it's something many of us actually do, but we do not seem to be a representative sample.

It's true. They collect a *lot* of data from telemetry. They can tell how many players have finished the game, how many people have installed the game, how many completions, etc.

Being Sith pureblood is amazing, but it was a little odd when I was told my race was useless and dieing right before a flashpoint.

I agree so much. I don't hate playing as a human. But it was SO much more fun playing as an elf( city elf was brilliantly well done imo). It would be so much cooler to play as something other then a human for a change.
