Humans will always be an option, as many players can better relate to them, being mostly humans themselves. Personally, I'd rather play as a human, and I've never finished DAO with a non-human.

You're missing out on a lot of great moments/content then.

Yes, like being able to say to Isolde: 'It's because I'm a dwarf, isn't it?' and hearing her stammer and nervously deny it.

As an elf, you can learn the real reason Leliana likes nice shoes: so it tastes better when she puts her foot in her mouth.

Same here. I can't get enough of Sith purebloods in SWtOR for example :D

Being Sith pureblood is amazing, but it was a little odd when I was told my race was useless and dieing right before a flashpoint.

Whaaaat?! Who said that? I would kill them if I wasn't 100% LS  >:(

I don't really mind being a human. Something I'd like to see if we are not able to choose a race is origin stories like in Mass Effect with the Earth born, spacer and colonist backgrounds.

I don't care if I don't get to choose a race...

...as long as this race is human.

Yes, I'll join the boring human-centric crowd here. It doesn't matter what kind of RPG, I usually end up having a human main char. sometimes the occasional half-elf or elf thrown in, but other "exotic" races like dwarves, Qunari, or Argonians and god beware (!) Kahjit are of no interest to me at all

I simply cannot relate to these kind of races, they are no fun for me to think myself into. I like to be confronted by different cultures/races and theor concepts in games or books, but preferably through the eyes of a member of my own species.

But I know at least on most forums of any game this opinion is most likely the minority (or silent majority?). And that's okay. But I really don't think that if they make a "one race only" game it will be anything but human. Maybe elf, but surely never dwarf-only or qunari-only or Argonian-only etc. Never  going to happen. And I am glad for this, but of course multi-race-options are okay for me too, they don't hurt me after all Image IPB

I hope they let us play as elves and dwarves next time. Or even better, include qunari as an option. Would love to play as a kick ass female qunari rogue

80% played male shep in ME....Image IPB

How on earth could that be calculated?

Yeah, I played male Shep in ME1. Once. I played four unique femSheps in ME1.

I did one import in ME2 of male Shep. I did 10 imports in ME2 of femShep.

So technically, I did play male Shep in ME1. But I actually played femShep MORE. How does that scenario fit into that "statistic"?

Do you have a link?

Oh, heck, nevermind. We're talking DA2 here. How did I wander into this thread?

That info posted is not accurate. Its probably 30% or more

It was more than that. Theres info out there and I will find it and post links when I do.

And in ME3 I bet it was even more

No. If there's no option I want to be a human. I never play dwarves and the new elves are ugly. Being forced to play a human is boring I know. But at least with a human, there is no risk that I could be unhappy.

As long as there are other choices along with the option of being a human its fair.

I finished the game as mage, city elf, dwarf commoner and human.......

I really can't stand the Dwarf noble origin but I loved the commoner origin, so it was not about about hating dwarves.

But that said, I enjoy playing humans as well.

Taking the 80% played Human in Origins feedback and saying that was the reason the game was liked and sold well is just wrong. Because I could also say 100% played Human in DA2 and the game sold poorly and was disliked so Human was the problem.

If you think a game where you have no choice to play a human would sell, you are sorely mistaken.

DA:2 did not do as well because it was a rushed, half finished game.

If I am forced to play something that looks like Fenris or any other DA2 elf, I am not buying DA3. simple as that. Pokemon isn`t for me.

Same, all the other ones bored the crap out of me. Short-fat dwarf, scrawny elf or a jacked human? Not a hard decision.

Humans are so boring. The human Noble origin didn't sit right with me at all. If felt just...stupid.

How about a mage that can change his or her form to any race because he or she is in disguise.

For reasons of hiding as an assassin or spy?
And the danger that comes with staying in that state too long...or all the possible complexities of effects on a relationship(s)?

I don't want to be forced to play one specific race, honestly. That was the problem I had with DA2.

I will say though, that being able to play as a Dwarf Noble was the impetus for me playing all the way through DAO -- I never played a game where I could be a female dwarf character and it added a lot to the experience.

I would love to see that option back, even though it seems unlikely.

At least give us two species at least. Better replay value.

Ideally we'd get to pick what race we want to play, but if not then chances are it'll be human again.

I wouldn't mind playing as an Elf, but hopefully they'll pretty them up a bit, cos I'm absolutely rubbish at creating characters that don't look like a Lovecraftian monstrosities, so I can only imagine any Elf character I make will end up looking like something out of a 70's B-movie horror. :-S

BioWare even made fun of it in-game using every cliche possible including "I have a bad feeling about this." Ser Gilmore even says "this sounds like the start of every bad adventure tale my grandfather ever told."

It can't be Dwarf. They can't be mages.
I would like an Elf though.
I wouldn't mind a human coming back for III though. With the game being set in Orlais, a human just fits better into the setting.
I think an Elf might be better suited to an Elven related storyline.
Kossith are the main race of the Qunari, right? If we play them it shoud be during the big invasion Sten implied was coming soon.
Ideally though, I'd rather Bioware just let us choose Origins again. Saints Row put the effort in for 6 (7 if you count Zombie) voice actors, why can't Bioware for Dragon Age?
Ultimately I expect it to be human though. And I'm cool with that. For now.

I would love to play as different races. It adds replayability to the game like how people would react to a mage human as opposed to a city elf.
