Thought I would post a note about our project to bring BG2 into 3D and show the progress. Nearly the entire city is finished, and now our cinematic designer DahliaLynn has finished the opening cutscene we are all familiar with where you emerge from Irenicus' Dungeon and see him in action for the first time.

You can find more information on the project here:

Looking good. But the tunnel sequence could be a tad darker.

If you ask me that is pretty perfect (except the confusing music).

Re: the music, apparently I made a mistake, and failed to associate the final music mix with the actual uploaded YouTube video. I've made a few changes to make it flow better and that version will likely end up being a part of the actual mod.

Fantastic work, that is a professional grade cutscene. Also great work on creating the original party members and Irenicus.

Irenicus and Jaheira look fantastic. Minsc (Watch it - I'm huge) needs to be a bit larger imo and Imoen looks a bit green - but I'm nitpicking. Amazing interpretation and matching up of narration to actions at the start.

Minsc needs to be wider. I always thought of him as a bit chubby. You know, not the bodybuilding kind of guy but a strongman kind of guy heh.
Its amazing btw, the video. Seriously, its like the gods smiled on us, 14 years after bg1 and 12 years after bg2, things are more alive then ever. 3d mods, complete mods, even bg3 is not out of the question. It sure is a great time to be !

This is an absolutely stunning cutscene. Unlike most nitpicky people here, i'm not afraid to say that this is a very well done spin on the intro to chapter 1/2. Even more when considering the clever use of the voice files that were present and exceptional utilization of the soundtrack. Whoever animated and cinematographed this is very very good at it. We really get a feel that Irenicus is bad as hell and any stiffness that might be, isn't breaking any immersion at all.

If only there was a mod to replace the BG2 cutscenes with movies from BG2 Redux. That would be sweet (albeit confusing).
Also would help since the music during the original scene in BG2 is broken in my game (i remember first times i played it would play the promenade battle music properly... you know the Dun duuuuuun dununununuuuuuun....)

That cutscene was great, and being a fan of cities, I liked how the background showed the Promenade to be very urban.

I have a question about this cutscene.

Didn't Irenicus only kill four of the Cowled Wizards?

I could swear in this cut scene he kills 5. lol.

Yep, in the original it's 4, only in mine he kills 7 :P  Oh well.

I only ask because in a later cut scene when he is taken with Imoen to the Government district for judgement the Head Cowled Wizard says to the Cowled Wizards who arrested him "Why was he not gagged? Did he not slay four of you?"

So slaying more than four in the cutscene may be a little jarring...

But otherwise its awesome.

In that case, that would definitely be grounds for a redesign. Either that or change the head wizard's line in the game.

Suppose you manage to finish Baldur's Gate II Redux.

Wouldn't that module be illegal?

(guessing you've heard that question more than once, but I'm curious)

I think it's illegal if it was being sold; but then again being a free mod other people could steal it and make profit from it <_<

Not sure, myself.

Module 1 is already released for well over a year. They can certainly C&D us at any time I suppose, but they (Atari,WotC) have generally left modders alone with regards to BG/BG2. To suddenly change their position might not be good PR for them. And if they did, hmmm... then I dont think it would bode well for the rest of the modding community.

But to answer your question: The module has an installer that requires a valid BG2 install on your computer and also uses WeiDU coding to pull from a valid install. so if you just try to run the next module without having already installed a valid version of BG2, then you wont get to play it. so we are trying very hard to make sure that people have purchased the original.

@DahliaLynn

It's cos Irenicus is basically the most awesome villian in video game history IMO. Better even than Kefka.

EA/BioWare should cancel DA3 (that ship has already sunken anyway), hire these modders and give them funds to remake the entire BG2 game in the DA:O engine.

It would assuredly sell more than DA:O & DA2 combined anyway.

Difficulty there being that this is one of the lines that's actually voiced, so unless a hidden line exists in the code with another number, you'd need to either strip out his speech entirely (which would look strange, because all of the end of act cutscenes are fully voiced for all characters), or have someone re-record it.
