I believe the last time they used cutting edge tech it took two years, millions of credits and some crazy experimental research. Be people behind that research got killed during the start of ME2, galaxy's kinda lacking in resources at the moment too, galactic wars tend to do that.
I bet it was stem cell research.
A million babies were killed to resurrect Shepard. Canon.

I always thought he was seen breathing on earth.
If he was on earth, ground teams could scan and easily find him.
If he was on the citadel, it's likely a rescue ship would be sent ASAP, because SOMEONE had to fire the crucible and hackett knew that Shepard and Anderson had made it aboard.

It's been confirmed, via twitter if memory serves, that Shep's still on what's left of the Citadel. Keep in mind that the Normandy crash landed though, other ships were likely effected in a similar manner. Some time had to go to getting the engines working. And then there's the time it'll take to get back and look trhough the rubble. Slim window.Xenharmonic wrote...

In a year's time (or maybe later) if Bioware make another Mass Effect game, hopefully a sequel, they might outright reveal what happens in high EMS destroy.
As I said, awesome series.
See you later guys im gonna go play some Mass Effect (second playthrough).
I just met the Asari consort for the first time and im going to help her with a problem as I visit Chora's Den.

but to the point of the thread, a better indication of Shep's alive in "destroy" other than half a breath would have been nice.

They were able to avoid the unpleasant implications of the Normandy crashing on teh jungle world buy showing the ship repaired and taking off.
Yet they couldn't be bothered to avoid teh unpleasant implications of Shepard being trapped on the Citadel by showing Shep getting rescued, or leaving under his/her own power?

i have to agree with jamie on this one it would have been better to just have her drawing breath and try to get up or communicate with someone in her area, but at least we know if they do dlc for after ending the dlc{not likely} depending on what you choose i would love to see what it would take to show that shepard is "alive" as a Ai and or actually alive breathing some where in a hospital...

In my headcannon, the scene stops after Anderson & Shepard successfully open the doors of the Citadel...after which, the crucible fires and destroys the reapers, but nothing else.
Flashes to hospital with the crew surrounding Shep's bed.
Fades.
Later, in the Normandy, Shep & LI put Anderson's plate on the wall together, with the crew bowing their heads.
Finally, Admiral Hackett buzzes Shepard with an order.. The Normandy team is needed to investigate this and that, to figure out what actually caused the invasion. Maybe there's something referenced about how they've found some evidence in the reaper remains that points toward the reapers absorbing dark energy. Hackett out.
Game over. Continued in ME4!!!

I keep trying to reimagine How it should have been. Ash, hesitating to put the name on the memorial, Garrus, James, Traynor all looking sad. And then they hear over the intercom "Fifth Fleet to Normandy, we found SHepard. He's alive!" And the Normandy takes off.
Or Shepard waking up in a hospital, all bandaged up and tubes sticking out of him, hooked up to monitoring equipment. He looks over, and there's a smiling Ash, who takes Shep's hand and says "You got it done, Skipper. Welcome home"
After everything Shepard saw, heard, and did in those final moments of the game, I really needed a brighter future for Shep than a pile of rocks and one breath...[/quote]
