I knew what event you were talking about, but I really don't see that as a betrayal by Leliana.

If anything, it's your Warden betraying...well, everyone...by defiling the sacred ashes. Leliana reacted and retaliated. Just like Wynne did. And the guardian.  So I guess you could call it a reciprocal betrayal, but that's just splitting hairs.

Taking into account how each one feels about Andraste, how else could they react? To me, it's warranted and expected.

The nerve of her not approving you defiling a religion just so you could get in good with a bunch of idiots. Who would have thought the most religious person in your party would take it so personally despite multiple comments telling you such before then.

Yep the nerve of her. Shoulda stayed dead once killed.

Yeah!! The nerve of Sten for believing in the Qun, or Wynne for defending the Ashes, or Alistair for believing in the Maker, or Oghren for believing in those silly Ancestors.. Damn them for having a personality completely opposite to mine!

Yeah!

You do that, Spicen, and I'll be sure to do the same if Morrigan shows up alive too(not that I hate the character, quite the opposite, but simply to prove a point like you seem determined to do). We can have a laugh together, see you! ;)<3

I don't really see the Warden betraying anyone directly.  Certainly they're being disrespectful towards the religion of 3 of the characters, and one could argue just being downright dickish in what they're doing, but it's not really a betrayal.  This isn't exactly handing Isabela over to the Qunari.

Leliana's actions are a betrayal, technically speaking.  She's taken up arms against her friends and the decision of the leader she's agreed to folow.  However I honestly can't fault her for it.  We all have lines we draw in the sand, lines we won't cross ourselves or tolerate our friends to do so, no matter how long we've known them or how deeply we care.  This is just Leliana's line (and Wynne's).  It actually makes me respect Leliana a lot that she believes in something so strongly that she'd stand against someone who is, for all intents and purposes, death incarnate to stop something she believes is wrong.

Having said that I only defiled the Ashes once to get the spec (that I never use so that was worthwhile) and I immediately reloaded.  Mainly because I wanted to kill the dragon.

The problems with defiling the ashes aren't just religious, either. You have also destroyed a substance which has the potential to save hundreds of lives in order to get a bit of power from a dragon cult. Honestly, I think taking extra pinches of the ashes would help you more.

Well, I suppose you don't necessarily know that the ashes actually cure anything, but if you don't accept that part, it doesn't make much sense to even go on the quest.

Anybody notice that the ME3 Femshep has some similarities to Leliana? Red hair, green eyes, lethal and potentially bisexual chick.

Yay inspiration.

Don't understand why so many haters. I didn't like Leliana when I played DAO first, thought she was kind of poor crazy girl, fanatic and visionary, with an horrible accent.

But then I had more playthroughts, I've seen her in the DA2's Cameo... appreciated her background story in the "Song" DLC, appreciated the "In Uthenera" Cutscene and Song... and kept listening to it for ages.

Now I am totally in love for her, she is an amazing character. Intelligent and so sweet... I never romanced her but I plan to do it in my next game...

And I hope she will be in DA3's Party as a Seeker... I tell you more, I'd like her to be in party and tell the story herself as Varric did in DA2, as she is a bard.

Hey, almost exactly my feelings! At first I truly despised her, as I have problems with "religious" fanatics, and she seemed like one of that type...

But soon I really appreciated her. She is intelligent, entertaining, has a shady and diverse background. And yes, her song-performance was a true highlight for me. It came as such a surprise for me, a pleasant one. It made DAO feel so much more like a fantasy-story being told and experienced to me than just a mere game about slaughtering darkspawn-hordes...like in Lord of the rings, when some characters sing...it was a wonderfully emotional sequence...

And her accent is sexy. I prefer to play female characters, and tried a romance once but somehow that doesn't work out for me. I prefer to see in Leliana a true friend to my protagonist. Someone she can talk about Alistair and shoes and the burden of being a warden. She is so perfect in that role for me....

All praise for Leliana...so much cooler than Morrigan, and even better looking (at least with certain mods applied)

Leliana is...special.  She's lovely, but I especially admire her courage (particularly, as mentioned, given the events ofLeliana's Song), skill and heart.  In her beliefs, whatever one may think of them, she talks the talk and walks the walk.  I like that she keeps secrets and has her own agenda and life.
I know my Tabris Warden is all caramel pudding over his "Tinúviel" Image IPB

Right, you're this bloke, aren't you? Or as I like to say, "that other male City Elf Warden rogue who romanced Leliana."

I'll point out that my female city elf warden rogue romanced Leliana ...(after a quick fling with Zev but no chemistry/romance there...ultimately it had to be Leliana, for her beauty, her voice, her singing, her quirks, pudding...)

Yeah, a female city elf rogue. Everybody picks that. Sorry, you're just too mainstream to hang out with me and WardenWade.

She only gets in a huff about it if she's actually present though. If you leave her at the camp, all it takes is a persuade check and a shiny necklace to make her forget all about it. Her feelings for Andraste can't be that deep.

It has to do with the religious organization; Merrill is religious, too, and she's awesome. The Andrastian Chantry is a vile organization that marched on the Dales and commits slavery against mages. I hated the developers forcing Hawke to be religiously Andrastian, and I can see people hating Leliana for supporting this organization if they find it repellant. I think (for some) it also has to do with her depiction in "Faith" as an anti-mage, incompetent agent of the Divine.

I never understood why people keep labelling her as anti-mage during the Faith cameo. She was just warning that if the mages rebelled aganist the Templar it would cause an Exalted March. Was the statement delivered poorly? Yes. Does it mean she's anti-mage? No. If she started ranting how all mages are abominations in the eyes of the Maker and should be exterminated, then yes you can label her as such.

Leliana has an extremely different view on worshiping the Maker. In her eyes,  the maker loves everyone and still watches over them. She even seems to be on friendly terms with....

1. Wynne, a mage.

2. The Warden, a possible mage and lover.

3.Sten, a Qunari.

Even in that book David Gaider wrote that prequels Dragon Age 3, she helps the mages fight against the templar. It would make no sense for Leliana to fight against the mage unless they were with the Tevinter or crazed blood mages.

Leliana's attack in the Gauntlet is weird. Leliana is supposed to be a persuasive bard but she can't be bothered to make an argument for not defiling the Ashes but rather wait till it's done and then pick up her daggers? It makes no sense to me. It would be one thing if she made it clear she would not accept and intended to fight you to the death if you tried to pour blood into the ashes before you did it. I would be perfectly fine with that. It's a whole other thing to start killing people when the deed is already done. As a general rule it's wrong to throw fits of vengance and in this case when the person you are attacking is doing work you yourself admit is very important it's most definitely so. It's especially glaring if Alistair is there awell as she sets out to kill him too which would wipe out Ferelden's Grey Wardens.

Well, she does voice her disapproval at working with the cultists. I suppose she just couldn't conceive you actually going through with it.

Keep in mind, also, that the reason Grey Wardens are needed to dispel the Blight are known only to Grey Wardens. Conceivably, Leliana could kill you, take your treaties and then go enforce them herself.

Yes she voices disapproval but she's a long way of from making it clear she intends to fight to the death over it and as I recall she mostly just says she's against it not really making an argument for why it would be beneficial for you not to do it. What I would like to see is her call out as you set out to pour the blood and make a case against it and then fight you if you are not persuaded. As for her not conceiving you could go through with it pending on the Warden that can make sense but if your Warden is say a dalish that likes to stick it to the human establishment she should realize the ashes are in peril and scrounge up some pragmatic arguments against it.
