 Hello~

I am having a very strange issue with DAO UE. I bought it a few months ago as Digital Download via Amazon and installed it on a computer running Win 7, just fine. No problems whatsoever, and all my DLC was there and playable.

I since have changed computers, and am now on an older laptop running Windows Vista; I installed DAO UE, also seemingly with no problem.

Loading up the game, I run into the first two issues: An XML error and a News Error (links to images). Nothing seems to happen if I ignore them, however, and the Launcher opens just fine.

The next problems occur trying to access DLC information: I was able to get the DLC to show up in the "Downloading" middle tab after a few tries with the DAOUpdater, but that presented a new problem:

The DLC will not install.

None of them. They download just fine, they extract just fine. But when it comes to installing, it just fails. It doesn't matter what DLC I try, I just can't.

Additionally, all the DLC version requirements are RED. Whether it's version 1.0 (which I assume is the game, unpatched) or 1.04 (which is what came with DAO UE), it's red -- like the game doesn't recognise that I have the patch in.

Awakening is also nowhere to be found in the "Other Campaigns" tab (it's grayed out), and I did attempt to fix the addin file (no results).

I tried downloading patch 1.05, but that did nothing to fix the issue. I made sure that the beta "fix" .exe ran (it came up with no issues), that the DAOUpdater is running in services and set to automatic / is pointing at the right file.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled from fresh downloads three times now. I've set it to run as an administrator, turned off my firewall.

I'm not sure what information will be relevant, but here is stuff about my computer:
  • OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0
  • Direct X: 11
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5800 @ 2.0 GHz
If I need to add any other information, please let me know.

EDIT: I have also contacted EA Live Chat via Origin, and they were absolutely no help. The rep told me to install the patch (despite me saying I already did), and to uninstall/reinstall, and that those were my only two options. I'm hoping someone here would be a little bit more knowledgeable.

I'm not sure off the top of my head what will be causing this. I can still run DA:O on an old Vista 32-bit system whose only upgrade was a half-decent PSU and GPU.

It *might* still be an OS issue though. What build do you have? Platform and SP updated Vista is a fine OS and 99% as good as Win7.

I suspect your first installation was corrupted, and subsequent installations are not fixing the problem. Something is not getting removed and thus the corruption is allowed to propagate. There may also be an issue with your installation of Vista, as Shins suggests. So I would suggest:

Uninstall the game completely.
Uninstall whatever client Amazon uses to manage digital downloads.
Reboot
Use a program like CCleaner to clear out lingering registry keys.
Reboot
Do a full Windows Update.
Reinstall the digital download client (or use EA's Origins instead)
Reinstall DA:O UE - do not launch.
Reboot
Apply patch 1.05
Reboot
Launch the game and log in. Your DLC should authorize.

Sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you! I wanted to thank you both for your assistance. I think RaenImrahl was correct, that my original installation was corrupted. I ran CCleaner and oh my goodness, about 60% of the registry errors were DAO related!

I have everything now, and everything downloaded even before I figured out my resolution settings. Thank you so much! EA needs people in their support that can help like this, imo. You're doing a bang up job.
