ok.. my first play, i have played DAO 4-5 times now..  but this is my first DAII  play..

I bought the 3 content DLC, and have black emporium (came with disk)

that said, I'm currious if there are quests i should save for later, or ones i should do early..  perhaps there are some hatrder to find quests i should look out for..   (don't tell me what it is, but perhaps an area i could look out for something unique)

for example, In DAO, i could say,  goto mage tower first, then redcliff, elves, denerum, dwarves..  check the pearl tavern for a unique mission..

so anything like that in DAII

Well you need to meet Anders before you meet Isabela. I think I missed Isabela my first playthrough.

DA2 is divided into Acts.

Consider that Side Quest must ALWAYS be concluded before Act ending, or they will remain uncompleted.

So I suggest you search and accomplish every side quest before going on with the Main Ones, even if as you complete one stage of the Main, more Side Quest are added.

My Tip is, just be sure to have visited every single location before proceeding the Main Quest, and also check more than once every single trader, as most of them have Emprovements for your companions you may not find anymore proceeding from Act to Act.

One more thing... you played DAO 4/5 times, so I assume you really like it.

Be prepared... do not expect DA2 to be the sequel you expected...

I would suggest doing one quest at a time, well for main and secondary and companion quests so the way the story is told isn't overly jumbled. It makes following the game's story much more immersive.

Whatever happens, do not return the dwarf's pantaloons.

I agree with other posters here - make sure you do any side quests first, then companion quests, then do all of the Main quests straight in a row. The order you do the main quests does not matter (and, in many cases, you can't do more than one or two main quests at any given time, as the next one opens up as others are completed).

Best of luck.

This is a minor quest.  There's nothing wrong with it.  Or what the hay!Image IPB

Varric is awesome and the best rogue in game (aside from yourself of course if you are a rogue) and Merril can have as many sustains as possible when you make her a blood mage so becomes quite useful. Destroy the tomes

Black Emporium has +gold drop chance runes. Equip them on all your gear, make tons of gold for potions and gear

thank you very much about the act/side quest tip... that will be huge :)

so far i'm really enjoying it...  though the combat is a bit to arcade like in compairison to DAO.    I will say i really like the way you build warriors in compairison though.  seems a lot more flexible, vrs, every sheild warrior playing the same way in the first.

I have two basic tips:
(1) Don't buy any gear or anything in Act 1
(2) There is a system called friendship and rivalry and it affects how companions react to you. Try to aim to max either friendship OR rivalry with any given follower as you play. Rivalry is NOT bad, so don't worry about pushing someone in that direction.

great advice already given. The game does a good job of walking you through where to go, missions open up at different times so you'll be visiting the same areas multiple times for different reasons.
have fun!

dont bother making potions until later in the game. The game will drop potions for you until you have reached a certain number of them depending on which difficulty you are playing on. This allows you to sell extra potions that you do not need or use to generate extra gold. So instead of wasting coin, you're generating it.

I would suggest you sell all but 2 health/mana potions through act 1 and keep 1 first aid potion through act 2. Sell as often as you can to generate the most coin. The potion drops will be in addition to a monsters normal random drop %. It will not affect the loot or coin dropped by any killed enemy.

most enemy drops are a random chance to drop and what they drop will be random for the most part as well.

If you have a mage, I would suggest buying a staff from the vendor in the sewers in the docks during nightime at minimum in act 1.  This staff is well worth the investment.

Other vendors you should be aware of are the trinketmonger in lowtown as every time you enter a zone each merchant has a number of random items that will be generated with unique stats dependant on your level, as this vendor generates 2 random staffs each load of the zone.  Early on it would be wise to invest in some small coin to improve your mage's effectiveness by visiting this vender for cold or fire staves and again later at lvl 11 or higher for a 2nd cold staff.

Lots of great advice here. A few other points:

Investing in Tomes of Technique (http://dragonage.wik...me_of_Technique) is (in my experience) a worthwhile expense, as these puppies will give you an extra talent point, which does come in very handy. That being said, I would not purchase any Greater Tomes of the Mortal Vessel (http://dragonage.wik..._(Dragon_Age_II)), they just cost too much for a measly two extra attribute points. Hope that helps!
