I have a Macbook pro, and am running windows 7 on windows parallels.
I have updated Direct X, windows update, and the dragon age patch.
Upon attempting to play the game, I receive the following message:
"This program has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way"
This is pretty frustrating, so I am hoping someone with a similar configuration has some suggestions.

I get the exact same error. I have Windows Vista 32 bit and when i either click the configuration or play button, i get a Runtime Error. The executable it's gets it on is "DAOriginsConfig.exe."
It say "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." and then goes on to tell me to contact support.
Addendum:
I was able to solve this problem by going into the applications properties and clicking on the "Run as Administrator" button.
To get to this application, click on your START button, All Programs, Games, Games Explorer. Right click on the game icon and select "Customize". Click "Edit" and then on the Compatibility Tab. Under "Run as Administor", make sure the button is checked and click OK.
Keep in mind this is for Windows Vista.

I also could not find a "Run as Administrator" option, but I got it working. Parallels has options to redirect "My Documents", "My Music", etc, to the Mac folders. Disable the "My Documents" redirect and it starts fine. Slow but I think playable.

(win. 7) I have mine set to run as admin yet still error out. Windows diagnostic basically says "I don't know what's wrong but I'll let you know if I figure it out." Thanks windows but I got this. set compatabilty to run as if windows vista and voila.
