Odd behavior: About one out of 3 times I attempt to go up a set of stairs, I get stuck at the top. Mouse navigation, WASD, whatever - I just hit the top step and can't pass until I go to the bottom (or near the bottom) and come back up again. Happens with main char and companions both.

Also, if I halt the party and send one ahead (Stealthed Zev, for example) then un-halt (is that a word?), everyone except Morrigan catches up, while she just stands there until I take manual control or bring everyone else back within melee range again. So not actually stairs related, but I got on a roll complaining :P

In most cases, I use it if it is likely that an upcoming area will have a nasty ambush...

Halt party, stealthed rogue goes in first, gets behind one of the ambushing spellcasters or high-damage lieutenants - with good weps and high critical / backstab percentage, you can usually get them to 40% health or less right off the bat.

Now that the bad guys have discovered your rogue, they will surround him. Un-halt your party and have the rouge whirlwind and give some amount of damage to everyone surrounding him. If you time it just right, your remaining party comes running in just in time to do the clean-up and either heal or revive your rogue (who gets yet another backstab opportunity)...

But of course, that's just one possible play style - but it sure is more satisfying to be the one getting the drop on the other guys!

It's not just stealth. There's a tendency to get stuck at the tops of staircases, steps (like those at the entrance to Owain's storehouse) and similar "bumps" on each end of bridges. Walking breaks down at these places though running typically only suffers on staircases. Stealth in walk mode suffers just as walking but since it switches to run mode when enemies are near there isn't as much trouble.

As a solo player I find stealth to be quite useful. Yes, the AI breaks down if there are non-stealthed party members along, even if they're parked well behind. That's part of the reason I started playing solo.

People could ask what the point of walking is, but I like it sometimes. Bioware probably included it for use in cutscenes and didn't bother debugging it for player use.
