When it comes to the final duel, choosing Dog as the champion triggers Eamon to say "I'm afraid we can't leave the fate of all Ferelden up to your dog. Anyone with a leftover ham bone could buy his allegiance." Now, this sounds completely unfair to a creature which chooses it's master(imprinting) and remains loyal to him/her all throughout it's life. In addition to that, in the DA lore, it's mentioned that they understand the human(oid) tongue.
So, though it can be understood that the final duel should be fought by a human or a humanoid member from the warden's party, it just seems unfair to reject off Dog because of the reason Eamon mentions. Anyone here agree with me?

I absolutely agree with you. I'd like to see Eamon take Dog on in a one on one, and see if that changes his mind a little.

Word. I've always wondered why a Fereldan Mabari isn't acceptable to Eamon, yet an Orlesian bard, a Qunari warrior, and an Antivan Crow are.
Seriously. Consistency, people! Maybe the Mabari needs to nip Eamon on the tonker to make him see the light...

It's still funny to watch Eamon reject the dog. He's probably being unfair, but that doesn't make it less fun to watch the dog's hopes being crushed.

If you haven't already, be sure to have Sten and Doggy rescue the Warden from Fort Drakon. So much win. I'd rank it up there with the 'cookies' incident.

"I am a giant with a war dog. Either I am making a delivery, or I am attacking your fort. Hope for the former."
"Maker save us! We're under attack by giants!"

I suspect the real reason Dog can't fight the duel is because he can't circle Loghain in the same way that the Warden or his other bipedal companions can in the cutscene that precedes the fight. Dogs can't walk sideways.
To be fair to Eamon, Dog is kind of a glutton.

Every dog is a glutton in front of it's master, that doesn't make it any less loyal. A dog never betrays it's master, no matter what.
