It could be done.
I suspect that a game expansion or a particularly long DLC, (proportionally more expensive), could be successful.
Imagine an expansion/DLC were we see the Shepard’s companions adventurous return to earth, with the bonus of finally finding what happened to their famous commander upon their return, (and having a brief reunion, if she was still alive):
“Follow the crew of the Normandy in their last, epic, journey.Play as Liara, or Garrus, in an electrifying adventure, as the Normandy traverses the dangerous Hades nebula in their way back to Earth. Learn how they discover Shepard’s fate. Battle the mysterious and vicious <insert cool & alien name> and uncover their terrible secret. “
I like the idea of getting to play as the crew finding their way back to civilization.
However-
I'd like to see the people who pulled the trigger on ME3's final direction barred from ever influencing the ME universe in any capacity ever again. I'm all for second chances, as ME3 was enthralling from begining to almost end, but for nobody to step up and even acknowledge a problem is disheartening.
Interestingly, after ME2 I was part of the group who was left pretty unsatisfied with how Liara was handled in that game. As time went on I wrote Bioware off for not caring what the fans think. Then they dropped the LofSB DLC on my face and my faith in the team was restored... in full. That sense of "Well damn, they get it." carried through all the ME2 DLC and into ME3 allllll the way to the end. As I said before, I NEVER expected this.
I kinda have to just sit back and chuckle at it all.
