Why do people hate Mass Effect 2?

The Reapers are basically using the Collectors, which are Prothean husks, to create a human-based Reaper, like they did with every species.
Why they did this is something that Mass Effect 3 should have answered, but it didn't, although there could be many reasons, such as repeating Saren's plan, or having less to do when they invasion begins, or to weaken humanity, one of the galaxy's most powerful species, since the other species were weakened in Sovereign's attack. The characters were great, their conversations and backstory were very detailed, and all in all, I could say this game had only 3 basic flaws:
1) Lack of RPG features
2) Not enough squad banter (explained by the fact that the squad is pretty big, but still annoying)
3) Probing planets for minerals
Really, why does everyone now seem to dislike ME2 more than they did ME3?

Most decisions from Mass Effect 2 don't even really matter in ME3. Even the supposedly biggest decision (the Human Reaper Larvae) is thrown out of the window.
Too many squadmates (Jacob is pretty lame and even in ME3 he's a jerk to romance FemShep). But the priiiiize.

Then why do you blame Mass Effect 2? It's ME3 that made ME2 pointless and a "giant side quest".

I actually liked ME2.
Still, it remains that I did not like the excess of squadmates that I mostly did not need on the ship. It's not a big deal. Still though. Jacob.

It appears as though neither can exist without the other being branded canononicaly false.

This is why you can love ME1 and save the hate for ME2&ME3

This. So much this.
Non of the main games have a very remarkable main plot. Bioware's narrative strength was in it's characters, character arcs and world building, of which ME2 had plenty. In contrast ME3 concentrates on the Reaper menace, a cliche, ancient evil plot that ultimately devolved into the current endings, completely forgetting about it's strong characters. Rannoch and Tuchanka are the best parts of the game precisely because the reapers' importance is mostly tangential.
And ME2's main choices were only invalidated by ME3.

I agree, I was actually addicted to it when it first came out.
