ok, so as im looking at stats, it says stuff like 15% for sustained..  but then i look at the skill with it running and it says 15..

so i'm wondering, is the sustained stamina use, just the number, or does it go up as you put more points into willpower?  (seems like if it went up that would not really be helpfull adding more)

another thing, Dex, my first couple levels i put 2 points in str, and 1 point in dex, thinking better def like DAO..  but now i notice that cunning is the def stat.

but being a sheild fighter, i was thinking perhaps adding some dex would be good.  I could get that skill that adds +10% crit chance, then add say another 10-15 points,  soo 25% total.   combined with some crit damage boosting skill, it makes me think this might be a good way to get more damage.

I was looking at a stat called fortitude as well, that is under str,  what actually does that do?  is it just physical resist from knockdown like in dao?  If soo, wouldnt taking that skill that has 100% KD protection just be better?

My Idea on this character, was to add enough str to use armor/weapons i want,  then add dex, and cunning, for more damage boosting,  then take skills to add defence, and surviablity..   aka not adding much into con.

i also saw the skill that has major resist to magic, 40%,  would adding some points to magic be wise?

my idea is sorta a psedo templar, with nice damage on sword and sheild.

((please no spoilers as this is my first playthrough,,  just trying to get a handle on what would make a decent fighter)

Sustains work on a percentage of your total stamina pool. So more willpower will mean a higher cost of each sustain (so berserkers shouldn't be using too many sustains). However, since the amount of 'free stamina' is basically a percentage of your total stamina pool, more willpower will still mean more stamina for using abilities etc. But for bloodmages etc that don't need stamina, there's absolutely no need for willpower.

Defence is relatively unnecessary in DA2. It reduces the hit-chance of enemy auto-attacks, but higher ranked enemies (assassins etc) have a capped hit-chance (they will still be able to hit you no matter how high your defence is) and their abilities (i.e. backstab) are an auto-hit. So besides for rogues who can benefit from the increased critical damage, vitality is probably better for survivability than cunning - and manually dodging is better than both.

Crit-chance is always useful in terms of increasing damage, but generally speaking it's not worth sacrificing base damage for. A full strength warrior build will do a lot more damage than a high dex build. The optimal way to build non-berserker warriors is to pump strength until 100, then start putting everything into dex. There's no real need to pump con, so full strength will be just as glassy as you intended but a lot stronger. Equipment and abilities that increases crit-chance and damage are always useful to use though.

Fortitude prevents force effects (disrupted attacks/knockback/knockdown). Pre-patch warriors had an advantage over other classes due to their higher fortitude (less knockback locks). Post-patch there isn't any need to prevent knock-back, especially for warriors - so taking that ability is kinda a waste.

If you want a crit-warrior, just invest in crit-items.
etched ring of the twins
puzzle ring of the black fox
four fingered eddie's lucky talisman
seven deadly cinch
early game-rogue armour or warrior armour from the second item pack

With all those items you can get a significant amount of crit damage and crit chance and can pump out the damage you're looking for. Heroic aura (+10% crit chance) and Might (+25% crit damage) are also very useful.

If that's not exciting enough for you, an elemental build is always an option. Using mage gear and an elemental weapon (edge of night, desdemona's blade etc) you can dish out a lot more damage than a physical build. By act 3 you should be able to find some decent robes and rings that give ~+60% (fire/lightning) damage or a bit less cold/spirit/nature damage.

Magic is rather useless.

Your lucky. Mr_afk responded quickly. I'd probably tell you something wrong like keep pumping Strength and get enough constitution for your shield. ha ,ha.
