What is the real reason that PS3 never gets any of the promotional items that Xbox 360 and PC players get? I get to check out most of it (like the lame ME2 Dr. Pepper gear), since I play most of the games on both PC and PS3, but it is still frustrating. For instance, I own Battlefield 3 on PS3, I have the BF3 outfit listed as a greyed out option in my PS3 ME3 online profile, but I can't have the suit. According to the EA FAQ it is for the same "technical issues" that prevented PS3 players from receiving rewards for participating in the Facebook event.
But it's just a skin, so I don't buy that "technical issues" excuse. What is the real reason we can't have the same things on PS3 when we've made the same investment in the same games, content, and products? Even if it's just as simple as "We have a deal with Microsoft to keep things on their two platforms", it'd be a reason. (Not one I'd like, but one that would make more sense than "the PS3 just can't support it". )

That still doesn't explain why I can't get a multiplayer skin, or why I couldn't get a visor with some extra stats for ME2 (the Dr. Pepper promotion).

It might explain why cut scenes stutter, or why the textures sometimes become transparent in Viscount's Keep on DA2, but not why they can't give me the various stat items or a skin.

Not to my satisfaction anyway.

You know what this is?

It's the world's smallest violin, playing just for PS3 users.

I was expecting that (hence the title).

And ultimately, yeah, it's not a major deal. But it's still kind of raw to see something, get excited about it because you've bought all the requisite games and/or DLC and/or products, and then find out you don't get to enjoy the thing they've been advertising when you go to figure out how to redeem it.

It's one of the (many) reasons I still prefer the PC experience usually. But sometimes it's fun to veg out on the couch, and when I do, it'd be nice to get the full experience (at least as far as content) on my console without having to shovel more money into the Microsoft maw. (They've already got my PC dollar, why do they need my console dollar too?!?)

I think it has something to do with how the whole gameplay feedback system works on the PSN. It took quite a while for BioWare to sort that out with Sony for the Commendation Packs and I think instead of taking the trouble to fight to have the BF3 Soldier work they just chalked it up as a loss, because it's not costing them players since it only an inconvenience for BF3 players.

Besides, why would you play ME3 on PS3 when the series started on Xbox (and later PC) and you can't play the original, which is pretty damn necessary?

Pretty much.  Personally I don't want a BF3 soldier in my game so I don't much care...

Speaking for myself I only have a PS3.  No X-Box and I don't have a PC and I ain't bootcamping my Mac.  PS3 is the only way I can play, and while the first game is 'necessary', it doesn't take away the story and enjoyment of the other 2 games.

Because even if the PS3 does everything. It does everything baddly. Sony just forgot about that part.

Same reason why Bethesda will never release the DLC of Skyrim on PS3 I guess.

It's not necessary.

It's not necessary.

It is. If you want to play a watered-down GoW clone, then ME2 and ME3 is perfect. Otherwise, go for ME1.

Or it's a technical issue because of how Sony designs and runs these things.

I genuinely can't see why they couldn't unlock the Battlefield 3 character. Do it for every player if they can't manage it any other way.

I have the character on my 360 and he's the best Soldier, better than the N7 Destroyer for me.

lol, since when is the first game in a trilogy in which choices made alters your gameplay experience not necessary?

It's like saying watching The Godfather Pt. I or Star Wars: A New Hope isn't necessary as long as you've watched the other 2.

Why wouldn't you want to play the ME games on PS3 if you only had a PS3? The ME trilogy without ME1 is still enormously better than having no ME games at all.

I agree that it is really important to know what was going on in ME1, but you don't have to be clueless when starting to play ME2. The interactive backstory provides you with plenty information about what ME1 was about. And then you could also watch playthroughs on YouTube or read a plot summary somewhere.

Myself, I started the series on PC. I played ME1 and ME2 on PC. I'm sure at some point, when I have extra cash, I'll also play ME3 on PC, so I can import those saves.

However I also thoroughly enjoyed ME2 on PS3, because I enjoyed playing if from the couch, especially since they changed it up and made it more of a shooter anyway. I was also more invested in my PS3 story (even with a gimped out ME1 comic book intro) than my PC story by the time ME3 came out. So it made more sense for me. (Not that I need to defend my platform choice. I just like the PS3 better. But also, before I'd gotten a 360, it made more sense to me to have a PS3 as my console since most of the 360 "exclusives" I wanted to play were also released on PC while the PS3 exclusives really were exclusive.)

But really, whether or not you prefer it on 360 or PC, or whether you think the interactive comic intro isn't sufficient backstory for PS3 players who haven't played it on another platform, is irrelevant.

ME3 is available on PS3, and it would be nice to have access to all the content released for it, even if I decide I don;t like it after 5 minutes. Not necessary. (I can thoroughly enjoy the story with any multiplayer content at all) But nice.

Sony have much more stringent demands on PSN content and most of the time things are delayed, it's down to Sony rather than the company itself. Also MS have been aggressive in getting exclusive content, whereby Sony haven't wanted to pay for that kind of stuff. All in all most of the problems PS3 owners have are down to Sony rather than the individual game companies, though unsure about this specific case.

The biggest piece of content us PS3 players are missing out on is Mass Effect 1.
Arguably the best Mass Effect game in the series.

I played it on the PC.
I am not a big fan of WASD controls and would have prefered that game on the PS3.

Regarding Mass Effect 2 & 3, we miss out on content that is related to Mass Effect 1, and a few other bits and pieces. I'm not bothered too much, but I do feel it's a shame to be mising out on anything.

So yes, the opening post is valid, but it is not something that keeps me awake at night.

Also regarding the Battlefield 3 Armour. Oh well. That would have been nice.
It's basically the original human soldier but with carnage instead of concussive shot.
Given how broken amplified concussive shot is, having it replaced with carnage is awesome.

Krogan Soldiers, Vorcha Soldiers and Krogan Battlemasters all have it. So those who don't have Battlefield 3 soldier just have to wait a bit longer and hope the random pack generators deliver...

You got so much other content from others like Capcom and WB entertainment. No offense but Microsoft has to stay in the big leagues with Nintendo and Sony and they can't do it if they don't try to hold onto something.

I really don't think Nintendo was a player this latest generation. And (in North America anyway) Xbox seems to have a clear lead over PS3 (just based on the player base I know personally, I don't have any figures available to back that up). So I'm not sure I buy that they "need it" to stay in the big leagues.

I have always figured MS exclusivity had something to do with it, but I'd still like the verification.

I agree. It's stupid how we can't get any of the promo stuff others do.

Until Wii was eventually overtaken by XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii actually dominated the competition.
So for at least the first half of the 7th generation, Wii was on top.

PS3 is also in trouble.

Now Wii is behind. Their new console Wii U doesn't look promising. But only time will tell.

A couple of years back Xbox had 7 million more users than PS3 in the USA and 1 million more in Europe. PS3 had 5 million more users than Xbox in Japan.

So there was a few million more Xbox users, but that was a couple of years ago.  I believe PS3 are equal or ahead in Europe and got a million or so closer in USA.  Xbox clearly won this gen though, they hit the market early, price drop on ps3 release and never really let up. Although Wii overtook it at one point.

Strange because PS3 is obviously the better console of the two spec wise.  But seeing as how so many games are multi console, they're made for the weakest spec, so you don't really notice.

PS3 has very strict rules when it comes to DLC, Promotions, and events.

This is why for the first 3 MP weekends PS3s were not included, as BW was still trying to cut a deal with them.
