There's really no reason the Defender armor shouldn't be fully customizable seeing as how it's the same as the human soldier/vanguard armor in MP.
There's really no reason why any armour shouldn't be fully customisable, considering it was one of the main complaints about the DLC armour back in ME2.

Read ME Wiki Tweaks, just remember to change to a clean Coalesced.bin before playing co-op, don't give BioWare or EA any excuses to screw your account.

If it's single player your talking about there is Coalesced editing to make them helmless or replace them with any other helmet. Most of my armours have the Dr Pepper visor instead of the defaults.

This.
I've just removed the helmet from all my non-customizable armours, and have never looked back.

Unfortunately, this won't work for those of us playing on consoles. :\\ (Yes, I know, I'm going to get bombed with a lot of "PC is better!" responses lol)
Also - the Defender armor was touted as being this amazing armor for tank characters, when it is easily outclassed by the default armor. Actually, no armor comes anywhere close to the protective power of the default armor 0o ...why?

To be fair, the default armour is nonetheless N7 armour too and IIRC the Defender armour was more about being full combat option as oppose to being something that just provided protection - there was lots of talk of extra thermal clip compartments, targeting aids etc.

altho to be truly honest i would prefer an appearance alteration and armor stats be seperate, so u can look how you want and keep the armor stats that suits ur character.
+1. I don't know why they offered you the capability to colour your armour any colour you want, but introduced specific stats for armour pieces. I'd rather Shep's appearence be purely dictated by person perference.
That said, I've rather lucky that my preferred armour in all three games matches my stat preferences too.

The non-customizable armors may not beat out the N7 armor in terms of how high each stat gets, but in almost every case, the non-customizable armors get better overall stats. For example, the Inferno Armor gives +30% to Power Damage and Power Recharge Speed. With the N7 Armor, you can get either 30/20, or you can get 25/25. It's impossible to get 30/30 using N7 Armor. The only exceptions to this are the DLC armor sets (N7 Defender and Reckoner Knight), and those are still useful because you have access to them right away. A Soldier can put on the N7 Defender and have a solid all-around suit right from the start while he picks up the armor pieces needed to get his preferred N7 armor setup. The Reckoner Knight armor is a great early armor for a Vanguard who likes to make regular use of Melee.
But what I'm saying is if you use the default N7 pieces, you get +50 Health.

..or they just grow backbone, get rid of Hudson, put someone who's not driven by ambition and ego, to carry ME3 multiplayer into the next stage. Singleplayer is dead thanks to previously mentioned. No replay value at all.
