Laidlaw says the inspiration is Skyrim.  He really liked that game so he's going to try to turn DA3 into a Skyrim clone.  It was some press release, theres more info on the DA2 forum.

Bioware moved him off mass effect 3 to work on the Star Wars MMO.  He then left.

I don't really know if he was moved or if he wanted to work on SWTOR instead, so I can't and don't want to argue with you. However, I read his blog, and the ending he originally intended for ME3 was even worse than what Mac Walters came up with. That said, Drew would've probably given us several endings as well. So, one of them might've been very good.

The ending wasn't the only issue with ME3 writing though.  The whole Reaper war was clearly misunderstood by the new writer.  This was a Science fiction story about a race of sentinent starships and the struggles of humanity to be accepted in the galaxy.  This Walters guy just got fixated on synthetics organics yadda yadda.  The writing was off all the way through, not just the ending.

This thread fails at originality. My final answer.

Mass Effect 3 has its flaws, but implying that it's a bad game doesn't seem right. I actually enjoyed it after the Extended Cut was released. The squadmates are great, I like it how they matured throughout the trilogy. Music is very good, as well. The writing (main plot) could've been much better, but it's okay in my opinion.

What I particularly dislike about the game is: too much auto dialogue in certain situations and lack of proper consequences in the Priority: Earth mission. I mean, where are all the Krogans, Vorcha, Geth Primes, and so on when Shepard runs towards the Conduit? Where are Volus bombing fleets? What about the Quarians -- the best tech. experts in the galaxy? Most of our decisions basically become a number which decides whether we get to choose from three or four endings.

Ray Muzyka, BioWare's CEO, said in an interview with Wired.com that Dragon Age III would be influenced by more open world games, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which BioWare is "checking out aggressively."

Oh God, why can't they just make DA3 DA3 instead of a poor, badly done Skyrim clone?

Yes, yes. We know, just move on - they're going to continue down their path because only the "minority" complains.

They still make great games, flawed but great, but that was also true about ME 1 and DA O which were flawed games as well.

I get it now. But, honestly, did you expect to have a choice in every conversation Shepard was involved? I played ME3 and I don't think my Shepard acted without my direction. Quite the contrary, in fact.

So not comming up with a fitting and epic boss fight was not the easy way out? [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie]

Imagine the next game:

"Wow Bioware didn´t even make a game out of ME4, they could have taken the easy and predictable route, but they didn´t. Brilliant!"

In writing terms yes, not going with the traditional topic of "epic final boss with chorus" is not the easy way out. When you write a story, you can always take the easy path and use the  topics that all readers will recognize to move your story foward.

But trying to do something original? That's not easy.

I think linking to American Wrestling tells more about the person linking it than the person it is directed at lol. People still watch that?

Yep. We still do and so do the UK.

In fact the number 2 wrestling company Total Nonstop Action Wrestling came to the UK earlier this year and taped some shows and the arena was sold out and the crowd was great and it was one of the best shows in the company's 10 year history.

Has no one read the books?  Drew clearly plays around with this theme in them.  Not only that, but in an interview he recently did, he mentions this theme explicitly as a theme all of the writers were throwing around as to be central in the ending of the trilogoy.

We have never had a ME without auto-dialogue being present; no one was expecting this. But the sheer abundance of auto-dialogue ME3 had combined with the lack of middle option helped kill the game for many.

Well by your own argument they won't care that your money won't be coming to them with 10 more 'casuals' waiting to buy their stuff when you leave.
Mass Effect 3 is one of the best narratives I ever crammed into my computer and so was DA2.
I've also seen plenty of criticism on these boards that only got locked when trolls and ragers invaded to spam and derail.

I agree but the endings (ME3 and DA2) were bad, you have to admit that, or at least that they do not really make sense.  I think Bioware still makes good games, I just think they need to plan ahead on how to end a game series.

Again, people starts putting down what should have been in ME3 for it to be a good game - it doesn't work that way, and I don't think that's the purpose of this thread.

We can argue till the REAL reapers show up about whats a good game, what should be in it and what shouldn't, but it won't change the fact that OP is in part right about Bioware - since they got EA as their publisher, they have become more money-grabbing, the idea with paid DLCs being the main culprit. But Bioware are still able to make good, solid games, just not to everyone's taste, and that is probably impossible.

he mentioned several games including Skyrim, Dark Souls etc.  They liked Skyrim's openess but they also liked Dark Souls' atmsphere. And Dragon Age 3 will be a Dragon Age game not Skyrim clone.

Bioware is a dev, not a publisher. SW:TOR should have been a Single Player game,

F#*K MMOs! The trashy games that beg for money more then F2P. Anything MMO = garbage. Straight fact.

They haven't screwed up ME just yet, they can still sort it out. DA can also be sorted out. They just messed up a little just for trying something new.

Note to Bioware: Stick to your old formula and don't stop.

It is not just Bioware, the entire gaming industry is going mainstream to appeal more to the casual gamer.

You want games that are full of Fun Gameplay, compelling stories, and tons of replayibility? go to gog.com and check out the classics from the 80s and 90s. (If you like RPGs i recommend the Might and Magic franchise (specifically 7&8)).

Okay. Let me try and turn this thread around with some actual constructive criticism.

For starters, I loved Mass Effect 3 a lot. But for the sake of being helpful, I'll just point out where Mass Effect 3 went wrong.

War Assets were not representated in the final mission.
The lack of a final boss.
Lack of planet exploration.
Some of the past decisions such as the Collector Ship didn't have any real consequences.
Auto dialogue.
Shooting mechanics are the best they've ever been in the series. But still have some catching up to do.
More dialogue options. Neutral ones would be nice too.
I know it will never be done, but the removal of Star Child and Star Child's choices would have been an improvement on the endings.
I did like extended cut, but ultimately if you want the game to be more "paletable" for fans, that might be an idea.
More modes for multiplayer.

Come on guys. Make this thread useful. Please.

Thank you, contributing useful imformation is usually covered under 4 trillion metric tons of trolling flaming.

my contribution is:

improve/include narrative for side missions

add gravity to decisions (i mean come on can't I at least get a 5 second cinematic for my war assets)

interactive war assets, gives the player control over war asset ie: interchangable upgrades, maybe a small hub for the more important assets aka Destiny's Ascension, Flotilla, Krogan outpost this could also open interesting side missions, maybe an epic tactical minyish game that can effect the ending using war assets

Because resources and time are spent to attempt to make competetive graphics, animations and combat
it's really the gaming communities fault for valueing "casual gaming" and action, shooters ect
