This is absolutely false.

There never was a "dark energy" ending. It was something that was considered near the end of ME2, but it was ultimately shelved. There is no evidence that any work was ever put into this ending (beyond the seeds of it that were in ME2), and all evidence suggests that the current ending was decided upon before development of ME3 began.

The only leak was a beta build that Microsoft accidentally made available. The current ending is nearly identical to the leaked version, and the leak also contained older developer notes (from much earlier—this is where knowledge of all of the cut plots and other content comes from), which also had practically the same ending.

The ending was not changed because of any leak.

I don't know, the ending backlash really sent them running with their tails between their legs. I have two guesses:

A: They are both trying to sever Bioware from EA, and then planning to revive the Mass Effect series with large amounts of expansion dlc's for singleplayer mode in ME3. 

Or

B: They realized what they have done and are trying to avoid being backhanded by EA and the community because of the backlash.
