A turian novaguard with adrenaline rush instead of shockwave.
A batarian smashdept with annihilation field instead of singularity (smash would detonate targets inside the field, and targets lashed towards you would detonate as soon as they entered your field.)
An asari sentinel with cryo blast, reave, and slam.
A krogan adept with reave, throw, and annihilation field.

This makes me think of playing a sword and shield character in Skyrim. I think the way I'd want it, I'd make omni-shield an activated power, and make the omni-sword the melee. Having omni-shield off would give you sword-based light and heavy melee attacks similar to the shadow's.
Activating the omni-shield would give you a shield similar to the paladin's, but with lower health and a limited duration, while allowing you full mobility (maybe at reduced speed, but with an evolution to remove that penalty.) Light melee with the shield activated performs a shield bash that's very quick and staggers, heavy melee remains the same. Since you're giving him dark channel, the shield bash should also have an evolution that lets it detonate BEs with shield bashes. It'd also be nice if the shield worked similar to the vorcha's flamer, where you can deactivate it early for a shorter cooldown, possibly with a heavy shield bash like the paladin's if the power is deactivated early.

Destroy: A large surge of energy that does plenty of damage to nearby targets. Especially damaging to synthetic targets.
Control: The ability to control any target in 1st person view.
Synthesis: Makes squadmates eyes turn green, boosting their weapon, melee and power damage. Also boosts team defence.
Extended Cut: (Health Passive) Increases the amount of health and shields you have.
Catalyst: (class Passive) Boosts your weapon damage and power damage.

Only one mode can be active at a time. Turning one on automatically turns off the other. Base cooldown is 15 seconds.
Offensive mode. {Increases weapon damage, rate of fire, clip capacity, accuracy, and reduce recoil. Costs speed, shields, and lowers defenses}
Defensive mode. {Increase shields, damage reduction, ammo capacity, and melee damage. Decreases rate of fire and weapon damage.}
Shoulder-mounted energy Cannon. {Uses shields [instead of recharge] to fire an energy based shoulder cannon. Damage is calculated by how much shields are taken to use it. Depending on evolutions, it can take all your shields to deal massive damage to one target, or it can take less shields to deal massive force, but low damage, to multiple targets.}
Internal Systems. {Weapon damage evolution bonuses are higher than normal. Power damage evolutions increase shields instead of weight capacity.}
Fitness. {Normal shield vs melee choices.}
