Any of you guys on here playing instruments? If so, what do you play and for how long have you played? What are your favorite styles? Have any music to share? Post links of your compositions!

Also, lets create some cover music from the Mass Effect Universe! I am going to be working on an electronic/techno/trance piece that touches on my favorite moments of Mass Effect 1.

If by any chance this thread catches on, lets agree not to bash people for their music ability or tastes. If you must criticize someones music if they provide a link, please give encouraging/constructive criticism.

I have played guitar for 17 years, and play 6, 7 and 8 string guitars.
Also I enjoy bass.
Lately, I have been enjoying playing keys/synthesizers, and music production with my computer (still learning)

I have played in a progressive death metal band called Crown Hill, but quit a year ago. I literally enjoy all genres of music.

My current projects: http://soundcloud.co...id-title-screen
Criticism is welcome on the Metroid song. I suck at mixing:p

Thanks!! I really hope we get some people posting in this thread. I would love to hear what everyone has to offer. It would be awesome if we could get enough material for a fan created soundtrack!

Alto/bari saxophone. Clarinet. Bass Clarinet. Keybaord/piano.

8 years. Private lessons, symphony bands, concert bands, jazz bands, IMEA bands, classes, marching bands, solos, ensembles.

I don't own a bari or a bass clarinet anymore. School owned and all that :/

Sadly, I'm not very musically inclined.

Although, something I would really like to see would be a sort of "music of the Mass Effect Universe" type project. Something where people make music that you think would be present in-universe. Like some Salarian Calypso Jazz-Metal.

Very impressive! some sax would do nicely with several Mass Effect melodies. Do you still play piano?

I would love for a project like that to happen. I would be on board if we could get several musicians together. We could e-mail each other tracks to build onto.. I just hope enough people look at this thread. I haven't really found another thread on here like this, and the "music" group on here is pretty dead, or so it seems.

This sounds like fun! I'm a self-taught pianist and I've played for about 14 years now. As far as style goes I'm not too picky. Don't play classical music much though so good on you sH0tgUn jUliA. I've made some ME covers on youtube. Written some of my own music as well (mostly for solo piano) but haven't made vids or recorded any of it yet. Most of it was written years ago when I first tinkered with music theory but there's always something in my head.

I haven't done any ME covers. I've done my own stuff, a lot of which could easily drop into the ME universe. A lot I don't have fully mixed yet. I've got about a 2/3 of an album written two tracks mixed, but I had an update forced on me recently and some software I need won't run properly anymore. I need to do a system upgrade on my audio PC, which essentially means a new PC. I was running WIN XP on it. But I knew this day was coming. I might pick up one of those Creation Stations from www.swee****er.com which are set up perfectly for what I'm doing. (i7 processor and all that stuff).

Here's a link to a track I did. It actually does have a guitar on it but I used a particle reverb and it actually sounds like a synthesizer and helicopter. The rest is done on keyboards. The full album takes you on a sonic journey through various scenes, some of them dark, some of them soothing, some of them energetic, some epic, some bittersweet. I hope to have it finished and mastered for purchase early next year.

Julia I LOVE that track! Nice Schecter in your soundcloud pic, too. The mixing is very good on the track also, which is something I lack skill in. I have 5 other tracks that I haven't put up because the mix is crap.

What drum vst are you using? They are absolutely explosive!

Self taught on bass for the past ~6 years, play a whole lot of progressive rock and metal. Just joined a prog band on account of their last bassist refusing to do anything outside of 4/4 timing, it'll be a fun challenge and change of pace to learning odds and ends of songs by ear. Shall post some stuff up once we've had a few initial jam sessions to work things out :)

Edit: JohnHatch, ShotgunJulia - those are some damn nice tracks!

I love the variety of talented folks who are fans of these sorts of games ^_^

Heck yeah, what are some of your influences? I played guitar in a progressive death metal band that was in the style of the Faceless and Between the Buried and Me. My personal fans arent quite as heavy though. I really like Angra and Circus Maximus. I hope your band works out nicely! And yeah, it ain't prog if it's only 4/4. Good luck! Can't wait to hear some stuff!

Yeah, Julia's track blew me away. And thank you also for your kind words on my track. It was a sophomore attempt, as I am just getting into that sort of computer recording!

@JohnHatch

Very much influenced by the likes of Justin Chancellor and Brian Cook, also Jonas Hellborg. Would love to emulate their knack of writing basslines that support the aspects of a song the other members are providing yet still manage to add something interesting of their own.

Not a Schecter. That's my ESP Alexi. I used to have a Schecter but traded it for my keyboard.

EWQL StormDrum 2 + XLN Addictive Drums. If you added up how much I've got in software it gets into the scary range. And I need more.:crying:

I use Presonus Studio One Pro v2 for my DAW.

I've played the guitar for about three and a half years now. Not as experienced as you guys, but I sure would love to participate. This would likely help me a lot and I would certainly like to help out too :D.

yo Hatch, to answer your question from the other thread about my DAW, I use ableton almost exclusively. thanks for peeping some of my sounds! I listened to the track you posted, and I dig it! not super into techno, but I feel like if you keep working at it, you have a lot of potential. for anyone else into downtempo/triphop stuff, check my soundcloud:

@Iceberg Slim, Love some downtempo. I think my fav artist in that category is Dinka. But your stuff is great, thanks for sharing on the thread! lets work some Chill Effect into this mix! I also use Ableton Live 8, and I am in love with it. Maybe we caould swap some templates and create some cool stuff together.

@MacNasty, don't discredit yourself! Three years is a long time:) I teach guitar lessons at my store, and believe me, my students learn a lot in a little time. Would love to get you in on some things. If you don't have any way of recording, you can get a program called Audacity for free online, and youtube tutorials would help you learn it. Also, an audio interface would help get your guitar into the computer, or to mic your guitar amp:)

@Julia, An Alexi Laiho model? as in Children of Bodom? NICE!! I have PreSonus Studio One, but it's a version that came with my PreSonus Audiobox 1818VSL audio interface. I will have to check that drum VST out! And i definitely hear you about the money, I spent a fortune on my DAW (Ableton Live Suite 8) which came with a lot of really nice preloaded VST's. I also went broke buying Native Instruments FM8, Absynth, Razor and Massive (fortunately got a bundle discount). Also have som drum and synth VST's from Sonic faction and SonicCouture , which are really nice, and what I'm working with on a piece I'm currently trying to finish mixing (which i suck at).

@lynroy, AWESOME job!! That Yamaha sounds great. What are you recording into, and if your using a digital audio workstation, what are you using? It's pieces like Final Conversation and Suicide Mission that embody the emotional aspect of this entire Mass Effect story. And Leaving Earth.. oh man. Gives me chills. And you did fantastic. 14 years is an impressive amount of time playing, and it shows! I have played guitar for 17 years (I am 29), and keyboard officially for 1 year now haha:p

@Iclonic, is that YOU playing? The quality of sound and skill is freaking blowing me away. seriously! please tell us your setup, recording equipment etc.!!

Which leaves me an idea.. PICTURES of our setups!! I'll take some of mine tomorrow and post on here, you guys should also:) But right now i gotta get some sleep -_-

Thank you, JohnHatch. I love my Yamaha. I record the music onto my keyboard and then play it back and record it on my laptop by way of audacity. Pic of setup? My setup is not impressive at all. All I have is my keyboard, laptop, an ipod taped to the back of laptop (to record vid), and audacity to record the sound from my keyboard. Poor mans setup. I'll post a pic if you must see....
