So there's this feature in BOII called Strike Force missions wherein the player will make choices heavily impacting the story of the game and affecting the course of the current mission where they have made the choice. Choosing certain missions locks out other missions meaning that each playthrough will have different missions and the story will be different and have different conclusions everytime you play.

The Strike Force missions also feature permanant death and if the player dies in a mission the story continues as you play a new character but the plot is impacted due to the failure which can even change the plans of the antagonist.

So Call of Duty BOII is technically an RPG by most of today's RPG's developers standards.

Well what with Halo Reach allowing you to customize your armor and choose Noble 6's gender I'm not suprised by any of this TBH.

What the hell is happening to the gaming industry... Call of Duty becoming an RPG and possibly surpassing EAware's recent crap. Now THAT would be something.

This article says there's perks for your character in single player:

http://www.g4tv.com/...ie-info-leaked/

This is a sick joke.

If it turns out there's a character creator, proper leveling up and customization of your armor in SP I'm going to laugh.

Black Ops II = More depth than half the RPG's on the market today.

There's also RTS elements too according to some stuff I've read and you get to control units like in a typical RTS game before switching back to your character in FPS.

<sighs>Throw in a character creator, some skills/skill points, and rpg of the year will be feasible.

They're sounding like the bizarro Bioware. And all they'll be doing is offering a simplistic vision of choice and consequence. This is them banking on modern RPG mechanics and treating them as if they're trends.

I just died a little inside.

And I'm now more interested in playing Black Ops 2 than DA3.

Sad thing is, it'll be a better game than either ME3 or DA2.

Y'know, I used to find it fun to point out games that were more of an RPG then the Mass Effect series
But there are just so many....

Sigh, branching paths have nothing to do with role play. Branching story is born from adventure games not RPGs

Well, I was capable of role playing in the original Black Ops, and Black Ops 2 sounds like it will be even more helpful in facilitating roleplaying. I was completely incapable of roleplaying in DA2 because of the voiced protagonist and the paraphrasing system that made it a guessing game, so Black Ops 1 and 2 are deeper RPGs than DA2.

True. But choosing how your character thinks and acts is role playing. And if you control how they act, they can make choices. And choices should inevitably lead to different outcomes.

So in that respect, it would seem that this game gives you more impactful choice than DA2 or ME3.

I ♥ Blops

I love this new mode or whatever though, seriously. I wouldnt' mind it at all if it took RPG of the year over some other game like ME3. I doubt it would happen.. but cool to think about
