Sigh, branching paths have nothing to do with role play. Branching story is born from adventure games not RPGs

I don't consider Final Fantasy to be an RPG in the least; nor any other JRPGs for that matter. No roleplaying, no genre label.

And this right here is part of why short of mocking I don't join in any "debates" or see half of the Opinions and those who express them worth more than a bug I step on with my shoe. F'ng stupidity.

Oh the irony of this whole situation.

It's not an RPG until it has romances and choices in cinematic dialog that lead to the same conclusion.

So until you can tenderly destroy Cpt. Price's anal cavity by grinding his friendship points and picking the "ravage" option on a dialog wheel, BioWare games will still be the purest RPGs.

Nice try, Infinity Ward. But no dice.

I don't get why people are STILL so upset about some games they didn't like. Talk about beating a dead horse.

To troll the people who said they were great, and still defend them.

@termokanden: to keep on smearing EAware's failure into their face. It's the only way they'll learn.

Also, I actually hipe this CoD game will bring shame upon EAware. Their just desserts, I'd say.

If FF is a RPG, I'm the smartest person in the galaxy.
Following a predetermined character and not making any decision does NOT a ropg make, regardless of how many stats there are.

I think of jrpg's to rpgs as what a platypus is to mammals.

What, proof that evolution doesn't always move forward, but instead takes a total WTF?OMG! step backwards sometimes?

That's the theory of devolution which exists in the DA universe which explains why people's faces got uglier (or changed for the worst) along with elves in DA2.

You know what, there's actually a slight chance that the new COD will have more depth than Mass Effect 3. Sad but true.

Well they'll just have to wait while the fandom tenderizes the proverbial horse.

@ Fast Jimmy - It's weird but i wouldn't say the platypus(jrpg genre) as a whole is an evolutionary step back. There's games like Front Mission, Tactics:Ogre, Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, Catherine, Chrono Cross that have multiple descision making scenarios that affect the story, leading branching plotlines and multiple endings, even though they have predefined protagonists.

I do agree that the current state of Jrpg's is on life support.

Everybody in this thread is mad or sad. Makes me lol. I want to support Treyarch, and I want to still se zombies, however I don't care for CoD as a series. I think adding in small moral choices and a kind of perk system in single player sounds neat. Bye.

Pre-determined or not, Choices are what makes an RPG, ROLE-PLAYING.
You can't role-play a character you have no control over.

(Combat doesn't count, otherwise Mario's an RPG.)
