I kind of want them to work on Versus XIII at least. Or Kingdom Hearts III. Anything that doesn't have the cast of Final Fantasy XIII in it really.

I almost forgot about Versus, it's the only Xlll that i'm looking forward to. Ditto on KH3, i wasn't able to play the handheld games so i've been waiting for a console release for 6 years.

This. I heard that apparently KH3D was basically a lead in to KH3 though, so at least we know it's coming.

Way I see it, it's kinda like The Dark Knight Rises. It's a silly title, and it should be called Final Fantasy XIII-3, but it works I suppose.

I do agree whole heartedly though that I want the story/characters from the first two to be present in some capacity. I don't like the idea of them ditching the forst two game's story at all.

They warped back the timeline, Chaos unleashed on the world, now you get this new "chaotic world" that will end soon. You can't interact with the new characters anymore, you're stuck with a new cast and Lightning is the only playable character. Not only is it alienating, but frustrating for the people who actually loved playing other characters like Serah, Noel, Fang, Vanille, etc.

I also don't like how they chose the easy path with this game, to create new stuff while ditching so many plot holes away. They're only making new holes with this new plot and something tells me that we'll never see the older cast again... I don't want the new NPCs, I want the older characters. Ugh. Frustrating.

I swear, if they pull out a "Caius is still the big bad" trump card, I'll eat my socks.

I agree with most of this. But I liked the XIII-2 ending because it set up the potential for XIII-3 to be great. And also I wouldn't mind Caius being the villain in this new game because it would kinda make sense. 

BUT!!!!!  If they do completely forget the characters from the first two games, I will be incredibly disappointed. I want XIII-3 to conclude the trilogy, not give us a new and completely unrelated story. That being said, I think there are several ways that they could tie it back to the previous games, especially if Caius is the villain, becuase

So if he was still the villain, there would be that connection to the previous lore and it would keep the focus of the story on resolving the plot from the previous two. 

I really hope they don't just ditch the first two games...

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII sounds like Lightning herself was disappointed with the individual series and wants to get her money back.

Note though that I'm a fan of FFXIII's story. Haven't played FFXIII-2, but from what I know I'd probably like it.

Correct. Nomura has said as much IIRC and KH3 will end the Xehanort Saga. What's interesting is that this implies the series itself will have other sagas, though whether that's indeed the case is unknown.

And man, KH3D looks ****ing sick. People just need to watch the gameplay videos and the trailers and they'll probably be content if not ecstatic, as it's supposed to be the length of a console game IIRC, just as BBS was itself considered the length of a console game if not more.

In that sense, BBS and KH3D are main titles because of where they take the story going forward and what they address. The only "sidestories" that I would really consider such would be 358 Days/2 and Coded. But even part of me considers the former to be a necessity and a main game, because it delves into Roxas' backstory -- and it's a tragic one. Had me in tears.

Coded isn't necessary. Really it can just be summed up in one sentence.

The awesome part about KH3D is that it also shows us some of the possible gameplay that KHIII will have.

There's a timer in-game?

I'm a full on noob to Final Fantasy and 13 was my first FF game ever. As soon as i started i had no idea what the **** was going on with the story: all i knew was there is a purge, police attacking civilians, Snow was leading his little kiddie army, everyone as some brand on them which causes them to get hunted, there was a god under the city and everythings gets crystallised.

I felt a constant urge to kill somene whenever Hope,Vanille or Snow was in a cut-scene.

The combat confused me and could not get past some junk yard, i heard stories you need to grind? Anyway i am getting dominated and waiting until FF13-2 is cheaper with all dlc included.

But c'mon, a timer? I got no ****ing chance! I hope that city/world is open to run around, looks cool to explore.

I just hope he'll release a HD Collection soon too. I'd like to get the chance to play the remake of Chains of Memories, still a bit upset they chose not to release it in Europe. Plus Birth By Sleep too since I've really wanted to play that game, but don't have access to a PSP.

@Naughty Bear: It is my understanding that you will get back to the beginning when you fail, like a constant New Game +, with bonus features every time. In other words, you're not failing, just learning more stuff that makes you even strongers. Think about it like, Majora's Mask.

I wouldn't say Serah became the new Yeul since both her and Yeul stopped the cycle of reincarnation when Caius destroyed time itself. Lightning on the other hand crystalized herself with Serah's will in her mind, until the end of time. This is where Lightning Returns starts.

Well you got something for a completed XIII save file in XIII-2, though it was just a lame key item that gave you better chances in the Serendipity Slots. I imagine there would be. As well as a synopsis for both games like XIII-2 had.

The more Square tries to redeem the Lightning XIII series, the more they will have to redeem.

I'm not wishing anything bad on this product, but Squeenix has given me no reason to believe they can pull it off well. This sounds like it should be a new IP or a spin-off instead of a continuation of the main XIII series.
