All the FF games are seperate from each other and are set in their own worlds and have their own stories, characters and lore, save for the occasional cameo, reference or recurring series mainstays, like the moogles, chocobos and attack/magic spell names among other things. In the case of games like FFIV The After Years, FFX-2, FFXII Revenant Wings or the FFXIII trilogy those are continuations of the story set within the same world or universe as their prequel/s. Then you have stuff like the FFVII compilation which has prequels and sequels all over the place. Finally you have the Ivalice Alliance line of games, which all take place on the world of Ivalice, and includes FFXII and it's sequel as well as the FF Tactics games and Vagrant Story among others.

I'm ok with that.
I don't know if Toriyama is in love with lightning, as is speculated on other forums.He has a big blow up doll or something.shrugs.
Regardless, I hope this game is good as something needs to help Square salvage their franchise.:innocent:

The game is largely cutscene and remains mostly linear throughout the game.

I actually got sick of it part way through and just watched the rest of the cutscenes on youtube because I couldn't take the gameplay anymore.

13-2 is a massive improvement on the gameplay front.

I'm not really sure if this is the thread to talk about FFXIII, but I have to ask. I'm about 5 hours into the game. Does it get any better? So far, I'm a little disappointed. The game feels really linear and repetitive. Very, very cutscene heavy. I mean, I enjoy it, otherwise I wouldn't have spent 5 hours with this game, but I want something more out of this if it's as long as 3 disks would suggest it is.

It only gets okay in the last 3 hours, the rest is a boring linear chore with a convoluted story and garbage gameplay. The only good part is where *SPOILERBUTNOTREALLY* Lightning punches Snow.

Couldn't resist watching the ending to the game given I might not get enough time to play it when it finally releases here -- Definitely looking forward to see how it plays in the English version so I can understand what was going on there.

This...I don't know.Lightning certainly wasn't sexy in the first game, sexed up more in the second from the videos I've seen.I didn't buy the second game and now this.
Lightning was a very good character.I loved the VA.I love her voice.I actually feel sorry for her although I presume she got paid very well.She deserved a much more successful game/series than what Square produced.

I feel sorry for the Lightning character as she won't get the appreciation that she should have gotten from the FF fans because of Toriyama's meddling and just general bad game design/bad game plot/bad game writing for all 3 games.

Did she actually do anything in the sequel to make her a good character? Because she did nothing in the first game but be kind of a b*tch.

I'm finding myself strangely interested in this one, especially if the cast of the FF13 are kept to a minimum. Snow, Hope and Vanille were terrible. Snow being the worst character I've ever witnessed in gaming.

Don't agree she was a ****.
She had a severe attitude.
But she was worried about her sister, so that was understandable imo.

I didn't play the second game, Kaius doesn't interest me although I may get it at some point just for completionists purposes.

Snow is badly written but hardly the worst rpg character ever made.

If Lightning saves the world in the last game, as I assume she does, then that's a good thing imo.

Snow is an annoying character im glad Noel pointed out his bull**** in 13-2. I do suggest you play 13-2 I didn't particularly enjoy 13 but loved 13-2. Jumping between time periods was load's of fun and Kaius was a supriseingly good antagonst. Serah was kind of a meh protagonist though.

Well, I'm playing XIII at the moment. It looks like it's just a series of combats strung together via cutscenes and, at times, some bad dialogue. I mean, "Moms are tough," really? Still, I'm interested in the character of Lightning and her sidekick.

Moms are tough.I liked that character.I wish she hadn't died but had survived.
