My point is not that I was abusing it, my point was that it had auto-combat in the first place. That and that's all the gameplay really comes down to.

Call me a hater, a whiner or whatever but XIII's "gameplay" still sucks.

Giant numbers! big giant number battles of attrition!

There are interesting ways to dilute the gameplay mechanics of a JRPG battle, which is already pretty simplified, and XIII was definitely not the way to do it.

I agree. The auto-battle thing made no sense. What's the point? I bought the game. Why would I just want to watch the game fight for me? Completely pointless.

Since when an optional feature has become mandatory to enjoy a game?

Some infos about Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Characters stopped aging? 200 years in the future? *blinks* Okay...? Weird. I wonder how they will pull that out in-game. 26 hours seems reasonable for an average play through. "Lightning has become more lovely." Was that even necessary? Really, Gematsu?

And this is off-topic. Reported.

Edit: Wow... I really got a short fuse when it comes to defending this series. My apologies.

Uhh, wow >.> @Teddie

The thing about XIII's auto battle is that for most of the beginning of the game, you can easily end most battles with auto battle. The further you get in the story though the enemies become stronger and have more tricks up their sleeve, the more you use the auto battle the longer the fight takes and the more aggravating, drawn out and difficult things can get. Unless you instead forsake auto battle (except when maybe wiping highly under levelled enemies but even then there's better alternatives) and use the option to pick the attacks manually, it provokes better thinking on how to take out the foe in the quickest way possible and it can really show later on with the Cieth stone missions.

I guess you could say FFXIII's auto battle function is a hidden noob killer. You can also set the default battle command set from auto to manually picking out commands right before you even start the game at the title screen.

New details. Apparently the game will be designed to have multiple playthroughs. There will only be one ending, and it will be a happy one, but the game will only be around 26 hours to complete and will encourage multiple playthroughs.

ALSO!!! HOPE IS COMFIRMED TO RETURN!!! I'm so excited. Now that I know the cast of the previous two games must be returning. omg....why isn't it 2013 yet @_@

They did say everyone stopped ageing. Understandable, due to how FUBAR time is at the end of XIII-2.

The speedrunning community might be happy about this.

Here's the details from the Famitsu interview. A bit more than what the IGN article gave

According to this, the ATB gauge still exists, which I am very happy about. And like you said, Arc, the ppl from XIII-2 are alive cause no more aging.

Lol, I read an article somewhere where the writer was surprised that people had stopped ageing and old character's would be seen in the game. I laughed so hard at that, it shouldn'tve been a surprise if they had paid attention to one minute of WHY Caius was doing all he did. He was trying to bring an end to time.... and he succeeded. Duh, the survivors haven't aged!:P

Also, I really hope Caius is still the main antagonist. He was awesome and I refuse to consider him a villain, because he was just trying to save someone he loved from dieing in his arms, over, and over again.  Pretty sure anyone would go to extreme lengths to stop that happening to them if it had been re-occuring over a period of hundreds of years.

Not condoning his behavior or anything, just get where he's coming from, and that is the success of an antagonist.

This. Caius has to be in the game in some capacity. The whole premise of the game is his doing! He has to return, and hopefully it will be as the main antagonist.

And since he has no more heart of Etro, he's going to die one way or another. Though I'm pretty sure there's going to be a bigger bad guy besides him, like the incarnation of Chaos or something. I'm a little bit disappointed that there is only going to be one ending. I would like a bad ending, a normal one and a true path ending. I'm a bit of a sadist, but if you're going to make me play a game numerous times, give me different endings, Square Enix.

Despite their flaws, I enjoyed both Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, so I'm looking forward to Lightning Returns. I've been following the FF series since VI (as well as going back to play the older games), and strangely, Lightning is probably one of my favorite FF characters now.

I'm hoping that Lightning Returns incorporates an optional, more difficult mode. I mean, I enjoy the difficult boss/monster battles, but I would personally love to play the entire storyline with increased difficulty (as opposed to it feeling like a tutorial for the beginning of the story).

I feel like the multiple playthroughs thing is more about the way the game plays. Like with the doom clock. To play every single quest in one playthrough will likely be difficult, so you'd have to play multiple times to see everything. That's what I think it is mostly.

My only hope is that this game feels like a whole new game and not an expansion of Final Fantasy XIII-2, if you see what I mean. I also wonder how much it will cost... It's rare I purchase games that last around 10 hours or something over $60.

It'll be $60, all new ps3/xbox games are. Unless there is a special edition released with extra goodies, then that edition will be over $60.

The game will be longer than that. Each in game day is between 1 and 2 hours, and you can gain extra time through quests and what not. So it'll be between 20 and 30 hours to complete.

13 days, approximately 2 hours each. I calculated 26 hours for one run. But I really hope there are more ways to make longer playthrough because just one ending is like... Meh... I don't like the idea... I wonder if there will be an epilogue mode to see bonus stuff before we jump to New Game plus. Since it's the last game in the series, they'll probably going to do some side episodes too for the other characters. Can't wait to have more information.
