I have to say that Lightning is my obvious favorite, followed by Snow, Hope, Sazh, Vanille, and Fang.
Then Leon (I prefer to call him Leon, so please don't correct me) and Cloud in Kingdom Hearts were neat.

Well, I've played FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, FFXIII: Revenant Wings, FFXIII and FFXIII-2. And I can confidently say that my top ten would be (using full spoilerific names):
1. Claire "Lightning" Farron (FFXIII and FFXIII-2)
2. Tidus (FFX and FFX-2)
3. Rikku (FFX and FFX-2)
4. Lulu (FFX and FFX-2)
5. Ashelia B'Nargin Dalmasca (FFXII and FFXII: Revenant Wings)
6. Oerba Dia Vanille (FFXIII and FFXIII-2)
7. Sarah Farron (FFXIII and FFXIII-2)
8. Snow Villiers (FFXIII and FFXIII-2)
9. Yuna (FFX and FFX-2)
10. Auron (FFX and FFX-2)

Cidolfus Demen Bunansa

If you are so set on running, hadn't you best be off, fool of a pirate?
****ing had me in tears, that scene. It always makes me cry.
Auron

Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

I could not protect my own country. What is shame to me?

I'm only here to see how the story unfolds. Any self-respecting leading man would do the same.

I am simply myself, no more and no less. And I want only to be free.

I can't hear the hymn so well anymore...

You have angered Kimahri! The spirits of the Ronso will guide Kimahri's spear!

No matter how dark the night, morning always comes. And our journey begins anew. -- Lulu

No. No brother, I will not. Though I lack your power, I will still persist.

We had no choice but to strip the Senate of its powers and assign autocracy to myself, until such time as...
My hands are stained with blood. I see little reason to stay them now.

I am Judge Magister... even in disgrace. My just reward for aiding the empire that destroyed my homeland.
You confound me brother! You failed Landis! You failed Dalmasca! Yet you still hold onto your honor! How?!
Silence! All was stripped from me! Only hatred for the brother who fled our homeland remains mine!

Don't you even! You think you die, and that's that?! Huh?! You think you die an' everything'll be sugar and rainbows?!

Don't even need to put a quote for him. Someone did it already.

When someone's dead, when someone's gone, words are useless!

Maybe Cocoon is past saving, but it's our home. And we'll protect it or die trying! We live to make the impossible possible! That is our Focus!

This is Judge Magister Zargabaath, captain of the Alexander, flagship of the 12th Dalmascan Fleet of the Archadian army! I address all ships in Rabanastre's airspace: The Bahamut must not be allowed to fall on the city of Rabanastre! We are preparing to ram her! Do not interfere! -- Judge Magister Zargabaath, voiced by none other then Simon Templeman himself.
Some more of my favorites are , Vanille, Fang, Tidus, Cid Highwind, Cid Raines from FFXIII, Cid from FFX, Judge Drace, SuperPope... er.... Galenth Dysley I mean, and others.
Really, I just love how Final Fantasy creates its characters. They seem like real people in terms of their characterization.

Edgar Roni Figaro - A king/engineer who wields a chainsaw and hits on twelve year olds. What's not awesome about that? ....

Setzer Gabbiani - A thrill seeking, womanizing, gambling addict.

I find most characters post-VI to be pretty annoying really.

FFII. Again if you count Dissidia, Firion and The Emperor are fine.
FFIII. Once more with Dissidia... Onion Knight and Cloud of Darkness are dure something...
FFIV. Cecil, Rydia, Edge, Cid, Tellah and the Spoony Bard. Also the four Elemental Lords because of a fansong.
FFV. The main cast, Gilgamesh and Exdeath
FFVI. The main cast and Kefka
FFVII. Cloud before SE made him into a stupid character after the original game. Tifa, Cid, Barret and all of the main cast are fine too. But I will say Red XIII is my favorite FFVII character.
I just want to say that after you get your first mandatory chocobo and get across the marsh that, the scene where you see the Midgar Zolom impaled on a tree is VERY EXCELLENT as a setup to Sephiroth, the villain, whether or not anyone feels the payoff is worth it. It's one of the best minor scenes any villain in a JRPG is given to show their threatening nature, particularly because it's so casual and throwaway.
It works with that flashback in Kalm to really show him as a monster of power.
And the context of the Zolom demonstrates his incredible strength above the heroes at this point in the story, that he so easily destroyed something they had to run from. The fact that it's impaled on a tree is some hilarious overkill, but interesting enough that it also serves as a good image.
Sephiroth had several moments building him up as a presence before this scene and it's a great cement.
FFVIII. Zell, Quistis and Laguna.
FFIX. EVERYONE
FFX. Auron is the best character. Tidus is an okay chaaracter, he gets more hate than he should because of the dub. Lulu and Rikku are fine. I can't hate Wakka because of his voice actor. Seymour is stupid but he has a cool battle theme.
FFX-2. Yuna and Rikku I guess.
FFXI. Shantotto and Prishe are my homies.
FFXII. Basch, Balthier, Ashe, Fran and Dr. Cid. Vaan at least became a "character" in the spin-offs, but in the main game? lol
FFXIII. Lighting, Fang and Sazh. But because they are from FFXIII I am never going to put them as my favorite FF characters. It's kind of sad they had to be in such a crappy game.
Also I don't really hate Hope like some do. I mean he wanted to kill Snow, that makes the kid somewhat okay in my book.
FFXIII-2. lol
FFXIV. Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 is best

FFI- Doesn't really apply unless you count Warrior of Light.
FFII- Didn't really play it properly, but on Dissidia's 012 Firion's okay I guess.
FFIII- See FFI. For the DS version though, Luneth and Ingus I guess, though they all have only the barest elements of a personality.
FFIV- Cecil, Kain, Rydia and probably Edge. Same for The After Years.
FFV- The whole playable cast is pretty likable. And GILGAMESH.
FFVI- Terra, Celes, Setzer and of course Keflka.
FFVII- Cloud, Vincent, Tifa and Cid.
FFVIII- Squall (audible gasps) Laguna, (he should've joined your party after meeting him in Esthar tbh) Zell.
FFIX- The whole damn cast is great, even during their low points.
FFX- Tidus, Yuna, Auron, Rikku.
FFX-2- Yuna and Rikku. Paine's alright, just, ehhh.
FFXI- Didn't play. Liked Prishe and Shantotto in Dissidia though.
FFXII- Ashe, Basch, Balthier. The rest, meh. Though Vaan is my battle leader.
FFXIII- Lightning (duh) Fang and Hope. Actually I like the whole cast except probably Vanille and Snow. (in the case of Snow, not anymore)
FFXIII-2- Between Serah and Noel, Noel. Caius is a great villain though, and he's one of the few antagonists in the series to succeed in his plans.
