Why do all the new builders these days take like 2 days to respond to any help responses?

Did it work?

Are you still trying?

Have you made any progress on your idea?

I just wish I knew if someone's suggestion helped or not. . .

I mean there are only 2 days in a weekend and lets face it - NWN2 is more fun than getting poopoo-faced.

At least they reply unlike a lot of the lost souls I've helped out in my modules but yes I've noticed that too and just think it's rude but that's the world we live in where once courtesy and thanks were normal, now they're just a nice surprise.

And for the record I like modding and getting poopoo faced at the same time it makes doing corrections later more amusing !

I find the two mutually exclusive.

People are generaly better at responding here than on the vault as Tsongo says. Youd do something for someone there and it's in the ether :(

Lots of hard work for no recognition ... just like the day job really.

I dunno, some people like to respond, "Thanks, I'll try that!" and some like to wait until they have tried it to report back. These forums aren't an IRC channel, so I can see why some might prefer the latter. And then sometimes it takes a while to actually try it because you crack open the toolset and the whole thing goes up in flames! :pinched:

I find the toolset is much easier to endure if you make a drinking game of it. Every time it crashes, you take a drink.

I'm currently on my third transplant liver...

Hi Morbane,

Yes, I have noticed that a couple of times myself. It's extremely frustrating. Maybe it's a sign of the times?

Lance.

Maybe the young 'uns are treating this like Yahoo answers or the like, ask the internet to do your homework for you, check back in 10 minutes to see if anyone's posted an answer, then forget about it an do something else.

Ya - I check to see if there have been any responses but if the answer makes sense or is working, I try to post the results in the hopes the resolution is helpful to others.

Im in the southern hemisphere and sometimes my responses are off but I always try to express my appreciation for the efforts of others - hopefully in about the same time it took to get the response in the first place - but there are several threads where there were several ideas to solve some problem and the op never even responded but instead just posted another question... whats up with that?

Sorry, I guess I'm part of this "new ones". I guess some of us, don't just get to try the said solutions immediately. With so much in mind trying to learn this in that, with so much limited time, with so much less talent than the experienced people here...we get easily side-tracked to other work that can be done easier. But they're not forgotten, nor ignored. In fact, we're thankful for having such a nice community. Don't think like that, rest assured, we're sincere when we say thank you.

Yes - you're the one!  Everyone, Get em!  Kill em!  Smash em!

Well seriously though, back in the day of the olde forums when most of the builders were just learning - most of them, now experienced, were asking their questions - there was this flow - kind of a rhythm that really was building this community into what it is now. Granted there were a lot more of us builders then as many have retired since - we all participated in finding the solutions, noobs and pros alike - but we didnt waste time avoiding them to do easier things - we bashed our brains because we wanted to see our efforts pay off by finding those 'hidden' solutions to things even the developers didnt think of....

I just dont understand if someone is looking for a solution to a problem, hard enough to ask the help of people that have never met before, why not see it through and participate in the community? Why  ask - then "get distracted"?
Ok so not everyone has a timeline - but dude - every problem that gets solved makes everyone's (potentially) project better.

Lets build! Play! Create! NOW!!!!  :o

Illustair.. You are right it certainly is a good community I wouldn't have bothered making mods if it wasn't for all the help, advice and people taking their time up explaining things and trying different solutions even when the whole thing was my fault and I hadn't done properly what I had been advised to do in the first place ( I still do that too).

There are a lot of "idiots" on the internet, forums plagued by trolls and argumentative people and we're lucky they're not here and that is one of the biggest reasons I'm still making mods. But to keep that going communication is needed even if it's just a "I'll try it later I'm a bit busy making my tavern" reply to a question just to let people know. I've become intrigued by a problem in the past, really wanted to know the answer and probably visited the topic more often than the OP so it's always nice to know what's happening even if you are busy it's also to let others know too.

Hehe - there is another thing I've noticed - I did it too - everyone that is stretching the boundaries - which granted is almost everyone - when a question comes up that is plot based, the op tries to ask for help without revealing the plot.

But honestly - most modules take months - if not years - by the time the mod is released, everyone that put in their two cents, doesnt remember enough to really pose a spoiler risk on some plot or idea from the first few steps of developing an awesome module that surfaced a year ago?

What I'm trying to say is just get it out there if you have to, because the solution can be tailored and customised by someone but realistically, their own project erases memory just as fast as using the appearance editor for more than one npc - your secret is safe and your idea is better than ever.

Why ask then get "distracted" you say? Not everyone I guess can keep up and learn scripting as fast as others. Like when someone helps and says you use this and that function; I think it's more rude to ask back more on how do we use that function, when we should have had done researching that ourselves...we're pointed on the right track, and we want to ask more of details that may no longer be relevant to our thread? I'd want to, but as much as possible I don't. Not everyone will go on admitting "hey I didn't understand that" also. So I guess some people would leave them aside for a little bit longer, to study more about them - but I don't have so much time in my hands. That's why I'm very thankful to those who can give time to answer questions to people they don't even know. So as much as I can I just leave a thankful remark.

I might be leaving some of my questions that were answered hanging; but believe me, I'll check on them later on. I admire those that you say are so determined, who put so much time, and didn't avoid the easier things. When the time comes that I can afford to give more time to it, I'd do that also. For now, I can't. One of these days, I would. In case you wonder why I'm here - checking on forums is easier for me, without much thinking, it would only take a few minutes of my time. Researching, studying, scripting, testing, on the other hand, might take me hours over hours. I sometimes wouldn't know what to respond back because of my limited knowledge of scripting, so I leave it at that at times - thinking maybe a "thanks" or "i'll try that" would suffice, and courteous enough to acknowledge responses. So there's hardly a "flow of conversation". But if time permits, I'll try them, and maybe by that time newbies like me are more well-equipped and we can talk about them all day long. You see, it's all just a matter of TIME for us - a time to check on responses, a time to chew up and understand, a time to test. And 2 days isn't a long time to be honest, this is a forum not a chat after all. I hope my mediocre english is understandable.:))

Again, I apologize. Jeez, somehow I'm a bit hurt that I got someone else hurt or made uncomfortable. Weird I know. Just not used to it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it we all have lives to lead as well as mods to create but for the record Lilac Souls Script Generator helps a lot with scripts it's what I use.

Exactly. And thanks for the heads up, IFMP (hehe), I'll check that up when I can. But it seems to be for NWN-1; are NWN-2 libraries that common to one another?

Yes the NWN2 function list is virtually identical for the purposes of using Lilac Soul Script Generator. NWN2 has many more scripts and a few have went the way of the dinosaur, but it is an excellent tool without doubt.

btw - this thread is just for amusement it is not by any standard an actual complaint or the like - just a place to pass a few facetious comments around...
