So in DAO there was animate dead and ranger skills; in DA2 there was no summoning (except Mabari hound of course).

Does anyone think there should be more summoning in DA3; in my opinion one of the main things which turn the battle in D&D style games is presence of summoned allies on the map to either distract enemies or provide other support.

Animate dead would be awesome expecially if you could raise dead enemy and use the body to advance your gameplay. I.e. lure enemy/ies out by making the corpse to gesture them. In the "cinematic experience" bio so much talks about.

Necromancy spec rules.

I think summoning should be brought back and if you play as a blood Mage, you should be allowed to call for shades, desire demons etc.

I'd keep out the ranger stuff unless they come up with a much better lore explanation.

That would be interesting, especially with the danger of them turning on you.

Now if they can work that in somehow into the bloodmage consequences that would make the game or playthrough that much better biotic warlock. Or as a special sidequest story of the bloodmage class, Be cool if the Mage is influenced by a desire demon or pride demon the mage then has a choice to turn on the demon and defeat them.

Summonings remind me too much of FF. But whatever, it wouldn't effect me if they put it in, so whatever works for the rest of you. lol.

The summon spells in DA:O were nothing like summoning abilities in FF games.

As the poster above me said. Nothing like FF. In fact, they should be a little more like FF. At least FFX if they make it a part of the gameplay. It doesn't have to be as centered to it.

I'd love to summon a pack of wolves :o

Well you could actually directly control them and set up tactics for them on the PC version.  The reason given for removing that in the console version was hardware limitations, If I'm remembering correctly.  In the same way they removed camera options, reduced textures, changed mob spawning and AI schemes ect. ect ect.... all that good stuff.  So maybe if DA3 is on next gen consoles, with a completely new engine, we will get summons back.  Or maybe if they just better optimize the current engine.

But! summoning gets my vote, the game needs more class mechanics/flavor imo.

I never liked summoning in any rpgs. The whole concept seems so stupid. You wave your hands, and some animals apear and help you. The animals gets no choice in the matter. And where are they being summoned from? i remember in the old Baldur games, you could even summon Hobgoblins. So picture someone actually playing a hobgoblin character. He is about to finish a quest, and suddenly he is someplace else. A wizard has summoned him to be cannonfodder vs a dragon, hehe. Also if one can summon a living breathing creature, how come one can`t summon a healing potion. seems alot less complex to do that. You might even know exactly wher the healing potion is located too.

That's why summoning needs good lore explanation.  Summoning undead, actually tearing the veil and summoning spirits to possess nearby corpses, actually makes sense in Dragon Age.  The ranger specialization on the other hand...

Exactly. Summoning animals at the top of Fort Drakon to fight the archdemon was offputting.
