I ask this because I frequently read something like:

"Destroy is the only viable end because it was the main goal to destroy the Reapers from the start."

But for me the main goal of the series was never to destroy the Reapers, but to save the galaxy and my loved ones.

Am I alone with this?

When I say goal I of course mean the goal of your/my shepard.

To find out more about the reapers (completely serious here) and save the galaxy. Destroying them just seemed like the most obvious method at first but not anymore.

Main goal was to unite the races in a ethical and just community. Coulda been the Star Trek of our generation, until that damn ending. This was not Halo, destroying the Reapers was just a nessisary action of survival, but was minor in the grand scheme of the game.

At least, that's what it was to my Shepard after becoming a Spectre. Basically, the duty of every Spectre.

Moreover, not everything I do is Reaper-related, so...

To Destroy the Reapers, not out of a personal vendetta or retribution, but so that all of their harvested victims can finally be released from the torture they've endured for so long.

As well as marrying Tali and becoming hetero life mates with Garrus.

My Shepard main goal - Destroy the reapers
My goal - To enjoy the game by knowing more about the universe, be amazed about different races, to see the possibility of "what if we found life in galaxy". What mass effec shows is quite believable and even if Shepard ending was bad, my own goal as a player was achieved. I finished a looong trillogy and got to know the universe...there is still DLC and I hope there will be more

It depends, are you asking about Shepard's goal, or my goal?

Shepard's goal is to save the galaxy. To provide for the continuation of galactic civilization as it exists now.

My goal is to win. To me, winning means getting a happy ending - my character alive, my squad alive, the galaxy saved, and blue babies with Liara.
