When has Eugenics ever gone awry?  <_<  Good intentions and all that... despite the many roads paved to hell with those "good" intentions.

I think Mordin put it best when he said trying to save the galaxy is to big, he needed a more personal goal to bring it down to level he could fight for, My Shepard was fighting to save his friends and crew.

It depends on the person on what he's willing to sacrifice for peace, another thing borrowed from Deus Ex. The simplest way to put it:
Lives? Destroy
Freedom? Control
Individuality? Synthesis.

You can't simply say that an ending is evil, it's what makes them good imo. They are first truly gray choices in ME and people just weren't ready for that, there's no simple way out.

Still, at least you can survive in destroy and they didn't copy technological Dark-age from Deus Ex. Makes this ending the best imo. The consequences are most acceptable from my POV.

None of the endings were evil. They were just stupid. Poorly written, and executed with a Deus Ex Machina macguffin device.

It seriously wouldn't have been that hard to write a good Mass Effect 3. Use earlier plot details, don't make stupid plot decisions.

I ask this because I frequently read something like:

"Destroy is the only viable end because it was the main goal to destroy the Reapers from the start."

But for me the main goal of the series was never to destroy the Reapers, but to save the galaxy and my loved ones.

Am I alone with this?

When I say goal I of course mean the goal of your/my shepard.

No, you're not.

My main goal definitely was not to become The Illusive Man V2.0 by taking control over the reapers.

My main goal also was not to throw the freshly brokered peace between the Quarians and the Geth into the trash by killing all the Geth.

My main goal also was not to take away any choice from any sentient being in the Galaxy by making them Organic/Synthetic Hybrids. And force the Family father whose complete family just go liquified by a Reaper to live next door to Mr. Husk and Mrs. Marauder

My main goal was not to negate the huge effort made by the Galaxy by building the crucible and just commit suicide and let the cycle continue.

I wouldn't have had a problem sacrificing Shepard for a higher goal. But not for this...

That... summed up the endings pretty well actually.  I still chose Destroy.  Synthetics are self aware and sentient but I'm still not overly convinced I consider them "alive".  I went out of my way to help the Geth, to bring peace between the Geth and Quarians and encouraged EDI to persue her individualality but when it came down to them and saving the rest of the galaxy I went ahead and shot the tube... and walked into the explosion for some reason.

As I've ranted before, I'm pretty sure the death of the Geth and EDI from that choice is forced just to make Synthesis more "preferred".

Actually my Shepard's goal was to stop Saren. Everything after that he just kinda phoned in.

"Shepard, happy to see you, have found cure to genophage based on Maelon's data, ready to proceed with cure?"

"Huh? Oh, uh, yeah sure whatever. Just don't get yourself killed or whatever."

To get as many allies possible, in order to have an army that would not just defeat the reapers, they'd trample upon them. More specifically, what Kratos does to Zeus in the end of God of War 3.

It may be sadistic, but Reapers have gotten under my skin enough to bring this on them.

How come nobody says: "To obtain Reaper's power by... well, somehow synthesysing with them and learn more about their origin"? Sarcasm, obviously

As i progressed through ME3 my goals changed from choosing an idealistic ending to just keeping my favourite characters and races alive.

Edit; since playing leviathan i believe my second goal is now also pointless because of future implications.

The goal of my Shepards was to get rid of the Reaper threat, once and for all. Destroy does this.

1) Letting the Quarians have Rannoch back, without destroying the Geth(Even if I was certain that it couldn't be possible!)
2)Playing a Tali DLC,like the Shadow Broker DLC in ME2...however,I don't think there will ever be a DLC focused on Tali because she can die 3 times!(1 in ME2;2 in ME3)
3)Seeing Tali's face
4)Curing Thane :(
5)Making Garrus finish with those calibrations!!!!! (he talked to my Shepard only 2 times!)

This.

I'd guess that less than 5% of players pre-ME3 release would have freely responded "oh, synthesize organic and synthetic life...DUH" or "actually, i've been thinking about it and i think that controlling the reapers would be quite nice" or "i'm hoping to be presented with an absurd series of choices- at which point, I have every intention of refusing all of them" or "all i want is reaper storytime, where I get to figure out where exactly they reside in dark space and who their daddy is."

Personally, I wanted to destroy the reapers, save my friends/squadmates/LI, and watch all my decisions play out in a glorious save-the-galaxy scene with the added icing on the cake of maybe a rebuilding-the-galaxy DLC as a way to give players even more closure to the universe.

But DANG the ending I got was so...not that.

(apologies for the quasi-hostile tone, just sayin')

It's not you who should have to apologize.  Those who created that disaster of a ending to what was (and still is for the most part) a excellent trilogy are the ones who should be apologizing and fixing them (and no, for those of you who are going to suggest such, EC did NOT fix the ending(s), it simply explained a few things a little better and still had Star Brat from which point the game takes a nose dive into a septic tank).
