Some organic animated transitions maybe?

*click on interaction node*
*black screen*
*little movie plays out*
It'd be nice to have some times where it skips the black screen part and just runs some kind of animation. For instance, in DA:O in the werewolf area, there's a part where you swim through some water to get to another part of the temple. Well, I say you swim through it, in reality what happens is you click on a square patch of water, the screen goes black, and you teleport to another room.
How much more engaging would it be if, when you clicked, your character did a short little run and dive animation?
Little stuff like this salted through the game would be a lot of fun, I think. Plus it'd give your animators something somewhat independent they can do that doesn't involve, say, dialog or combat systems.

And end of the day there's nothing wrong with how it currently works.

And I can just hear the complaints now: "Even more cinematics than last time, baaaw! My Inquistor would do a cannonball, not a swan dive! I should be able to decide my character's swimming style! Immersion ruined! Etc!"

I like stuff like that a lot, but for me it's more like a bonus than a necessity.

Nothing could be worse than that. It's ok once, but after 50th time it's annoying like hell. Like minut-long combat animations from Final Fantasy - at first you are impressed but later you just "Oh come on! Finish already!". Or opening doors from Resident Evil.
There aren't that many times in either of the games when it'd really be appropriate, and, personally, I'd think of it more in the 2-3 second range
That, and I prefer a 2-3 second animation to a 4-5 second black screen load.
Although, in terms of amusement value they still have yet to top the "kobolds jumping into the pot" one from Shadows of Undrentide.

Normally this would be an example of gross exaggeration; not on BSN ladies and gentlemen. XD
This is one of those things that would be nice to have but I don't think is necessary, or even missable.

ME elevators.
IIRC those were really only a problem on consoles. I remember playing ME and thinking, huh, these elevators are kind of cool, and they don't last all that long . . . and then I heard all the ****ing about it and realized that this was more because my computer is a lot faster than most consoles.

The longest "transition" is loading a saved game. Transitions between locations are almost instant. And we alreay have animations for loading progress. So unless you expect map transition to be 15-20 seconds long then your idea is pointless and harmful.PsychoBlonde wrote...
