First of all, Merry Christmahanakwanzaaka to all (or Happy Holidays, however you prefer). :whistle:

 I have searched the forums but had no luck. I am looking for a safe, reasonable solution to my problems: severe, random Graphical errors, random CTD's, and more (I have seen some solution suggesting core restriction for multi-core CPUs, but those who this solution was recommended to did not have the same symptoms as mine, and I'm not fond of the idea of limiting the game to a single core when it seems to hog up all of two). The errors appear to happen randomly - though I have considered a correlation with time spent playing, they sometimes happen as early as five to ten minutes into the game.

 I have been experiencing random graphic deteriorations:  characters and their clothing/armor begin to look glossy or milky in cutscenes, flickering back-and-forth when I am moving. I also notice incredibly low-res, low-detail environment objects (especially carts and the like) - but I'm not sure if this is a problem or just how they were made, while I am playing on Very High visual settings, AA usually between two and four times (8x does not agree with the game AT ALL upon reaching Ostagar). I have tried lowering the graphic settings and seen no improvement in performance or the experienced problem with flickering textures/meshes.

 Textures/meshes begin to look painted or plastered on - some fail to load at all, leaving the character in armor that looks bright purple and white with some details poorly apparent against the blank background. The Ogres have none of the splendor and detail displayed in gameplay videos, but this is also after an extended playtime - their backs look roughly stitched with different texture pieces.

 The blood pools that follow the death of a Darkspawn begin to become bright scarlet blocks on the ground that flicker.

 I also experienced one peculiar glitch that caused characters' beards (especially Duncan's) to become extremely low-res, looking like confetti loosely taped to their faces. 

 I have attempted to take screenshots illustrating the problems, but the game does not appear to agree with me on that aspect, either (automatic story screenshots still appear - though they are greyed out completely around the same time I begin experiencing graphic problems; sometimes the screenshot accompanying a savegame does not appear at all when at the loading screen).

 Problems seem to be better if I close the application and begin playing anew - then reoccur after some time spent playing, anywhere from five to thirty minutes to an hour.

 Also, one particular CTD issue seems to be a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error:

    "R6025
           -Pure virtual function call"

 ANY attempt to tamper with graphic settings in the in-game options menu after errors begin to become apparent results in an instant CTD upon exiting the options menu.

 I have also taken DXDiag information from my computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I enjoy Bioware's games, from KotOR to Mass Effect, and now Dragon Age. It is lamentable that DA is the first game I've experienced such problems with on computer (apart from Bethsoft's "Fallout", which is notoriously crash-prone). I hope I can get DA to operate efficiently so that I can enjoy another great RPG from a great company - I hope the EA partnership has turned out favorably. :whistle:

A problem i have is that the screen flashes in bright and scarlet red, blue and turning totally yellow.

The whole game never crashes though, its just extremely annoying :(

Semi-bump, and also an update - I'm experiencing a new bug or two.

After leaving Lothering to go out into the fields north, I noticed random crashes - again - whenever I began to fight the bandits OR refugees. However, I noticed that the crashes occured when Morrigan used her lightning spell.

I removed Morrigan from the party and began playing, and there were no crashes when facing the two groups. I did crash after accessing my options menu again back in town. On the next playthrough I instantly crashed when one of my characters leveled up fighting the wolves outside of town.

If anyone could help with these issues I would really appreciate it. Not being able to play my game for more than ten or twenty minutes at a time anymore is becoming incredibly annoying.

 I also broke down and tried the deal with relocating the game entirely to one core of my CPU to alleviate the problems. It did not work, at all - in fact, I crashed almost as soon as I began playing again.

I have this issue too, my computer also crashed once but it rebooted

Some of the graphical issues you post I have as well, I re-formated my PC today and updated everything and suddenly I'm getting random CTD's, blocky blood and poor performance.



Sometimes I've managed to temp "fix" graphical errors by changing my graphics card settings -not- DA:O's .. however I suspect it might be Nvidia's new drivers that're doing it although I'm not that technically minded to test it.



Pre-Format I had zero problems but I was running on Nvidia's Forceware 192 but their 195 that i've just had today is my Number 1 suspect at the moment for it. I also noticed you were running an 8800 GT, same as me.



Hope It might help alittle =/ and theres a fix soon!

I got a problem, at random times of the game the screen start flickering and the world becomes all wierd. anyone know the solution of the problem? oh, and i can temorarily fix it when i check and uncheck the "vertical sync"

It might be your vidcard driver, although I can't imagine Nvidia screwing up so bad that it could cause all of the problems your having. Maybe your hardware is damaged?



Say, if a certain part of your videocard isn't working as it's supposed to, wether you damaged it or not DA could give all kinds of oddities when Morrigan is using a spell that requires a certian shader to be displayed. (try setting graphics to low see if it goes longer without crashing)



You might also wanna try going to windows device manager or something similar. I'm not sure what it's called in english (it's on every windows pc). But that section shows what devices are detected and wether they are functioning properly or not.



If that says everyting is alright, while it is obviously not you could try completely reïnstalling your PC, with vista that doesn't even take that long.

Í'm no expert at all this, but I know how annoying it is when you want to play a cool game when you can't play it the way you want to.

If new drivers don't affect that symptom, the card may be failing on you.

Well, the crashes stopped after removing Morrigan - and I refrained from using her afterword, but now I've been able to play through Redcliffe and most of the Mages' tower without much trouble. I wonder if there was a problem with the area.



The nVidia drivers are a possibility. My own computer has no internet connection at the moment, so there's no way I could update them - or do anything to revert to a previous driver set (though I do recall seeing something about severe nVidia problems upon patching when last I looked).



The only hardware trouble I've had at all with my computer is a busted hard drive - other than that, it's even handled games such as Crysis with close to zero difficulty.



I suppose the OT posts were good to keep the thread alive, at least.



Regardless, thanks for what possibilities you have given. I guess I'm on my own as far as these random glitches go.

I also am running an 8800GT, 3 people having issues with it, maybe it is the driver or hardware limitations or something, something to look into? (I also have similar problems)

i am pretty sure that this is a driver problem. in many threads people say that if they use an older driver like the one of the 180 versions and not one of the 190, then they don`t have bugs anymore.
