Hi Guys, I was hoping that someone could please help me with this issue.

After about a year, I decided to play DA2 again to try out the latest DLCs. Unfortunately when I load one of my saved games, the following occurs:

The game then crashes to the desktop about 10 seconds later.

The problem only occurs with DX11 rendering on High graphics. If I go down to Medium, the graphic corruption would be gone and the game will be stable.

I have tried lowering all other settings such as lower resolutions, turning off Vsync and High resTexture pack, no AA, etc. The only factor that triggers it is if I putthe Graphics on 'High'.

Here are the settnings that I was using on the screeshot above:

At the time the game was running on v1.03. Due to this issue, I decided to upgrade to the latest version 1.04 but the issue continued.

Now, I know that I used to play this game on High with the same graphics card so I guess this could be due to the Nvida graphics drivers which have been updated to the latest since I played the game. I hope there is a solution other than downgrading drivers as I can't justify it for one game and it would be a shame to play it on Medium when I know I used to play it on High.

Here are my specs for your reference:

Dragon Age 2 Game version: 1.04
OS: Windows 7
RAM: 16GB
CPU: Core I7 2600k 3.4Ghz
DirectX 11
Graphics: Nvidia 9800GTX (DX10 card)
Drivers version: 301.42

Any help would be appreciated.

Your driver is simply far too new for such a comparatively "old" GPU. nVIDIA is very bad about forgetting any card more than a couple of years old, and games that aren't the very newest, when they put out a new driver.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case here. I decided to downgrade to driver version 270.61 and the game started to work excellently again.  Even the shadows which were  a bit distorted in the latest driver version begun to look smooth again.

Anyways, thanks for your response :)

I probably shouldn't expect this to be fixed up as it is an old card. A shame since it stil functions beautifully in all the other games on high graphics. I have not really had  a practical need to upgrade it but I guess that should be on the agenda.

nVIDIA is no longer the end-user-conscious company it used to be, however, not all new drivers are equally faulty for older games and older GPUs. It might not have been needed to roll back quite so far as the 270.61 set.

Yeah I know, I just wanted to go back to something I knew once worked as a control to confirm if that was indeed the issue. Now that I know that's the root of the problem, I will try newer driver versions until I get one that isn't too old but works.
